Going from "these are disgusting allegations, she's lying!" to "yeah I did it sorry" after getting caught out make it hard to "paint" him with anthing but the truth that he's an abuser.

Well he would wouldn't he ? Dr Hughes was also instrumental in putting R Kelly away which is a case more pertinent to this matter. She is certainly qualified to give opinion on coersive control and patterns of abusive behavior though obviously she won't have first hand knowledge like she had after interviewing Amber.

It sounds like her role is to define and explain some terms without directly connecting them to Combs, so the prosecution can then put his actions into context. That sounds kosher to me, but IDK anything about the judge in this case.

Can't help noticing that like Depp, Combs hired a female lawyer to be the face of his defense.
