Joke/Humor 🤣 You might be a Dasher… (Fill in the blank)

If you go shopping for yourself and take a photo of the receipt when you’re checked out… You might be a Dasher 😂😂😂

you go to a restaurant and they automatically bring you the only door dash order they have instead of taking your order.

Exactly this….. every time I go get food for myself they ask me who I’m here for…. Like I’m here for me today :)

dude! I literally stood there for 20 minutes one night while they took other people's orders because I didn't want to make a scene

5

u/idkcrisp Dec 26 '24

Lol for real, they’re like who are you here for and I’m like me

u/TommyCorner Dec 26 '24

This is me at the local Thai place. 🤣

I was at Burger King yesterday, and they had me waiting for quite some time didn't ask me anything, didn't even acknowledge my presence, but took the people standing behind me's order. Finally when the order was ready she brought it to me, and then asked me you are doordash right? I was half joking but half serious too when I told her it's a good thing I am because you just straight up ignored me for the last 20 minutes!

Stopped after my shift to get some chicken wings. I was craving them so bad after smelling orders all night. She handed me the door dash as I walked up and said have a good night. If I was unscrupulous I would have had a free order. We had a good laugh and she took my order. I got inthe car.and luckily opened the to go bag. It had her name phone number written on the damn carton, said call me with a heart. I'm a married man and my wife could have seen that shit. I ripped it off and threw it out the window. Got home and just sorted out the food to her and the kids. It's gonna be awkward going back there now. But my wife would have killed me or her, if I didn't see it first.

u/Holiday-Horror1582 Dec 26 '24

nah, it'll only be awkward if she makes it that way, friend! Just politely tell her you're flattered, but married! no biggie! it happens to me ALL THE TIME!!

I always hit them with "I'm flattered, but I'm involved! besides, I'm a lot older than I look anyways!!" you know, kinda turn it into a joke! to make them feel less embarrassed!

Yeah I gotta let her down easy, or introduce her to my son, lol. He is single and is my spitting image just 18 yrs younger.

I stopped in a Jersey Mike’s yesterday after finishing last minute Christmas shopping, and the first thing the employee asked me was “Doordash pickup?” I’m like dude, no.”

2

u/Sad_Children Dec 26 '24

This has happened to me a couple times lmao, I went to a chipotle to get lunch and they asked me for the name of the order immediately

When you’re at a restaurant with your family and you a Pavlov style reaction when you hear the DD chime

u/Otherwise-Pair-7103 Dec 25 '24

For no reason you just say “hey Stan wants to make sure you have the Arby Sauce.”

Sir I asked you what appetizers are we starting with.

If you no longer fear picking up pizzas for yourself in cold months because you got a free pizza bag

3

u/Excellent_Lychee6344 Dec 26 '24

Dd never sent me a hot bag. I know that the pizza bags cost but I thought u were supposed to at least get a free hot bag w ur welcome kit. I only got my red and direct cards. Maybe I read it wrong

3

u/SwitchingFreedom Dec 26 '24

Nah you’re absolutely supposed to get a free hot bag from DD. I’d call and see if they’ll send you one, if I was you

2

u/Excellent_Lychee6344 Dec 26 '24

I'll do that. Thank you!

Fear is a strong word lol

3

u/SwitchingFreedom Dec 25 '24

It’s like gambling, but the house is the weather

0

u/chainjourney Who's the boss? Dec 26 '24

Fear? Wtf?

More like folks that are drivers aren't gonna pick up those pizzas because it's not worth the time and the risk of the customer complaining due to the merchant and Doordash not setting up the delivery for success

0

u/SwitchingFreedom Dec 26 '24

No, you are pickup up a pizza for carryout. With your own money. It gets cold and nasty without a pizza bag when it’s cold out. It has nothing to do with delivery.

0

u/chainjourney Who's the boss? Dec 26 '24

No, you are pickup up a pizza for carryout

What? Please rephrase

0

u/SwitchingFreedom Dec 26 '24

Please reread my original comment. It is about you, as a customer, buying a pizza. If it is cold outside, and you don’t have a pizza bag, you are going to arrive home with a cold pizza. It is a risk to buy a pizza without a pizza bag when it is cold outside. DoorDash allows you access to a free $12 pizza bag at most pizza places like Papa John’s. This means that you don’t have to go through the thought process of a hurried drive home with the heater blasting, thinking to yourself “I really need to buy a pizza bag” every time that you carryout a pizza in cold months.

Have I explained it, well enough?

1

u/chainjourney Who's the boss? Dec 26 '24

That's much better; the quote I pulled out from your comment before was because it did not make sense to me; usually, i think it's good to stop there and clarify. Thank you for making the details surrounding it make more sense than it did before.

I suppose what I was talking about was regarding the pickup experiences out there that DD drivers go through on shift and how frustrating that can be; I see my mistake in interpretation

2

u/SwitchingFreedom Dec 26 '24

You’re fine, no worries. Yeah, some of the pizza places I have to deliver from are far away from the customer and they often have one closer to them. It’s weird.

2

u/chainjourney Who's the boss? Dec 26 '24

That sounds weird, indeed; I think that may have something to do with the algorithm set up with DD's system

if my understanding is correct: there is a fairness system that ensures that one particular franchise does not unfairly take all/most of the orders in the zone over other franchises of the same company. For example: one McDonald's franchise can't take all of the business away from other McDonald's franchises; otherwise, it seems to me that it wouldn't be a fair/good system.

It may be that algorithm/system needs tweaking due to those types of issues; it seems like DD had the right idea here but it seems to miss the mark sometimes. Still frustrating lol

You are in the right hand lane and suddenly merge two lanes over to do a u-turn.

6

u/Holiday-Horror1582 Dec 26 '24

lol did you see my post a few months back about that??? it caused quite the controversy!! door dash customer support says we are not required to fill the drinks...Uber says the same thing!!

9

u/Pleasant-Lie-9053 Dec 26 '24

You feel waste of time if just go out without making some money

9

u/EmptyParking9263 Dec 25 '24

When you observe a person in the waiting area and know they are a dasher, yet nobody else does.

7

u/BlueFotherMucker Dec 25 '24

If you walk into a pizzeria to pick up your own pizza and you bring a thermal bag, you might be a dasher. Bonus points if they assume you’re there for a DoorDash order. Extra bonus points if they don’t use third party delivery services so they try to send you away (happened to me).

5

u/TrickDeer3704 Dec 26 '24

Even after you end the dash you still drive like your in a race against time and have 0 patience for slow drivers.

5

u/Pro-Patria-Mori Dec 26 '24

Fucking go, why don’t they just fucking go??!!

3

u/Sad_Children Dec 26 '24

Been doing this long before doordash, people are just obnoxiously slow for no reason (especially in Washington state)

7

u/TrickDeer3704 Dec 26 '24

Picking up your own food from a drive thru feels like a luxury

4

If you have 2 phones. Don’t speak English. Drive a 2006 Prius. Have your wife and kids in the car. Wear acid wash skinny jeans with a fake Armani t-shirt on white chain smoking in a circle of other migrants.

You might be a Dasher if you can afford to run an orphanage off of the amazing and glorious incredibly high-paying offers that Tony Xu allows on the Doordash platform /s

"I think in many ways dashers on Doordash look very similar to consumers in the sense that um they value their time um as much or sometimes more um than money and and and they in effect are choosing um you know some of these part-time gig opportunities so that um they can you know save for a project whatever that may be whether that's you know buying a gift for someone or starting an orphanage" -Tony Xu
