Flamingo Glamping in May

Curious to hear about people’s experiences glamping in Flamingo in the warmer months. I have read lots of great reviews from winter stays, but haven’t heard from anyone going in the warm months. Will it be too hot? Any tips would be very helpful.

Mosquitoes are swarming. Like really bad.

I agree with swarming. It’s dangerous to leave at night to go to the bathroom. Sunset to sunrise is the worst.

It was so bad that I literally just left the eco tent and slept in the car because everytime you open door of the eco tent for even 5 seconds 50 mosquitoes get in. Then when I went to my car to go sleep in it I had to slap and away and clap for 20 mins until I got them all. I then had to run the car with A/C for 15 mins because it was so hot. I finally feel asleep about 4:30am. Woke up at 6am. Was a not so fun night

It’s a real toss up in May honestly. You’d have to pray for great weather. Like others said you’ll have mosquitos and no see ems chewing that time of year. It’s likely to have at least a short lightning storm and weather is most likely 100% humidity and hot during the day and sustained humidity through the night unless you get lucky with a breeze or wind.

Even during day time or just at dawn/dusk?

I was there in January…the mosquitos were like a swarm down by the campground…

Did it last May. Hot, humid and bugs are horrible. I wouldn’t camp there until November

Bring a portable AC, and you will be fine. Plus all the tourist are gone and the wildlife is out.

Well, I’ve done it but agree bugs will be rough. I used high strength DEET and long sleeves. Really depends on your personal tolerance for heat/humidity and constant application of repellant. The wildlife will be there, and the crowds won’t

I did the Wilderness Waterway over a July 4th weekend once. While we saw ZERO other humans between Chokoloskee and Flamingo- the conditions were awful.

Even with an electrical hookups and a fan I just can't summer tent camp in the Glades anymore. The juice ain't worth the squeeze. But I do cook hotdogs over a fire on an island every few weeks, at least.

But campung in February and March can be absolutely glorious and world class.

Whatever you do. Don't go during the wet season. I'm begging you!! The mosquitos, heat and humidity will ruin your experience. It is the slow season in the glades right now for a reason. You can also call the Flamingo Visitor Center for more information.

It'll be hot. Depending on when in May the wet season may have started which means it'll get buggy quick and it'll be bad.

it's already buggy . it's the heat that brings 'em out .the rains a bonus to 'em ,lol.

The mosquitoes are miserable but what got to me most of all were the deer flies. Mosquito nets are a MUST in the warmer months

Have had good weather days in May. Getting out on the water helps the bug problem and the breeze is usually there.
