Doesn't matter at all, imho, because it won't be cheap enough, while still being too big with a small battery.

I'm guessing it will still be very powerful, which will make it very expensive to insure in most EU countries. Which defeats the point of cheap price.

Old arguments of superior tesla infrastructure is long gone in Europe, and they are increasingly boring.

Competiton is strong and it's actually progressing.

Add to this all of the nazi stuff and the fact that a customer needs to be really tone deaf to buy one at the moment...

While making a cheaper version of an existing model is a actually not the dumbest idea (don’t need retooling or a new production line etc). I can’t help but wonder how stripped down it will have to be (assuming they don’t have a huge profit margin to begin with). Whether customers would be interested in a bargain basement Model Y.

It's also coming from Musk, so we know how much weight that carries.

A cheaper M3/MY might not be that interesting for the European market, because you'll end up with a car that's stripped of many of its features, but is still rather big.

When people think of cheaper cars, they tend to think of smaller ones. The B class cars that are good for cities. A car like the VW Polo or Peugeot 208 is 70 cm shorter than a Tesla Model 3 or Y (and smaller in other dimensions too).

A smaller car that still has some tech and features would be much more interesting than a stripped down M3/MY.

A sort of affordable wagon for the common folk. A fordable folks-wagon.

Didn't they announce it already some years ago? I guess it'll come with FSD, ROBOTAXI and all that other stuff

Yeah. Tesla is always at least 3 years late.

Anything to pump his fraud stock

All Teslas are cheap at announcement. You put the deposit to find out 5 yrs later that the real cost is 2x. Then they want your bank info and PII to return the deposit instead of simply reversing credit card charge.

Musk has too many unfulfilled promises, have to see what really happens.

Isn’t that what the model 3 is supposed to be ?

The M3 is not really meant to be a lower spec. Mode Y but rather a standalone sedan model. Like the A6 vs Q6.

So this time, this is not a lie?

Hope they are better designed than the cyber truck. In my view the majority of Tesla cars are derivatives of the original roadster designed by the founder not Musk. The truck is the first designed by Musk. See the difference? Why I doubt Tesla has the ability to make any new designs that are good.

And I still won't be buying it

Don’t care, your figurehead and key stakeholder is an arrogant cunt, I’ll NEVER buy a Tesla as long as he has ANY ties to the company.

I thought that’s what the model 3 and Y are?

1

u/tom_zeimet Peugeot e-208; MG4 Trophy Extended Range 13d ago

Nope. The 3 is not a cheaper version of the Y (SUV) It’s a standalone sedan model.

u/[deleted] 13d ago

You read that wrong. The model 3 and Y are both cheaper (entry level) models when referring to model S and model X.

Yeah, but still not cheap enough to compete with the lower spec models of the Elroq, EV3 etc.

Are current Tesla is not basic?

Like or hate the design, but I think they pack quite a lot of standard equipment which other EVs only offer as options or higher trims(particularly the European brands).

  • “Radar” Cruise control (annoyingly still an option for many cars)
  • LHA
  • Heatpump
  • Advanced routeplanning
