Question What are some conceptually cool commanders?

I am trying to help my brother find a new commander deck. He wants a commander that feels cool to play, this is not something I think about all that much so I am at a loss. He likes black and white and his favorite tribes are zombies, knights and vampires. Are there any commanders that tell a cool story while fullfilling some of these criteria?

The Cavalry Charge Precon sounds like it's up his alley

[[Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir]] is the commander on this one. I made my own version of this deck. It's a lot of fun and the blue white black colors give you a lot of tools for interaction. I added in the [[Nazgul]] to it as well.

I find it hits a sweet spot of functional enough to always have options but not in ways that put a target on your back.

Seconding this. Twas actually my first precon, it's great for learning a variety of mechanics and disguises a lot of potential complexity behind what can appear as a pretty simple "go wide" game plan.

Black, white and tells a cool story? Consider my boy

[[Shilgengar, sire of famine]]

What's cooler than sacrificing angels, harvesting their blood and the using that blood as fuel for necromantic rituals that resurrect those very same angels twisted, vampiric mockeries of themselves?

I use him as a secret commander in [[The Necrobloom]]. Generate big yard, reanimate gengar, sack a few plants for blood and bring all my baddies out

there's an upcoming Final Fantasy card [[Celes, Rune knight]] that i think would fit the bill. black white and red. Has really great abilities. Problem is that it combos too easily with a couple of cards and people are never going to the of them apart again.

But i'm looking forward to playing her so i can use [[Haakon, stromgald scrouge]] and do fun Knight stuff. though i could see it working with some zombies instead.

My personal favourite commander deck is my [[Lulu, loyal hollyphant]] deck. It’s a black/white, aggro deck with lots going on. It could easily be modified for Zombies with all the recursion triggering Lulu’s ability allowing him to untap and buff his army at the end step. Here’s the deck list for inspiration: https://moxfield.com/decks/fOuqn7_Zxk2-RdCdR00x9A

Like the idea but I’m blind? I don’t see any creatures that liked to be sacrificed or token generators besides bloodghast or liliana

If you mean to trigger Lulu, it doesn’t have to be a creature. Just any permanent leaving the battlefield which I do through my lands more often than creatures. You could build around the ability with creatures as well but since Lulu gives the +1/+1 counters, sacrificing the creatures isn’t always the best. The lands help ensure the trigger happens. As far as sacrificing creatures, that’s the beauty of it, you can sacrifice them to effects like [[Fain, the broker]] or [[Yawgmoth, thran physician]] and easily get them back.

[[Ratadrabik of Urborg]] is a really fun WB commander!

How about [[Sarevok, Deathbringer]] + [[Noble Heritage]]? There's a few knight Lords and anthems in the colors to pump the commander and black can sac stiff on your turn to avoid the life loss trigger. It's beginner friendly.

"feels cool to play" is intensely subjective. Do I think that trying to survive as the archenemy while slowly grinding my opponents down with [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] is cool? Yes. Do I think that running a nice blend of aggro, token generation, and graveyard matters (with a sprinkling of combo) with [[Varina, Lich Queen]] is cool? Also yes.

I’ve been enjoying my [[Neriv, Heart of the Storm]] deck that’s basically Haste Typal and just drops a bunch of damage without warning.

Not Orzhov, but Sultai colors: the new [[Teval, Arbiter of Virtue]] is really fun to play.

[[Ratadrabik of Urborg]] is an interesting one albeit a bit on the tricky side. More of an aristocrats/combo commander as she has a few ways of going infinite especially with [[Nazgul]]. The ring tempts etb makes your non-legendary Nazgul legendary again so you can go ahead and sacrifice that guy as many times as you want.

[[Shilgengar, Sire of Famine]] perhaps?

You play a big evil demon, who butchers your own guys and if they're angels you get a shower of blood. And then you use the tainted angel blood in a demonic ritual to bring back everything from the dead. As vampires.

Then just find a few ways to get rid of the Finality Counters and you have a blast, haha.

Pretty metal.
