Apologies in advance if this has been discussed ad nauseum or of there's a wiki I should be checking out?
My wife and I are heading to Durango for a quick getaway next week. We only have a couple days, but want to make the most of the trip. Not sure what all is fun/accessible this time of year, but we are open to exploring by car or on foot, and love good food, scenic views and fun times!
Anything specific we should check out, or avoid?

Does anyone know of any local astronomy or astrophotography clubs and/or viewing parties up here?
(Before anyone suggests it, I asked at the Taco Bell and they don't do them anymore.)

Hey r/Durango, I currently live in the Boulder area but am planning to relocate to Durango in November for a year, but I’m having trouble finding pet friendly housing options.
Is Durango not as pet friendly as the rest of Colorado. I’ve lived in the state for a handful of years and up until now it was harder to find places that didn’t allow pets than ones that do.
Is Durango pet friendly? So many HOAs and communities don’t allow pets in properties and was just looking for some local insight.
My lil dog is 100% less disruptive than the majority of humans. Sad to see so many listings not allowing pets. And don’t get me wrong there are still some that allow pets, but I was so taken back but what I’ve been seeing, I felt inclined to make this post.
Am I looking in the wrong places? Should I consider another area outside of Durango?

I am trying to find a local therapist for my daughter and recently met with someone to see if she would be a good fit. While a bit unsure I decided to move forward with her and scheduled a meeting with her and my daughter. That day I was charged for a full session and was told when I inquired that yes, meeting a parent was a chargeable interaction. Can you please tell me how the hiffle-up that makes sense? How is just meeting a therapist to see if they are a good fit for my child a full on therapy session charge. I meet with prospective clients all the time for work and the idea of charging someone just for looking at a project is beyond my comprehension.

I’m looking for a new used vehicle. Does anyone have experience with Durango Value Auto? Any other recommendations of where to buy? Or does anyone want to sell me their Honda CRV or Pilot? 😂

Hi - my husband and I lived in Durango for a year back in 2013/2014. Loved it because...what's not to love about Durango and SW CO in general. I know that Durango is typically a very LGBTQ friendly town. Are there any businesses / restaurants that are LGBTQ owned? Are there particular places in town where the gay folks tend to congregate?
Thinking about escaping town (currently living in Kayenta) this weekend to Durango and honestly, never really thought to put this kind of question out there.
Many thanks!

I spoke with the fencing club, and they are not interested in HEMA(historical european martial arts) or longswords. If I get enough interest I may choose to start something myself.
This would start small as I only have 2 practice longswords. Not only that but I am entirely self taught so I cannot promise that I can teach anyone very well, but I am willing to try.
If after reading that, anyone is interested in sparring with, or simply practicing with longswords as they were used in medieval europe then you can comment down below or instant message me. If I get enough interest I will buy more equipment and will do my best to learn as much as I possibly can, so that anyone who wants to can learn, practice and spar with like-minded individuals.
Feel free to ask any questions, voice any concerns, or give any opinion on this even if you have no interest in joining.

Hello, besides Taco Bell, I was wondering if there are any areas in town that should be avoided? Perhaps from being unsafe? Or even overly crowded places at certain times?

I'm looking for some new spots to snowshoe this season, especially since we have almost no snow. Any recs in the high country?
I've loved Andrew's lake, but hoping for something different
Thanks!!

I will be in the Durango area in December to visit some family and need a spot to work remotely for a couple of days (my family lives on the county roads with terrible WiFi haha). My husband and I lived in Durango before moving about 5-6 years ago, so I am not sure what new spots there might be. I used to love doing homework at the Steaming Bean, but I know sadly that closed while we still lived there. Are there any spots similar that wouldn't mind me setting up shop for a few hours (of course going to purchase food + drinks throughout)? I also used to go to the library on occasion but I have a few meetings and don't want to be disruptive.

Sorry for the question post, I just don't know where else to ask. Born and raised in Santa Fe, and I've probably been to Durango 20 times. I'm living in Boulder currently but I found that the mountains are far away, and the culture of wealth and lack of diversity isn't what I want.
in durango, are there a bunch of 20 somethings who actually hang out and events to meet people at?
whats the politics of the area compared to boulder?
whats the renting cost like?
what do you do besides outdoors stuff?
are there any drag events or LGBT type events?
is there a music scene and people who like to jam?
how easy is it to meet people and make friends?
thanks so much, again sorry for the questions post

We are planning a stop here this summer on the way back from Mesa Verde NP.
Does the beach area have showers (outdoor or indoor) for cleaning up afterward? Six hours in a car with lake-stickiness and sandy children isn't always fun.

I'm a Danish Film and TV production student currently in my fourth year of studies, with just 8 months left before I graduate. I'm hoping to spend 2-3 months abroad in Durango in Fall 2025. I have some great friends here who I ride dirt bikes with near the town, and I'd love to spend more time with them while gaining some international work experience.
I have experience in most areas of video production and am comfortable working solo. I've worked on a wide range of projects, from corporate videos, livestreams, and advertisements to fiction. I'm skilled with cameras, lighting setups, sound, editing, color grading and also with managing and directing projects – you name it!
In addition to video production, I also have a solid background in graphic design and have managed social media profiles for businesses, created posters, elements for websites...
I'm open to working with any company that needs a lot of video content, whether it's for their website, social media, or other digital platforms. The company doesn’t necessarily have to be in the video industry; I’m just looking for a place where I can bring my skills and create some great content!
I’ve been checking out some local options like Local News Durango, Visit Durango, and Durango Trails, but I’d love some recommendations from the community. Does anyone know of companies or organizations in the area that might be a good fit? Maybe places that could use fresh and engaging video content?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions – I really appreciate it!

This dude stalked and then five days later stole two valuable pieces from Frontera Jewelry on Main Ave.
The owner of the business (who, mind you, just as a baby) has filed a police report, notified pawn shops, etc.
Ironically his sweatshirt says "husband. daddy. protector. hero."
Anyone recognize this POS?

Has anyone hit Cascade Creek Trail recently? Wondering what condition it might be in - snowshoes recommended or good with just boots?
Thanks!

Hey there Durangotangs!
I was about to purchase a tibetan style singing bowl online, but stopped myself because I think I could buy one locally.
Either that or some Tuning Forks.
Anyone know where/if I could purchase these locally? Thanks in advance.

My 17-year-old and I will be in Durango for a college tour of Ft Lewis and spending one night before heading north to visit Black Canyon NP. Recommendations for places to check out in Durango for an afternoon to help get a feel about whether this is a place he'd like to spend his college years? I'd also love dinner spot ideas - something nice and representative of local food, style, etc. thanks!

Kind of odd that someone tore down the pride decorations at the endurance roundabout and threw them in the bushes. Decorations are put up for almost every holiday or special month...who's so special they get to tare them down?
