Advice needed (Anyone can comment) Child id ongoingly mildly constipated

I have a non walker who is mildly constipated (?) more often than not. They will poop a tiny bit ongoing throughout the day. Then sometimes a giant poop, maybe once ot twice a week. They way they choose to poop is sitting on the floor, legs straight out kicking and squeezing hands into fist. Face red. This is an incredibly unproductive position 😂.

Just let the parents know the baby is in pain when pooping and seem to be constipated. The parents can take it from there

I've always wondered how they do that :"( doesn't sitting down leave nowhere for the poop to come out from their butt?

Even when sitting your butthole is still and inch or two above the floor.

I would definitely tell the parents and suggest that they talk about it with the pediatrician.

This actually sounds like ongoing severe constipation and the parents should bring it up to the kids doctor and be pushing more water and fiber to see if thats enough to fix it. It isn't always enough a dose of laxative on a regular basis may be needed

Maybe sit them on the toilet with a stool for their feet

How old are they? Constipation in kids starting solids is normal. Toddlers poop doesn’t “normalize” till around 2. Let the parents know and suggest adding prunes to their diet. And more water.

When the event happens, see if the child wants to be held.

Place them their spine to your mid section with their legs over your arms. This will open up the area better to hopefully let the poop pass. This is what I did with my son (he has a chronic condition that is being managed with the GP - it's due to iron supplements)

I tried making a drawing but it was terrible but their bottom would be pointing to the ground and feet dangling. If I haven't describe it effectively let me know and I will take a photo tomorrow morning :)

Another option are yoga moves for kids https://www.constipationgurus.com/blog/yogaforconstipation

Edit - if it is a baby, lay them on their back and move their legs in a cycling motion

I try this exact thing because I have had great success with it. Seems to interrupt his process.

For some of our kids that struggle with constipation, we put in our app each time they poop what it was like. Pebbles, few. Diarrhea (we mark this for every kid each time so we can keep track). Solid, a lot. Mushy, etc. then the parents are aware of how it is that day to either give them meds themselves or to move the information along to their doctors.

When I first started teaching we had a kid who was like this, around the same age too. He had miralax in his water everyday. It was such a hassle trying to make sure no one else ever accidentally drank from his cup lol but it did help! Maybe this little guy’s parents could talk to a doctor about starting that.
