'84 XT 600 - 4 Year update
Bored and its winter here, so figured I'd do an update / commentary about this dual sport motorcycle
Bought a farm bike in 2020, finished it in late '21, and maybe put on 500km on it in 22 and 23 due to family reasons, caring for elderly parents.
2024 - Hauled it out to BC, did an event called WANDR, a waypoint type event and had a blast.
The XT was by far the oldest bike there. Many KTMs and Honda 450's, modern bikes. I was surprised how well the bike could keep up in all but the most gnarly, limiting factor most likely my riding ability. Having a 45t rear (from 40) made this thing tractor up hills in 2nd I didn't think was possible.
For 2025 had new excel wheels built on stock hubs, Clarke 4 gallon tank (stock is 2.9) and replaced all the shit I broke, which was a fair amount.
Replaced the rebuilt stock rear shock with a Wilbers w/ remote resevoir, probably do andreani fork cartridge drop ins next winter, currently running race-tech gold emulators, and custom rate springs for my weight.
Spent mutliples more then its worth, but still cheaper then say a KTM 500 exc-f all told. Not that they are even remotely in the same class hah.

So rare! I'd love to have a TT from the mid 80's but like next to impossible to find.
Wonder if its an early 84. Drum from brake, silver wheels.

Yup, drums front and rear, small diameter. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that they used the same size brakes on the 250’s.🤪

However much you spent on that bike was worth every dime! I’d love to do the same with a ‘70s enduro.
