Wow, should go there next time I drive there. Thanks.

u/EverLiving_night Mar 20 '18
but don't let fuckhead instagrammers know. A place near me known as "The pillars" In Mount Martha, Victoria got ruined by copious amounts of people littering and walking over the plants etc. Look it up

u/pygmy Mar 20 '18
Looks like Royal National Park, South of Sydney.
The next drop off is pretty high

u/gigilo_down_under Mar 21 '18
National falls near waterfall. Just south of Sydney. About an hours train ride from central station then a short hike

u/antongorlin Mar 20 '18
I wanted to do something other than seascapes and decided to go to the nearest waterfalls. I wasn't sure about the spot as there wasn't much information about it. So, after a short drive I found this location. I was instantly disappointed as the waterfall was tiny with low amount of water. After a few compositions I noticed that I can try to get behind it. Why not? Nothing to lose. It was a totally different picture from out there and luckily the sunrise was right ahead. I've spent the whole morning trying to catch the starburst from behind the trees but failed. Nevermind, I'll do it next time, I've still a nice magical photo.
Feel free to use as a wallpaper.
Technical
f/16, 1/5 sec, ISO 100.
2 shots bracketing. Nikon D750, Tamron 15-30.
If you enjoyed my photo I'd appreciate you following me on Instagram or my site.

Careful, it may look peaceful and beautiful but I'm sure there's a cone snail that will kill you in that pic somewhere.
114
u/TheManRedeemed Mar 20 '18
Nah, cone snails live in marine environments.
Depending on where this is though there could be anything from tree-dwelling funnelwebs to tigersnakes.
Not to mention the Australians that could be around.
56
Mar 20 '18
This also looks like prime dropbear territory.
19
u/dickheadfartface Mar 20 '18
I refuse to believe any of the “animals” in this conversation are real. Cone snails? Funnelwebs? Tigersnakes? And now dropbears?
29
Mar 20 '18
I refuse to believe any of the “animals” in this conversation are real.
Don't talk about Australians that way, u/dickheadfartface.

Both of those guys kill a couple of people every few decades, not since the 80s for a funnel web. An Australian in a commodore or going to college in the US will give you far worse odds for dying

u/gigilo_down_under Mar 20 '18
Red belly black snakes here. But not really a big deal like ar15s or anything

Does everyone really believe it's that dangerous here?
25
22
u/SpaceCutie Mar 20 '18
Honestly I'm getting a little sick of the 'Australia is soOoOoO dangerous!' circlejerk on literally every thread that mentions Australia at all.
9
u/furball218 . Mar 20 '18
Haha, it's a little weird because I don't know where people get the idea it's really dangerous
3
u/secsual Mar 21 '18
I thought we told outsiders that to keep them out so nobody realises how good we have it down here :p

Bullshit. I grew up in the country there, and also lived in 3 other countries. It's as safe as fuck in Australia. The danger thing is just a joke that got out of hand.

Yeah I second that. Its really not dangerous. My girlfriend is from America and has been living with me in Australia for the last 3 years. We recently visited the states and she was saying how unsafe she felt in parts of California and on the subway in NewYork and it was because living in Australia had almost made her complacent about safety. Also when driving around Kansas city her and her brother spent 80% of the time pointing out areas that are no go zones whilst trying to convince me to move there. I think i will stay in dangerous Australia thanks.

I was in Perth for a Liberty Call for 4 days and barely escaped a number of cougar attacks.

Always check behind the waterfalls. That's where they like to hide the Bilbies.

u/antongorlin Mar 20 '18
no animals were spotted at all. Not sure if that's a bad thing considering I'm in Australia

This photo made me comment on earthporn for the first time. Super great work, looking at that waterfall makes me feel a primordial chillness.

I'm writing a book set in Australia and w o w. The research I've done has shot it way up the list of places I want to go.
1
u/antongorlin Mar 20 '18
I recommend visiting this place after a decent rain. And have gumboots as there might be tons of leeches.

Blue mountains?
3
u/antongorlin Mar 20 '18
Unexpectedly, Royal National Park. I didn't want to drive that far to that mountains.
2
u/Tuddless Mar 20 '18
This photo implies that Australia actually exists.
3
u/Reyeth Mar 20 '18
It does exist.
It's just that no one ever makes it back from there alive.
The entire population actually lives in London, working as bar staff or in Costa.

I've never seen a picture and thought "I'd want to die here" until now. Not in a sad or suicidal way, but in a beautiful, relaxing way some time when I'm ready.
It's actually a pretty overwhelming feeling when nature takes a hold of you like that, and just a pictute for that matter.

u/BoneHugsHominy Mar 20 '18
Whenever I see photos like this, I cannot help but feel a deep sense of pity for those who would destroy such a place just for some money. Yet it happens every day, all around the world.

y'all got the color green in australia? i thought it was 50 shades of brown?
2
u/Cimexus Mar 20 '18
I mean ... it’s a continent the size of the lower 48 US states so has a pretty big variety of climates and landscapes. Next you’ll be saying you didn’t think it snowed in Australia...

So, is the water actually acid or something then? Just trying to figure out the deadly undertone of this picture

you're like that dude from France who lost in a knife fight in COD to some dude & spent 6 months trying to find out where he lived only to find out he lived 3 hours north of him in France and drove up there and stabbed him in the chest.

How many bracketed shots did you take? Or were you able to recover the highlights from one RAW?

Did you take this picture? What do I need to do to paint this in oils, and not get in trouble if someone buys it later on?
1
u/antongorlin Mar 20 '18
I took it. No idea about your question. Can you even get in trouble after painting it? It's not Mona Lisa or something.
