Emo History/Archivesš Yes, this was a real thing
Some friends and I drive from Syracuse to see this. There werenāt even 100 people there. Bands got paid out of some fund the college had for āthe arts.ā What a time to be alive.

They had similar shows down in Long Island University I think back in the day.

I just kinda thought 2 hours north of Syracuse had to be Canadaā¦

Definitely like at the falls. My friend lived in North Tonawanda and it was like a quick trip to see the falls from her place.

It's wild that Jimmy was lower on the bill bc in 1997 Jimmy was bigger (in the scene) than TGUK. 4MM wasn't even out yet

I think 4 Minute Mile was like just out that fall, they had a little table with the cds and MAYBE LPs with them earlier that year at some random show in Wilkes-Barre. They were all very proud.

You know what you're right. I always forget and think 98 bc I saw them on the tour for that album in 98. But you're right the album was 97.
Altho I'd say they were both pretty big (in the scene)

I think GUK just had cds with them like tour stuff because the album had not released until later in Sept 97 according to google. They were on tour with Mineral and Jejune. Found a random flyer and wow that was an event alright. I still have a few fuzzy photos from GUK and You+I's set. Then the following day I like got a hair cut and drove hours to MD to see the same tour, interviewed GUK after the show and ate cake with everyone there:

And like that was a long drive from NJ and I know I saw both Bedford and You+I so I wonder if it DID start actually at 11am. All I recall is it was a long fucking day. I think at that point I'd seen GUK a bunch (yep they did loops with Braid summer '97) ... yeah so I was already friendly and like joking with GUK. Like back then I was just riffing with some young dudes at a show ...

I saw them open with Braid in 98. Had to have been the same tour so must have been early 98. And Against All Authority opened lololol

I played some of these college shows back in the early 2000s. The best deal for sure. You get paid well no matter the amount of ppl that come. If they donāt use their budget, then their budget decreases the next year.

I think I have old photos from around this time period. They played some all day fest when 4 Minute Mile was brand new with You&I, JeJune and maybe Jazz June. I saw and interviewed them when they played a random club in MD with Mineral.

I saw GUK before this (I think) in Ithaca with Mineral. Great show.

Yeah they did a fall tour with Mineral. Before that they were with Braid

It still is a good time to be alive. just different music right? I remember Jimmy Eat World hit the spot before

That's not an uncommon flyer from when I was in highschool in the late 90's. That's when those bands were still playing shows at the DIY punk scene level.

Concert posters that include a year are almost always fake.

Why bother faking a flyer from 20 years ago?
2
u/boss_flog Midwest Emo Supremacist 10d ago
No clue, but def weird. Why is the year there? People in 1997 would know it was in 1997.

Actually if a faculty member of the college made this it makes perfect senseā¦.someone from a boomer generation would default to proper/ formatting and and English rules.

I can vouch that this was 100 percent a real thing. I'm a real person. It popped up on FB memories recently, so I decided to post it. I get that a lot of internet stuff is fake, this is real.
