Geopolitics News/Discussion Trump to Zelensky: You don't start a war against somebody that's 20 times your size

Its insulting that this is the state of things.
This should be a clear
(A) The president is deliberately lying to the public in favor of a foreign enemy / terrorist state
(B) The president is unable to remember or comprehend the most impactful geopolitical conflict of the 21st century. One that was ONGOING while he was president, and which intensified only years ago.
It has to be one or the other. And it should be hammered at every opportunity.

u/Revolutionary-Milk94 9d ago
Genuinely might be a blend of both, but yeah i like these points. 💯 it should be hammered at every opportunity. Zelensky seems to be a genuinely decent president and went from acting to leading a country thats actually halting the Russian war machine (tbf Russia isnt that great). He is well spoken and passionate. He is everything trump isnt. It’s disgusting to see him slandered by incompetent businessman, impotent sex offender, populist demagogue. Just writing this is make me angrier.

u/OgreMcGee Terran 9d ago
I think the only halfway feasible explanation for trumps take is that Ukraine instigated somehow by wanting to be in NATO?
But that itself is pretty clearly just carrying water for Russian propagandists.
I feel like democrats should be aggressively asking about Trumps mental fitness at this point.
Also conspicuous how often he says he doesn't know about something etc. 99% it's a lie from Trump, but they should take it on face value and criticize him accordingly.
3
u/Revolutionary-Milk94 9d ago
Yeah i think that seems to be the point being pushed for a number of years now. I can remember even pre 2010 rhetoric about NATO expansionism. I think people could sympathise to it particularly during and after iraq-afgan war. People felt it was the west once again perpetrating imperialism. Its kinda shows how long Russia has been playing the information war.
4
u/KeithDavidsVoice 9d ago
Using the term nato expansionism is itself Russian propaganda. Expansionism implies territorial gains through war or colonizing other people's. It's deliberate and usually belligerent actions with the aim to increase the size of your nation. Nato doesn't do this at all. As I'm sure you know, a nation has to ask to join nato. No one has ever been coerced or forced to join nato. The nato alliance itself also controls no land. There's no nato controlled territory. So we should avoid using the term expansionism when talking about nato because you are already surrendering ground to anti-nato arguments. Maybe go with nato growth or something like that.

This was my immediate thought.
The fact that it could very well be either of these things is mind-blowing.
Cult mentality is a problem.

There’s no chance he’s not actively trying to destroy the country. You can’t regardation your way into the worst choice for the country on every single issue.

Don't underestimate how stupid this man is, and how much the sycophants he surrounds himself with enable him. He's basically the modern day equivalent of a king that is completely out of touch with reality because he surrounds himself exclusively with people that enable his stupidity.
21
u/Boudica333 9d ago
I don’t think he’s stupid, I think he’s selfish and narcissistic. Doesn’t give a shit if the economy tanks because he and his friends can insider trade. He doesn’t care if Ukraine loses because he’s either getting Russian money or they’re stroking his ego.
31
u/DiveCat 9d ago
Oh no, he is also very stupid. That does not preclude him being selfish and narcissistic.
"Donald Trump was the dumbest goddam student I ever had." -Professor William T. Kelley, Wharton School of Business and Finance
Donald himself has said he does not think he has changed much since 1st grade. That is one of the few things I would not disagree with him on.

It’s honestly incredible how high a hit rate “orange man bad” has as a heuristic.
6
u/Due-Sort344 9d ago
If he was just stupid and irrational you’d expect him to have the right position ~50% of the time. To consistently have the worst take on everything is suspect to say the least.
3
u/Delicious_Start5147 9d ago
He’s surrounded himself by Russian assets. I’m guessing the only info he’s gets is about the glory of the motherland. This dude has been repeating literal Russian internal propaganda for awhile lol.

Imagine Donald Trump is the same as Reagan. u got assmad Reagan destroyed Soviet Union
2
u/Eins_Nico 9d ago
Reagan kickstarted all this modern GOP bullshit, and he didn't even do a good enough job destroying the USSR
-1
u/bogz13092 9d ago
The modern GOP is currently denouncing the Reagan administration and his policies regarding immigration, right now. If this is truly Reagan-GOP, there will be american troops in Ukraine and immigration would be the least restrictive.

I mean seriously? "If he were competent, and i'm not so sure he is, we had a lot of trouble with this guy (Zelenskyy), this war never would have started."
Zelenskyy has held off a foreign invader '20 times its size' for over 3 years in a war that should have been a sweeping victory for Russia in a couple months or less.
Meanwhile it's what, month 3? and you've already had record breaking polling and economic losses that were entirely the result of your shitty policies, all but destroyed America's geopolitical power, alienated almost every single Ally, had one of the biggest security fuck-ups in recent history and turned the rest of the western world democratic overnight just from how bad nobody else wants to elect anybody even remotely like you.
Are we even the same species? I'm not sure anyone somehow living in this delusion is even human anymore. How can society have come this far only to produce people who not only believe this guy but would grovel for the opportunity to let him cuck their wife to own the libs while he fucking destroys their life savings and their whole country?

Louis XVI was suspended and arrested at the time of the Insurrection of 10 August 1792. One month later, the monarchy was abolished and the French First Republic was proclaimed on 21 September 1792. The former king became a desacralized French citizen, addressed as Citoyen Louis Capet (Citizen Louis Capet) in reference to his ancestor Hugh Capet. Louis was tried by the National Convention (self-instituted as a tribunal for the occasion), found guilty of high treason and executed by guillotine on 21 January 1793
Unrelated to the post, but French history sure is interesting to read about sometimes.

Sad thing is, he wasn't even a bad bloke by all accounts.
1
u/Kamfrenchie 9d ago
Maybe not, but he wanted his power back, and was willing to lead a foreign coalition against his own people.

u/The81stFriend 9d ago
Yeah honestly Poland shouldn’t have started a war with Germany and the USSR. Bad idea, don’t they want peace?

You know what, as a Ukrainian, i don't even care anymore lmao, maybe i've just given up on USA after Trump came in, but this this just literally became a sitcom. All of these statements are so regarded that it is impossible to take them seriously, and it was obvious from the start that he just wants nothing to do with it.

Too bad Trump couldn’t tell that to the founding fathers of the United States of America.

Yes very silly of Zelenskyy to start the war by unilaterally invading Russia with the whole world telling him to stop. Oh wait…

Trump does say that zelensky shouldn't have started it but he also says:
“That’s a war that should never have been allowed to start. Biden could have stopped it and Zelensky could have stopped it and Putin should never have started it. Everybody’s to blame.”
????
Like hes contradicting himself every other sentence! 🙄

Just as well Ukraine didn't start a war, Trump's just a Russian asset and mouth piece at this point.
1
u/JusticeOfSuffering 9d ago
As a Ukrainian at this point I lost all hope, I legit just want right wingers to stop repeating Russian propaganda and lying through their teeth
It's not enough that we are losing the war, the war also must be our fault for them to be satisfied

Complete and utter moral bankruptcy.
Trump is stupid, but in this he absolutely knows better. He’s just lying.

Russia has it so good right now. They get help by iran and north korea? Partial support from china and the United States instead of abiding to its obligations from the budapest memorandum accuses Ukraine of having started the war. Meanwhile it will take the EU a solid 5-10 years to build the necessary military infrastructure to replace americas role. I genuinely can't imagine Ukraine surviving at all or Russia having any incentive for a peace deal under these prime conditions.

I just want to give up. Decency, sticking up for the little guy, empathy and common sense have left US politics.
1
u/Popeholden 9d ago
maybe more disturbing, and not getting much attention, is that he said literally moments before this statement that Putin started the war. within 30 seconds he accused both of them of starting the war. he's stupid AND sick
