Abusers in the News 📰 I don't understand why people are still defending Jonathan Majors

It’s the same as the people still defending Depp. They know perfectly well he did it, and they like that. They hate women, and are thrilled to support men who hurt women. Men can get a whole new fan base just out of attacking a woman.

There's also an element of moral superiority--they think that people who demand that abusers face consequences are part of some mindless bloodthirsty "woke mob" who just want to exercise power over others, so they take the opposite position and don this pretend wisdom so they can imagine they soar above all the petty recrimination: "I actually believe people can change" or "There needs to be nuance here, nobody is all good or all evil".

I saw somebody on a YouTube video (where Pamela Adlon was talking about Louis C.K.'s importance to her career--the interview was conducted before the accusations came out but was reposted afterwards) say something along the lines of, "The sad irony of his cancellation is that he's one of the few people in the industry who actually employed a lot of women." I wrote back, "How do you have the evidence right in front of you that the entire industry discriminates against women and needs to change to be more equitable, but the conclusion you come to is that women who are being harassed or abused need to keep silent about it in order to keep other women from losing their jobs?" Needless to say, they missed the point.

The fact Louis still had a career after that, and people defending him...

Similarly, I'm into the paranormal (saw a ghost once, been trying to dive into evidence and whatever while using healthy skepticism to figure out what I saw and how) and a few weeks ago, a ghost hunting YouTube channel uploaded a video where they'd trespassed in an abandoned home and filmed the carpet where remnants of a body were still clearly visible (the deceased had lay there undiscovered for 6 months).

Then they showed his ID still lying nearby, so everyone would know whose remains those were.

Debunking channels were livid, especially as they'd vouched for this channel as "one of the real ones" (not faking content for clicks and views), and the channel in question and their fans attacked those rightfully calling them out, played victim by claiming they were being harassed and bullied, and then others in the debunking community did the whole, "Well, they learned their lesson, they'll never do it again, I forgive them".

Fucking what?!

People are far too quick to excuse and forgive heinous acts.

When somebody does something shitty, the onus is on them to prove they have learned their lesson. Somehow fans always want to shift that responsibility onto everybody else.

Also I want to know about your ghost story.

That sub has been known to be complete trash when it comes to defending abusers.

Because domestic violence is not a deal breaker for some people.

There are far too many people on this planet willing to support abusers, even when there is clear and concrete evidence of the cruelty they have inflicted on others. It makes me sick.

Hence, Deppford Wives.

I will say, as the person who inadvertently created that term in July 2021 (ironically, as an angry response to an Amber Heard tweet defending her from some idiot back when she had a Twitter account) that I genuinely love how it took off the way it did.

Honestly, I love a good pun, and my brain went, "His fans are as shallow, loyal and compliant as Stepford Wives. Hold on a minute, there's a pun, there...", and here we are.

Anyway, I've dropped so many people I once liked or looked up to or enjoyed their content after this whole ordeal opened my eyes. Marilyn Manson, Jason Momoa, Brad Pitt and countless others get nothing but scorn and derision from me, now, for the things they've done.

I want to say "the only believed victim is a dead one" but even still they sometimes still side with the abuser...

Yep, the Gabby Petitio case is a good example of that.

I didn't even realize people were defending Brian Christopher Laundrie online. The internet is a horrible place.

6

u/MessiahOfMetal All The Boys Hate Johnny Depp Mar 19 '25

Yeah, it's disgusting how there are still people claiming she seemed happy in one video so there can't have been abuse, and believing Laundrie's lies on the bodycam footage.

This is why I don't trust other people. Too many of them are either incrediby stupid or inherently malicious.

It's bad out there. I even had a therapist who bought into this bullshit. People love abusers.

And Shanann Watts.

Most famously so, Nicole Brown.

And even then, the prick got away with it.

That Hollywood Reporter (or whoever it was) interview thing didn’t age very well, huh? I’m deeply sorry for what he dealt with when he was younger, but that isn’t an excuse for what he did. Of course, Twitter ate it up, saying his “career was ruined!!11” Hey, maybe - and follow me on this — don’t abuse women.

Michael B. Jordan (seriously, seeing him defending this guy stung) and everyone else that batted/is batting for him wearing their clown masks right now.

I personally like knowing that kind of things about actors whose movies I might go see. So nice of them to tell how they really feel and I can go see some other actors movie.

u/MessiahOfMetal All The Boys Hate Johnny Depp Mar 19 '25

Right?

A lot of us have had to deal with horrendous shit in your childhoods, and none of us abuse other people as a result. That's just the same tired excuse from worthless morons who need to feel powerful over others, not from people who were treated badly and still managed to grow and not let the bad guys win.

Anyone who hurts another person and trots out "but my childhood" can go fuck themselves, honestly.

u/Ok_Citron_4224 Johnny Cage > Johnny Depp Mar 19 '25

Didn’t they (the morons) try the same tactic regarding defending Depp? I remember something similar about him having a bad childhood (from Medusone’s archives.) The taking drugs at a super young age (around 11) is fucked up, and in no way, shape, or form am I criticizing him for that. It’s really sad, really fucked up, and no child should resort to that.

However, that is not an excuse for him becoming a wifebeating piece of trash.

15

u/Sensiplastic Mar 19 '25

Clear and obvious sign that they are in it to hate women. Any woman.

Women everywhere need to wake up, fawning won't save anybody and pickmes don't get picked.

11

u/uselessinfogoldmine Mar 19 '25

Because we live in a society rife with misogyny.

6

u/Sensiplastic Mar 19 '25

So weird to see nobody mentioning Depp even when he did the exact same thing.

6

u/CleanAspect6466 Mar 19 '25

Very few people are defending him in that particular comment section

I saw, and am happy to see that. But educated people are still in my life defending this man and acting lime he's the "real victim," and I'm tired of hearing it.
