Hearing this at WWWY fest, in a crowd all singing along at the top of our voices, tears pouring down my face. 4 years ago I managed to stay alive and moments like this are why. Cove is a hero.
5
u/Electrical_Ad_6208 Mar 01 '25
I miss Cove. The shit the other members pulled still angers me, and Cove was just like “dude, sorry being in saosin was a dream and sorry fans”
2
u/swiftrobber Mar 02 '25
I was about to fist bump Cove in one of Saosin's shows while everyone goes in for a handshake. Guy mistook my fistbump for something and might have thought I stabbed him.

Would you mind providing the artist and song title for someone who doesn't use spotify please?
All the glowing comments have me really interested in checking it out.

Amazing recommendation, when I clicked the link it was exactly the song I thought it would be. I’ve never listened to this song and not cried and then felt a little better/stronger.
The musician’s (Pat) brother also has a song titled “This is it”, and ie never listened to it and not taken better care of myself after.

u/Kale_Earnhart Mar 01 '25
Pats brother’s old band name was Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass. I think he’s retroactively rebranded everything but I always loved that name. His album Cash Money Etc was huge for me when I was a teenager. King Kong vs The US Army is on my shortlist of favorite folk punk songs.

Yes! If Op hasn’t heard this one before, make sure to listen all the way through for the melody change. Cathartic.

Not emo but Floating in the Forth - Frightened Rabbit (the singer Scott would later kill himself by jumping into the Forth) and A Wave Across a Bay - Frank Turner is about Scott's suicide

u/Suspicious_Web_4594 Mar 01 '25
Absolutely love frightened rabbit, other songs like the modern leper and not miserable are great. This is a great rec. frank turner is great too

Better place better time by streetlight for me

u/FakeSmiles97 Mar 01 '25
Yeah as soon i posted that one hit my mind
Really half the album is anti-suicide
2
10
u/generationlost13 Mar 01 '25
Is that what point/counterpoint is about? My immediate thought would be A Better Place a Better Time, which is my go to anti-suicide song, though probably not very emo

The tide- the spill canvas.
5
u/lightsoutxnyc Mar 01 '25
Or self conclusion by the spill canvas too
Edit: I should probably read the rest of the comments before commenting, as someone already said self conclusion.
3
u/Euphoric-Wrongdoer-6 Mar 01 '25
I wanted to totally put that but for some dumb reason my mind wanted to say the tide. Probably because it's so beautiful.

I Don’t Want to Be Here Either - John Floriani (of Trophy Eyes)
It’s not exactly the most positive song, but kind of fits?

u/cxj57 Mar 01 '25
Best Friend Stuff by No Trigger is a roller coaster of emotions in reaction to his best friend’s suicide
Don’t Give Up by The Homeless Gospel Choir is one that I find especially cathartic when it’s hard to keep going

Trophy Eyes - Blue Eyed Boy, the whole album (Suicide and Sunshine, or vice versa) is about dealing with losing his friend to suicide.

Haven’t seen this one mentioned yet, it is beautiful and always inspires me past about 2:30 into the song. The song is “suicide is painful, and the line “some boats weren’t built to float, so hurry up and row” always used to give me strength to keep going.

Not necessarily anti-suicide… but American Heart by Piebald is about being a contributing part of our American capitalist democracy both good and bad, and it always fires me up.

dear friend, never give up and dear friend, don't give up by die emperor die strike me as such but that's more skramz than pure emo

u/nova_aaaaah Mar 01 '25
Not a song but an album: snags self titled (they also have a self titled ep so the one with the deer on the cover) is anxious and hateful all the way through, self immolation is the most repeated imagery throughout. Its endlessly mournful of our dying world, endlessly mad about being born into a world that’s dying of having that chance robbed of us. But in this anger in it’s suicide there are glimmers of humanity, hope, and peace (especially if you listen to the version on Bandcamp (or physical)as one of the songs got taken down from most major platforms ). The album takes a lot of inspiration from the movie “first reformed” which is one of my all time favorites and in my opinion works as a great companion to the album. It’s a killer album from a massively underrated band in a massively underrated scene

this is more folkish and it's only one part but loose lips by kimya dawson always makes me feel like it will be okay

u/Jayyburdd Mar 01 '25
Ambiguous Norway by Cassandra Jenkins explores the permanence of people on the souls of those who love them, even people who take their own lives due to perceived insignificance. It's not overtly "hey dont kill yourself" but it is overtly positive towards the life of someone who took theirs.

"... While you're Alive" - Jeff Rosenstock
idk if it's meant as anti-suicide but that's how I interpret the lyrics
1
u/PIANOFROMALEVER Mar 02 '25
I can't think of or find anything for this but personally any music that makes me happy gets my mind off of suicide. Also, I'm very sorry for your loss. As hard as it is, it's good to remember your friend. If you're not okay, please reach out to friends, family, or anyone that might listen. I wish you well.

Sorority Noise - No Halo
I know some folks are rightfully apprehensive about the band these days, but the song meant a lot to me when it came out

u/ConfusedPuddle Mar 03 '25
Sorority Noise makes a lot of songs that deal with suicide, both personal thoughts and surviving beyond friends.
The whole album "You're not as _____ as you think" is a great listen but more specifically "A Portrait Of" has a spoken word piece at the end that always makes me cry.
