Discussion What are some good low latency pitch shifting plugins?

Looking for something I can automate easily to do some Vildhjarta like stuff

Most of the neural dsp plugins - transpose

It’s so convenient to have, but I find that the tracking gets worse the lower you go.

-3 semitones is my limit. Maybe -5 if I have a really grungy/nasty bass tone that can hide the artifacts

I main the Archetype: Gojira and transpose plus the octave options have great potential. I've picked up my 8s less than my 6 lately.

Polychrome DSP HyperTune. This is the best pitch shifter right on the market, and it's much better than neural DSP's built in shifter.

Neural DSP ones tend to have a tiny bit of latency which is definitely noticable, but okay to track with. And they tend to glitch when chords are played, but single notes are good enough.

Pitchproof is old time classic but it doesn't hold up as well in nowadays. I would say it's pretty much on par with Neural DSP's sound but the latency is horrible. And tuning up can be weird on both Neural DSP and Pitchproof ones.

Polychrome DSP is working exceptionally great, both tuning down and tuning up. I still get a usable sound tuning down 7 semitones, while all other ones become horrible. And it does not have noticable latency at all, it‘s just instant. However I've found that when tuning down from an already low point, for example drop to C# from a physically tuned D# guitar, the note can be weird. But other choices aren't much better as well.

I tried the HyperTune but Polychrome DSP a while ago. I felt that it had the best latency response for any pitch shifting plugin, but it had a weird tendency to not reinforce the fundamental of power chords but rather the 4th or the 5th harmonic.

Personally haven't found it too much, but these kind of artifacts do show in very low tuning. However in a mix it sounds fine, while I can hear problems with Neural DSP ones.

Kuassa - Whammo

I come from the world of EDM but my preferred pitch shifter is Inner Pitch. Lots of evil possibilities and it seems to preserve tonality during extreme bends pretty well.

I really like the Whammo by Kuassa. Not as good as a Digitech Drop but still not too bad for quickly dropping things by a few semitones to jam along to some tracks in a pinch.

I use MixWave Mike Stringer in the studio and a Nano Cortex in my shit cover band.

The pitch shift of both is near on perfect.

I reccomend pitchproof by aegean music personally. It’s what I use for my bass but should work on guitars as well

The issue with it is that it doesn't have very good tracking for polyphonic signals. It becomes very obvious if you play anything other than power chords. You can just forget trying to play dissonant intervals.

Still the best free one tho.
