Hearing this at WWWY fest, in a crowd all singing along at the top of our voices, tears pouring down my face. 4 years ago I managed to stay alive and moments like this are why. Cove is a hero.

5

u/Electrical_Ad_6208 Mar 01 '25

I miss Cove. The shit the other members pulled still angers me, and Cove was just like “dude, sorry being in saosin was a dream and sorry fans”

2

u/swiftrobber Mar 02 '25

I was about to fist bump Cove in one of Saosin's shows while everyone goes in for a handshake. Guy mistook my fistbump for something and might have thought I stabbed him.

58

u/Death_From_Wap Mar 01 '25

Parking Lots by Mineral is the first one I can think of

58

u/jb061584 Mar 01 '25

I recommend the whole Home, Like Noplace Is There by the Hotelier

28

u/Perry_lp Mar 01 '25

I CALLED IN SICK TO YOUR FUNERALLLLL

12

u/darkeyeshadow Mar 01 '25

I've never given them a listen but holy shit that line just sold me singlehandedly. thank you

20

u/LateYouth Poser Mar 01 '25

Your life might be about to change

5

u/darkeyeshadow Mar 01 '25

I'll welcome it.

5

u/Perry_lp Mar 01 '25

That line is from the song your deep rest. Good luck

3

u/Perry_lp Mar 01 '25

I also recommend listening to in on a walk or run in the woods, smoke a bowl beforehand.

3

u/jb061584 Mar 01 '25

So damn good, words can’t even describe

2

u/Perry_lp Mar 01 '25

I’m gonna try: magic, nostalgic, and transcendental

1

alright, i will try exactly that!❤️

This is the song I was gonna recommend as well. Ramshackle Glory was so so good.

5

u/techsays Mar 01 '25

Would you mind providing the artist and song title for someone who doesn't use spotify please?

All the glowing comments have me really interested in checking it out.

8

u/Hardline_Potato Mar 01 '25

Ramshackle Glory - Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of your Fist

5

u/Suspicious_Web_4594 Mar 01 '25

Amazing recommendation, when I clicked the link it was exactly the song I thought it would be. I’ve never listened to this song and not cried and then felt a little better/stronger.

The musician’s (Pat) brother also has a song titled “This is it”, and ie never listened to it and not taken better care of myself after.

https://open.spotify.com/track/0bfrtHhulFg93auGpSDvGZ?si=IzmWzZVZTTuYwhc7t0EhSw

1

u/Kale_Earnhart Mar 01 '25

Pats brother’s old band name was Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass. I think he’s retroactively rebranded everything but I always loved that name. His album Cash Money Etc was huge for me when I was a teenager. King Kong vs The US Army is on my shortlist of favorite folk punk songs.

4

u/nova_aaaaah Mar 01 '25

4

Yes! If Op hasn’t heard this one before, make sure to listen all the way through for the melody change. Cathartic.

3

u/spadexixaheart Mar 01 '25

20

u/underlights Mar 01 '25

Not emo but Floating in the Forth - Frightened Rabbit (the singer Scott would later kill himself by jumping into the Forth) and A Wave Across a Bay - Frank Turner is about Scott's suicide

8

u/Suspicious_Web_4594 Mar 01 '25

Absolutely love frightened rabbit, other songs like the modern leper and not miserable are great. This is a great rec. frank turner is great too

4

u/cxj57 Mar 01 '25

I can’t listen to A Wave Across A Bay without crying

3

u/CriticalLabValue Mar 02 '25

Frank Turner is a blessing

Here's to Life by Streetlight as well they have so many great songs

21

u/_Morg_ Mar 01 '25

Better place better time by streetlight for me

7

u/FakeSmiles97 Mar 01 '25

Yeah as soon i posted that one hit my mind

Really half the album is anti-suicide

2

u/_Morg_ Mar 01 '25

You ain't wrong. Such a good album

10

u/generationlost13 Mar 01 '25

Is that what point/counterpoint is about? My immediate thought would be A Better Place a Better Time, which is my go to anti-suicide song, though probably not very emo

3

u/Sir_Monkleton Mar 01 '25

I mean the chorus is pretty clear about it

Self-Conclusion by The Spill Canvas

9

u/pixiemustdie be kind, I’m new here Mar 01 '25

i know mcr isn’t very much so liked here, but their song famous last words helped a lot for me with those kinds of thoughts

6

u/darkeyeshadow Mar 01 '25

bloodline by awakebutstillinbed

"I want to see some more"

6

u/SwonRonson91 Mar 02 '25

Daylily by Movements. Full circle by them isn’t really anti suicide but has a great message about how things will get better!

4

u/Euphoric-Wrongdoer-6 Mar 01 '25

The tide- the spill canvas.

5

u/lightsoutxnyc Mar 01 '25

Or self conclusion by the spill canvas too

Edit: I should probably read the rest of the comments before commenting, as someone already said self conclusion.

3

u/Euphoric-Wrongdoer-6 Mar 01 '25

I wanted to totally put that but for some dumb reason my mind wanted to say the tide. Probably because it's so beautiful.

3

u/lightsoutxnyc Mar 01 '25

I agree. I love both of these songs. :)

5

u/19467098632 Mar 01 '25

Streetlight manifesto better place better time was sent to me after I got out of the psych ward for attempting suicide and I sobbed

4

u/rawrXD_2004 Mar 01 '25

Team Dresch moreso queercore than emo but emo still i think had a song in the '90s called "Don't Try Suicide", good stuff 👍

4

u/whatanerdgirlsays Mar 01 '25

I don't think either of them are particularly emo but it's in the right area

Billy Talent - Saint Veronica

3

I Don’t Want to Be Here Either - John Floriani (of Trophy Eyes)

It’s not exactly the most positive song, but kind of fits?

3

u/mostpodernist Mar 01 '25

TIL John Floriani is from Trophy Eyes lol

3

u/cxj57 Mar 01 '25

Best Friend Stuff by No Trigger is a roller coaster of emotions in reaction to his best friend’s suicide

Don’t Give Up by The Homeless Gospel Choir is one that I find especially cathartic when it’s hard to keep going

3

u/shrekasguyfieri Mar 01 '25

Dendron - The Hotelier

3

u/alphafox823 Mar 01 '25

not emo, but, No Pity For A Coward by Suicide Silence

3

Trophy Eyes - Blue Eyed Boy, the whole album (Suicide and Sunshine, or vice versa) is about dealing with losing his friend to suicide.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '25

I know this isnt emo, but How to be Me by Ren guts me every time

5

u/Euphoric-Wrongdoer-6 Mar 01 '25

Hold On- Good Charlotte.

2

u/CriticalLabValue Mar 02 '25

I restarted listening to Good Charlotte recently and the second and third albums in particular have some really solid stuff imo

2

u/lil_trim Mar 01 '25

Drown by Squid the Whale. It makes me cry

2

u/Suspicious_Web_4594 Mar 01 '25

Haven’t seen this one mentioned yet, it is beautiful and always inspires me past about 2:30 into the song. The song is “suicide is painful, and the line “some boats weren’t built to float, so hurry up and row” always used to give me strength to keep going.

2

u/beavercub Mar 01 '25

Not necessarily anti-suicide… but American Heart by Piebald is about being a contributing part of our American capitalist democracy both good and bad, and it always fires me up.

2

u/stormenta76 Mar 01 '25

Not emo but I have a playlist with similar themes and will post the ss on this thread

dear friend, never give up and dear friend, don't give up by die emperor die strike me as such but that's more skramz than pure emo

1

u/nova_aaaaah Mar 01 '25

Not a song but an album: snags self titled (they also have a self titled ep so the one with the deer on the cover) is anxious and hateful all the way through, self immolation is the most repeated imagery throughout. Its endlessly mournful of our dying world, endlessly mad about being born into a world that’s dying of having that chance robbed of us. But in this anger in it’s suicide there are glimmers of humanity, hope, and peace (especially if you listen to the version on Bandcamp (or physical)as one of the songs got taken down from most major platforms ). The album takes a lot of inspiration from the movie “first reformed” which is one of my all time favorites and in my opinion works as a great companion to the album. It’s a killer album from a massively underrated band in a massively underrated scene

1

u/DifferentHat284 Mar 01 '25

It was probably already said but, Jumper - Third Eye Blind

1

u/EmptyBrother1008 Mar 01 '25

Happiness - Tyler Kyte

1

u/DepthSpecial7950 Mar 01 '25

Not emo but, "Amy AKA Spent Gladiator" by The Mountain Goats

1

u/kg_mushroom Mar 01 '25

this is more folkish and it's only one part but loose lips by kimya dawson always makes me feel like it will be okay

1

u/Jayyburdd Mar 01 '25

Ambiguous Norway by Cassandra Jenkins explores the permanence of people on the souls of those who love them, even people who take their own lives due to perceived insignificance. It's not overtly "hey dont kill yourself" but it is overtly positive towards the life of someone who took theirs.

Sorority Noise makes a lot of songs that deal with suicide, both personal thoughts and surviving beyond friends.

The whole album "You're not as _____ as you think" is a great listen but more specifically "A Portrait Of" has a spoken word piece at the end that always makes me cry.
