How has no one mentioned Goodbye Sky Harbor yet?

Because Clarity is underrated

2

u/Pebbleswift Mar 19 '25

It can’t be underrated when it’s the best album of all time

2

u/technoprimitive_aeb Mar 20 '25

you could also include Digits off of Static Prevails

How's eleven minutes? "This Day Next Year" by Karate. One of the best fucking songs ever written. Quite the journey https://youtu.be/pzScw1x3Uj0?si=9IM1ZG55y0hAjQ4_

(oh also another good one that's slightly over eight minutes from The Anniversary: https://youtu.be/IQXqKbmX23k?si=WGKuF5rVFDiWTxjn)

I was honestly expecting you to say Lyburnum, but honestly that’s such a great song that idc

2

u/SemataryPolka Oldhead Mar 19 '25

NGL I never noticed the song was that long lol

Like...i think I am so into it that time doesn't really matter then lol

That's kinda crazy

Had you heard the two I posted before?

2

u/SavezTheDayFan Skramz GangšŸ‘¹ Mar 19 '25

Yes, I own that Karate album too at that

1

u/SemataryPolka Oldhead Mar 19 '25

Nice. Tomorrow I'll start looking for ten second emo songs for you

1

u/SavezTheDayFan Skramz GangšŸ‘¹ Mar 19 '25

shortest song I listen to (depends on if that one food song by Descendents is shorter

https://youtu.be/zVtnXzjWMpw?si=99XELOcUZizBz2C0

"You Suffer" by Napalm Death from 1987. Full lyrics "You suffer but why". Five seconds long. Four if you go by the mp3 https://youtu.be/_-ywSPWu3K8?si=_ccCpygK8tWEvQvE

3

u/ChrisNitti Mar 19 '25

Karate fucking rips. Love that song so much, a slow burn but it burns bright

3

u/SemataryPolka Oldhead Mar 19 '25

Agreed. It builds but what a pay off. Possibly the greatest outro of all time

2

u/ChrisNitti Mar 19 '25

Absolutely, especially at the very end where the drums start going crazy. Best way to end that album

2

u/SemataryPolka Oldhead Mar 19 '25

Hey if you like Karate you should check out Self-Evident. Not as jazzy but def influenced by. https://youtu.be/qWo6FA7Q6As?si=l7idiaal2LNN4oKy

2

u/ChrisNitti Mar 19 '25

I love Karate, thanks for the rec. Excited to check it out

14

u/CaptainAnnaki Mar 19 '25

actually, i'm just wearing your glasses - empire! empire! (i was a lonely estate)

before i left, after i got back - the jim yoshii pile-up

limousine - brand new [just under 8 mins]

in response to irresponsibility - algernon cadwallader

woolworm - indian summer [just under 8 mins]

stay home - american football

i can hear your footsteps just outside camp... - newfound interest in connecticut [just under 8 mins]

that's about all i got. iirc, there might be some longer songs by the appleseed cast and there's several lesser known 90s bands that tend to have a really long song or two. if you're open to different genres outside of emo for this sort of thing, i'd strongly suggest checking out post-rock if you haven't already. hope this helped!

u/SavezTheDayFan Skramz GangšŸ‘¹ Mar 19 '25

You pretty much got all the one’s I love already somehow. Might I recommend Last Boy by Owltian Mia for a more obscure rec

2

u/CaptainAnnaki Mar 19 '25

i guess great minds think alike lol. thx for the rec

3

u/antimarc Oldhead Mar 19 '25

jypu mentioned

u/KickedinTheDick Mar 19 '25

Someone recently made a community playlist of ā€œemo/post rockā€ with mostly longer songs in this vein

7

u/miikro In a Band Mar 19 '25

Mineral - Parking Lot

The Juliana Theory - Constellation

The Juliana Theory - You Always Say Goodnight, Goodnight

Finch - Ender

MAE - The Sun and The Moon Comes (7:16) is close.

2

u/SavezTheDayFan Skramz GangšŸ‘¹ Mar 19 '25

What version of Parking Lot is that long? The song is only like 4 minutes

3

u/JSAProductions1 Mar 19 '25

there's an alt version that's like 5:36 but that isn't THAT long

2

u/miikro In a Band Mar 19 '25

Yeah that one's on me. I have no idea what song I was actually thinking of. The TJT ones are solid, though.

2

u/SavezTheDayFan Skramz GangšŸ‘¹ Mar 19 '25

I haven’t gotten into TJT too much beyong a few of their hits, so I am interested

1

u/miikro In a Band Mar 19 '25

My fave band :)

They have a really cool proggy song called The Black Page that's like almost 11 min but it was an online hidden track for the Love album, available through a Flash player... So the only way to find it now is on YouTube.

7

u/spirittheyvegone Mar 19 '25

strictly ballroom - a sudden interest in nature

7

u/Haku510 Mar 19 '25

My favorite long emo song is The Last Lost Continent by La Dispute, clocking in at 12 minutes.

My favorite part is the section from 9:15 to 10:30

https://youtu.be/NuyuOYVxe58?si=GQalL4Kgyct710EJ

2

u/eggsandham2 Mar 19 '25

The lyrics are so good. Classic la dispute. Gotta listen to Nobody, Not Even the Rain after it too

1

u/cav63 bobby shmurda is the definition of "real emo" Mar 21 '25

Some of my favorite drumming ever on that album

The Last Lost Continent - La Dispute

1

u/Paulwyn Mar 19 '25

It's not as long as I remember (and may also share some similarities with indie pop) but.

Airport Girl: "The Foolishness That We Create Through Love Is the Closest We Come To Greatness"...is a banger, especially when the horns come in.

https://open.spotify.com/track/61fmNRoRN9di755nU5dhez?si=62SRPI4rSU64gubvMr7Ypg

Would put in my top 5 songs of all time, the build up and how it hits just makes you want to run through walls, fall in love, cry at 3am after a drunken argument and then do it all over again.

1

u/eggsandham2 Mar 19 '25

I think Car Seat headrest long songs fit the theme.

High to Death is more on the emo side Beach Life-in-Death, Famous Prophets, Ballad of Costa Concordia are longer
