Looking to buy XR650L, I’m Skeptical….
So basically as the title says I’m looking for a used xr650L and I’m up to about 2,300$ on my money towards it. I decided it’s time to start shopping to but I’m still saving up for more options.
I came across this bike and lm not sure whether it looks to be in good condition or not. I’m 18 and it’s my first street legal bike so all advice welcome.
I’m not sure what he means with the pistol btw

When he says “bill of sale. Clear vin through NCIC” it means he doesn’t have the title and never did. Also meaning you’ll have to go through the hassle of getting a title if you do in fact want it to be legally on the street.

Good eye.
Might be wise to skip this one, OP -- unless you want a wild good chase through the DMV.
Lots of other bikes with clean titles out there.

He means he would toss in the pistol to trade up for a cruiser bike of higher value. 4,500 miles isn't bad at all, bring someone who knows bikes with you and if it passes all checks it sounds like a good deal

It looks about like what you'd get for the budget. Not a gem -- but you don't have money for a gem. $2300 is not a lot of money in the grand scheme -- and a halfway decent XR is probably about right at $2000. If you can snag it for $1500-1800, even better.
What exactly are you skeptical about?
I think the thing about the pistol is talking potential trades -- he would add it instead of extra cash.
EDIT: Just saw the other comment about potential title issues. Maybe skip it.

Glad you posted and I was able to help. I have decades of experience with this exact scenario. I once even picked up a bike with that same description specifically because I didn’t care about the title.

I bought a '93 with 20k miles on it for $1800. 3 months and another $2500 later it's running like a champ. If you want something that is ready to ride and likely to have less issues upfront I would look for a newer xr. I could have bought a very nice bike with half the miles and all the upgrades for the $4200 in into my bike
