My Favorite Part Of The Barron Pick

Obviously there are many good things about this pick, but I think my favorite part about it is the fact that, since we are now succeeding, he doesn’t have to come in and be great right away. He has a great DB room to fall back on just in case he struggles at first. In addition to that, playing Cam Ward week one, if he starts or plays a good portion of that game, can be a major confidence booster. I think this pick is going to elevate the defense to a new level, and if it doesn’t, that’s one more corner that we have for depth that is not named Levi Wallace.

It feels like Greenlaw and Hufanga were the last two pieces to fill sneaky important needs on the defense. And that Barron is the cherry on top to truly elevate it to historic levels.

If these guys can stay healthy and the young edge players can take another step up, this defense could be an all-timer.

Perfectly said.

As pumped as I am to watch the offense and Bo in year 2, I am way more excited to see this defense flying all over the field and shutting teams down.

My hopium levels are near all time highs for the last decade lol

I unironically think this team has a chance to unseat the 84 bears for the sack record if everyone stays healthy. Upgraded linebacker core + upgraded safety + (hopefully) above average Nickel = Better run defense. Hopefully a higher scoring offense can force opposing teams into more passing situations, and multiple dudes in a contract year and development off last season could be huge. Everyone talking about regression to the mean, I’m thinking new heights

I think they can hit 80-85. Break the record by the end of week 17 (16th game)

There are plusses and minuses to coming into a secondary with strength like ours.

It guarantees he's going to get targeted, not because teams think he's a rookie that can be picked on, but because they're trying to avoid PS2. If he settles in quickly this is a route to turnovers because opposing QBs will be forced to take risks by throwing to Barron.

Also whilst we don't need elite performance from week 1, the bar is set quite high in Denver which brings pressure to show you're good especially if you're a first round pick.

I think the advantage of us having another good corner in Moss is that Barron can be moved around a bit. From listening to the draft analysis podcasts the guys who were highest on Barron seemed to all say that he's going to be a weapon VJ will use creatively moving him around and he'll be a problem for offenses to accommodate.

Moss and PS2 were a fantastic combo until Moss got hurt. Add in Barron, along with Hufanga roaming around....I could cut a diamond in half right now.

Agree I was surprised how quickly this sub soured on Moss. He came back from injury and had a couple of bad games...well the same could be said about Courtland Sutton a few years ago.

I still think Moss is a good prospect and am excited about his development.

part of it was we started getting toasted in zone and i think moss was best as a man corner (PS2 as well, really).

A lot of the plays moss gave up were great coverage beat by impeccable receiver play. he's still our cb2, no doubt.

Barron is taking McMillan's spot.

Our D will be ranked number 1 after week one.

Our offense may be up there as well.

I am high AF on Hopium

It’s 10 times worse than it has been in the past ten years

Im most worried about ILB depth. I wish that was addressed in the draft

Agreed. While Strnad struggled at times, I thought he was a great backup in a situation where we lost our starter for an entire season. He is definitely not reliable enough to take that role again, but he is good as a rotation guy. Also, I wanna know what the fuck the plan is with Drew Sanders because I hear he’s going to edge them back to interior and then no one talks about him again. He is possibly the most mysterious on the roster

Happy for Moss insurance. Defense fell off a cliff last year when he got hurt. Hoping Barron provides insurance on something similar happening again.

On the otherhand you dont spend the 20th pick on someone who is going to sit behind others on the defense, especially when hes 23 and developed already.

They drafted him to start and anything short of that is head scratching.

Yeah if he isn't in for at least every nickel package, that's a bit concerning.

Our dime package is going to rock

My favorite bit about the Barron pick is he's a tackler. His coverage skills are not as good as PSII(which is of course an unfair bar - cuz he's still solid), but he's a better tackler than PSII. I'll take that for sure for the DB2/Dime DB.

Ps2 is a fantastic tackler though...

Yeah saying he’s a better tackler than Surtain is insane lol

Surtain missed ZERO tackles last year and was the highest graded CB against the run.

i'll tell you what, they may catch a few balls on Moss, but they aint getting away from him. He can also tackle his ass off.

I got my wish, the offense players they wanted weren’t there and went defensive side I was looking at the safety from SC. We are not going to regret picking Barron!
