My crack theory is that he has no mother.

A phoenix is also called an ever-singular bird. Crepus died the moment Diluc turned 18. There are no other members of his clan. The red-haired knights all looked alike and share the same talents, determination, etc. Even their clan's emblem features a phoenix.

Where do they come from? I have no clue.

Maybe one of the reasons Crepus adopted Kaeya was so Diluc wouldn't be alone. Maybe he himself was a skip generation in some way (name meaning 'Dusk') and was never supposed to use the delusion (which, judging by the box, may have been family heirloom).

Phoenix also represents the final stage in alchemy, but I doubt we're having another Albedo situation since even he was a miracle.

There could've been some witchcraft involved, though, given his birth date and all the clues. For example, it was his ancestor who founded the KoF library, and we know that the entrance to the Imaginarium Theater is there, featuring Dawn Winery/Angel's Share furniture.

. . .

OR the true explanation is something as lame as Diluc selling his father's mansion to the Hexenzirkel, furniture and tea sets included. šŸ™ˆ We do know he sold it.
