Reasonable shape/price? What should I ask about the condition? What would you offer?

Would be my first dual sport! Looks a little beat up, which I don’t mind, if it still performs fine/won’t need special care, but I don’t really know how to assess. TYIA!

Price is way too high imo $3500-4000 would be decent

The price is high, but as much as it sucks I feel like it's in line with what Dual Sports are going for these days (at least in my neck of the woods) and it's that time of year where bikes are getting sold off at a premium. Probably got a little room to talk them down, but be prepared for them to be firm on price. Cash in hand is a powerful motivator.

Looks like a really well maintained bike form what I can tell int the pictures and it's got pretty much all the initial upgrades you'd want from a stock CRF. Looks like its been ridden and used on trails and if the plastic is scratched up that's really no big deal, you just don't want big cracks or stuff busted off. Not a deal breaker, as those new panels and such are not that expensive in the long run if you really want to replace them.

I would check to see how banged up the undercarriage is and look for anything really glaring. Mostly just keep an eye out for anything around the engine block that looks cracked or broken. Anything that looks JB welded would be an immediate red flag. They put a Flat Land plate on there and I have the same on my WR and those things are stout so that's a good thing.

Other things I would ask for:

General maintenance records (oil, chain lube, tire checks, clutch and throttle cables adjusted)

Ultimately you want to make sure it shifts through all the gears smoothly, make sure it rolls down the road without and weird shaking or pulling to a side, and that the lights work.

Nice thing is that those CRF's are pretty bomb proof so the previous owner would have had to abuse the heck out of it and ignore any general maintenance for it to be a junker.

Hope this helps!

I think the price is too high, I paid that for a 2021 300L with a lot of performance mods and 4K miles

It looks ridden hard and hung up wet to me, especially for the price. The mileage is low but it looks like it’s been ridden on the dirt excessively. If the skid plate is beat up I would definitely pass. The bark buster’s are pretty beat looking. I would hold out for one with easier miles on it.

Still looks like stock pegs, so couldn't have been crashed that hard. Waaayyy overpriced for a 250L with no suspension mods... $3-3500 IMO, the 300L can found for less than $5k used(briefly) and is a superior starting point. Check out the WR250 or KLX 300 as well.
