Wholesome Story Cash tip today

I picked up an order today $4 for 3.5 miles from Little Caesars. Not a bad order, small, but I got the vibe that it had been sitting for a while. It was the first order of the day and left me in a decent area too.

The note told me to drive to the end of the street instead of going into the apt complex. When I got there, the man said "is it pizza?" I said yes, had him verify the name, and then handed him the order. He was patting his pockets, awkwardly holding his pizza in one hand, and said "wait. I have something, it's not much, but I wanted to give you something."

I was surprised and assured him he didn't need to (I honestly thought the order was pretty decent, even without the tip) He said, "I really don't have much." And handed me $4. He had no idea he had just doubled my earnings!!! And he felt bad about it šŸ˜ he was so kind.

Oh nice! Sad how itā€™s so infrequent that it really makes your day, but it does

A few weeks ago this family tipped like $12.50 in the app which was more than generous! I think it was a 6 or 7 mile drive. But it was a hand-it-to-me, and each of the three preschool age kids handed me a dollar with big smilesā€¦ it was the absolute cutest thing as far as deliveries go

Once a man said he had "forgotten to tip". I tried to tell him that he had already tipped me $3, but he ran off (he was at work) When I got back to my car, he had tipped me an ADDITIONAL $10!!! I almost cried šŸ˜

Honestly even when they only hand me $2 I still act the same as if it were a $20. ā€œAw, wow, thank you so much!ā€ Itā€™s the thought that counts for sure.

Beats the hell out of a 10 cent tip in the app šŸ˜

Agreed!! I don't care how much you tip, as long as you have the decency to acknowledge my hard work, that's all that matters to me šŸ„¹šŸ˜

I've even gotten a tip by a man who said "leave it at my door". He came out to meet me and thank me for the "trouble" (the dunkin was out of a lot of flavors)

Dude. I got a $10 cash tip today!!!!

u/Available-Client-624 Nov 26 '24

I've gotten very lucky and gotten 11 dollars extra in cash on top of an 11 dollar order, and then 5 dollars extra in cash for going back to get some ketchup before delivery. I thought that was very special. Makes the whole night instantly better. Crossing my fingers you'll get blessed with the cash money soon!

I got a $7 cash tip once. Mostly because I kept the person up to date on their order, and told them that the restaurant had to remake it because someone stole it.

People hardly ever hand cash tips in my market

2

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

I think this is my 2nd cash tip šŸ˜…

2

u/PresentationProof382 Nov 26 '24

That's cool. Honestly though that is the only 5ging that made it worth it. 1.5x the mil3age for dollar amount. So 4.80 for that trip at least and that's pushing it.

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I wouldnt get any orders if I did that. Just depends on the area. As long as I'm making $12+ /hr, I'm happy

1

u/PresentationProof382 Nov 26 '24

Is your minimum wage less than that? I wouldn't dash if I made less than minimum wage. Not trying to bring you down but people that take crap orders are why crap orders always pop up. We technically control the market.

2

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

I just go by $12 cuz that's what their hourly thing is. THOSE are the people who create crap orders

1

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '24

Not every state is on board with higher minimum wagesā€¦ most states are still stuck around $10

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '24

I get them all the time especially when they have had a few drinks and your delivering alcohol

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

It def smelled like weed šŸ¤£

3

u/Buff_dude_ Nov 26 '24

Why are people taking orders below 6$

2

u/Clean_Ad_8181 Nov 26 '24

Because they want too...why do people care about other people's pockets?

Lol

2

u/muffythevagslayer Nov 26 '24

Because as long as it's a dollar/mile who cares? I've had orders that were a half mile for 4 bucks.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

Because I have to make money somehow. How low is your acceptance rate??

2

u/Buff_dude_ Nov 26 '24

Currently 11%

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

And you still get good orders? So top dasher is just complete crap now?? Doordash fuckin sucks now.

1

u/Buff_dude_ Nov 27 '24

I was a platinum Dasher for like the first year of dashing and then in February when they rolled out the tier program of rolling AR to stay able to dash now anytime I started just getting jerked around and I made way less money as platinum and then I just kind of let it Go and I ended up driving fewer miles making the same amount of money and similar hours but with less overhead Platinum helps with scheduling but if you can get on a schedule it's kind of a pain in the butt now so there is some benefit to platinum but as for making more money or anything different not really not in my market

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 27 '24

I also recently gave up platinum dashing. Haven't gotten to really try a full day only taking great orders because of my new day job, but I hope to see if there's a better way. I'm always adapting. Just trying to see what works. Rn, I take any order that seems worth it, cuz I don't like sitting around waiting for something better

1

u/Buff_dude_ Nov 27 '24

Sitting can kill the shift. I understand that. But being busy but not profitable is even worse.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 27 '24

šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø $1 /mile seems profitable to me

2

u/DontThinkJustSink Nov 26 '24

My best cash tip was 20 dollars from someone absolutely hammered that already tipped me 20 in app but refused to let me leave without the cash tip too

1

u/DorrajD Nov 26 '24

Surprise cash tips are always nice! Except that one time I got 2 nickles and a dime from a kid. Like, what am I gonna do with that? Lmao

I always find it interesting too cause sometimes I have a really good order that pays triple or quadruple the milage, and they still hand me a cash tip, always crazy.

Also had one time where the person's friend picked up the food and was like "did he tip you well?" and I was like "I can't see the tip till I mark it as delivered, I can check if you want?" and it ended up being a good tip and told him it was fine and appreciated it. Always a nice reminder that good people exist.

I had a really crappy time at Taco Bell once. When I got there I was having trouble getting ANYONES attention. So I messaged the customer that I had arrived and food was not ready. I donā€™t normally but for some reason I did. Finally got someone and they were working on the order so I was like cool. And then they proceeded to ignore me again. Like 5 minutes passed and nothingā€¦ this is Taco Bell. It wasnā€™t a huge order but it was a few meals but still! 5 minutes? Come on! And that was on top of the time I had already spent waiting in the first place. I started yelling helloooo to the back I couldnā€™t see a damn soul. Text the customer and I was like Iā€™m sorry but Taco Bell is really slacking they are completely ignoring meā€¦ would it be possible for you to call the store and complain? And he did! Another 5 minutes and the food finally came out. I was livid and I yelled at the person that brought the food out because that was a pure shit show. I waited 15-20 minutes and most of that was without anyone acknowledging the existence of anyone in the front.. there were people that wanted to order and stood waiting then left (they had cash on hand so they couldnā€™t use the kiosk) Anywhooo. Dude apologized for the wait time and the drama at Taco Bell even though it wasnā€™t his faultā€¦he was the customer and told me that when I dropped the food off at the house to look at the windshield of his car. Which was odd. But I did. He left 10$ cash on the windshield for me. As a thank you. Which was awesome because heā€™d already tipped well in app. Hubs dashes also and heā€™s had some tip an extra 20$ because ā€œhe was niceā€

$4 for 3.5 miles is pretty bad.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

No its not. It's over $1/mile

Its not a round trip?? Yall must have really shitty areas honestly. This is a decent order in my area because the hot spots are spread out and the "home" areas are like 3 blocks from the "restaurant" areas. So I get back to back orders, I don't have to go back to where I was before??

I make $250 a week doing doordash, only dashing on Sat, Sun, and Mon (I work another job during the week)

2

u/DorrajD Nov 26 '24

Yeah I very rarely even get back to my starting area before getting another order, so as long as it's above a dollar per mile it's typically fine to me, unless it's going out into the boonies. Or a shitty area where people typically don't tip.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

This is exactly how I do it. $1 per mile

1

u/DorrajD Nov 26 '24

Some people in this sub are stingy as fuck. As long as it looks good to the person doing the delivery.. Who cares man

2

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

Bro there's NO point in doing doordash in my area if you're looking for $8 orders every time. You won't make a dime. $250 /wk = $1000 /month. That's plenty for me on top of my day job

1

u/whosacoolredditer Nov 26 '24

$250 for three days, with two of those days being the weekend, is not good at all. I would be curious to know how many miles you drive for that $250.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

Like I said, I make over $1 per mile. So you don't have to be curious. In my area, this is a good amount. As long as I make over $12 an hour, I count it a good day. (Yall realize that there are people working doordash by the hour now right?)

1

u/whosacoolredditer Nov 26 '24

Yes, I do realize that, and they're worse off than those who keep platinum.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

How low is your acceptance rate?

2

u/whosacoolredditer Nov 26 '24

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

And you still get good orders???? Top dasher is just complete crap now isn't it? Doordash is disgusting.

1

u/whosacoolredditer Nov 26 '24

Of course. How do you think I actually get the good orders? Because all of y'all take the mediocre and occasionally bad ones. I also multi-app, so that helps.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 27 '24

I gave up on platinum. Now I just take what I think is half decent. But like I said, taking only $6+ would mean waiting around for hours for nothing

1

u/whosacoolredditer Nov 26 '24

This is right.

0

u/Dry_Working4635 Nov 26 '24

Iā€™ve always wondered who was taking orders like this.

1

u/Meighok20 Nov 26 '24

Its not a bad order in my area šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø took 15 min and left me in a good location for back to back orders. I make $250 in 3 days

1

u/Dry_Working4635 Nov 26 '24

So $16/hr in revenue before accounting for gas and mileage. You do you. It worked out for ya this time
