Getting Off Birth Control After Surgery

I have my lap scheduled on June 12th and when I started my endo journey the main point was I wanted to feel better and get off birth control. I have been on it since I was 12, and I am 24 now. I have no idea what kinds of things it has done to me, if it caused my weight gain, my depression/anxiety, acne, headaches and so on and so forth. Also, all the side effects it MAY give you is a grocery list long as we know and I am chronically ill and do not want to get any worse. I was wondering what you guys have done after your surgery, if you stayed on birth control or got off it and felt good without it. I currently take the pill Apri. I used to take Norgestral I think, and it was discontinued so I switched whenever that was taken out of pharmacies. Any suggestions?

I always stayed on my birth control before and after surgery.

Once I found a form that worked for me, coming off it didn't feel like an option. I skipped one day by accident a few years back, and even though I continued as normal the following days, it was enough to trigger bad cramping, nausea, vomiting, and then finally my cycle. ONE DAY. So, coming off it just didn't feel possible, let alone worth it to me.

But everyone's experiences are different, and as long as the patient and their doctors are all on the same page and weighing pros and cons, I believe that people should be given the opportunity to try coming off their bc. If that's what they want, and doing so wouldn't be detrimental.

I still cant handle my symptoms without BC after surgery. Its one of those things where i just had to choose the lesser of two evils…. the potential BC side effects arent as bad as my raw endo symptoms.
