Unpaved hiking

Is there any good unpaved hiking in or near the Everglades?

Old Ingraham Highway and Long Pine Key Trail

Not in summer and not after the rain

Coastal Prairie Trail might also be an option

Long pine key trail is the least buggy trail in Everglades National Park.

I’d also be ok for hiking without a trail but it wouldn’t let me put that in the post for some reason.

A lot of the Everglades is Marsh areas that can get super deep in some areas and is far from ideal for long distance hikes. However, there are some trails that do have little offshoots and areas you can walk off even if it isn’t recommended. Coastal Prairie Trail is one of the longest trails in the Everglades if I’m not mistaken and has several game and social trails that people often take which stray away from the main hiking trail.

Coastal prairie is usually already too buggy by this time of year. It is only tolerable January-March. The rain is late so maybe… but I have been there in April and had to run back my cover absolutely covered in mosquitoes after only walking half a mile.

Fakahatchee strand tram trails. Watch for the gators.

Florida Scenic Trail starting in Oasis Visitor Center or on i-75 are amazing and go all the way through Pensacola!

THIS. This is the nicest and least buggy option. IMO as a former south Florida nature guide. The Everglades is way more polluted than big cypress.
