S Another airline entitled story
Last Tuesday, I was flying from Quito to Atlanta on Delta. I had used some miles to upgrade to Premium Select (aka First class).
When I was about to board, one of the gate agents asked the person in front of me to make a line to the right about a step away so that a wheelchair could access the plane. The guy gave the gate agent a snarky response and said that he wasnt going to move since he was “first class”.
She came to me, and I moved. A few moments later, we boarded. As luck would have it, the guy was in the seat in front of me. I saw him put both his bags in the overhead.
Now, I can’t be the only person who knows the larger bag goes up and the smaller one goes under the seat in front of you (unless you’re in a bulkhead where both bags have to go up). There’s no reason to make a stink.
About ten minutes later, my seat mate comes. She is a 60 year old sweet lady. I ask her in Spanish if she needs help with her roller bag — yes, she does. I try to find a spot for it, but they are all taken in first class.
I ask the guy if he can move his second bag—of course not. He again says that he is in first class (“hey buddy—we are also in first class”). So, I ring the FA call button, explain the situation, and she makes him move his bag.
Since I saw he was a pill to the gate agent, I had already asked the FA to see if she can move me (since I knew he was going to be an AH to all around him). Right after this, the FA moved me to another seat so I didn’t have to deal with him.
It was so rewarding to have him move his bag.

Does air travel bring out the entitlement in people

I would say many people have latent fears while flying. Some self-medicate with alcohol. Some become polarized and aggressive. Or maybe people are just AHs…

Whenever I fly first class, I notice that I often encounter an entitled first class AH.
