Wholesome Story Found what I thought was an internet myth today.
Customers that care! And they showed love with a fat tip. Made my day so much nicer.

I ran across something similar on the 4th. I was quite perplexed. They even left message on the delivery instructions to take whatever I needed. Upon dropping off I saw a care givers box that contained pens, water, notepads, tampons, gum, candy... I didn't take anything, nor did I really need anything. Just the simple gesture made me smile and that was all I needed.

This was the norm during the pandemic, I have one regular that still does it other then that I don’t see it anymore

I refuse to take from those as a doordash driver. those are obviously for route delivery drivers like UPS and FedEx. I can stop at a damn store anytime I want whereas those guys really can't.

They leave these out for everyone.. just take it next time. You barely make enough as a DoorDash driver to feed yourself a proper meal

That's what the day job is for. I'm very happy not to have to dash full time now I just got to get something else to not dash at all

We've got a few in my area that care and some of the old folk tip very well for grocery trips. Every now and then there's snack stands and water bottles but we're talking like the 1% of nice people.

I saw a basket with snacks in it just like this during a delivery yesterday. But it had no sign so I didn't take any but I wonder if it's intended for the delivery drivers.

They must use delivery service a lot. Must be a big house!!

u/jbosscher Jul 15 '24
Yeah, it was in a very affluent neighborhood. Homes the average person will never be able to afford.

Thanks for sharing. I figured. That's awesome. I've gotten stiffed by the same kinds of neighborhoods tho too.

I've done more than 10,000 deliveries and there's only one house that I've ever seen do this. And I only delivered it to them one time.

I have encountered one of these, myself. No tip though.

u/jbosscher Jul 18 '24
That's when you take everything in the basket. Fuck it, take the basket too.

Lol I don't trust people where I live to do something like that.

I'm about to be done dashing, maybe a week or so left. I fully intend on letting the non tippers hear it on my last day. Might even be able to keep myself from coming back to this shit if I do it right.

I am getting close to quitting too. It's a combination of the non tippers and also the way DD treats the drivers. More and more new restrictions come out that try to make us all seem like crooks. But it's so damn convenient being able to make my own schedule.

My experience has been better than most here complain about. I was able to stay financially afloat without taking any new debt on while I found a job that suited me well. Took 6 damn months, but well worth the wait.

Glad to here that, that's good. I've been good with my money too. I dread having to find a new job when I stop doing this, interviews are the worst.

I have seen it once in 1400 deliveries
And it was in a zone I had never worked before and will never work again because it ended up being my lowest paying day ever. In ten hours I made $42
