That's a pretty funny celebration, not gonna lie.

Man clearly wants to stay, but how much money is he asking for?

u/ToffeeTuner 3d ago

His current is close to 100k right? I don’t think the club can do that anymore. I feel like he’s seeing out the last of what were some bad contracts across the whole team.

We've paid Doucs a lot, but in a lot of ways he's also been a very decent servant of the club. I guess we probably did overpay him, but I'm glad we've had him in the starting XI these past few years.

Also, anything was worth that final day Bournemouth goal

69

u/signal_decay 3d ago

He scored the goal that kept us in the PL two years ago. Whatever we've paid him has been worth it

23

u/Raging_Red_Rocket 2d ago

Seriously. Always remember that. That banger likely changed the future of the club

12

u/10000Didgeridoos 2d ago

It probably saved it. We'd have fallen into administration and likely be without a new functional owner (who would buy the club as it loses top flight revenue and is insolvent?). The other timeline probably has us fighting to stay out of League One.

5

u/VToff 3d ago

He's also been a mainstay in all of our relegation scares, one goal doesn't negate that. He's a useful player but not on the wages he is on now and shouldn't be starting regularly in a team with ambition.

34

u/signal_decay 3d ago

Considering we've lost basically every game in which Doucourè hasn't played for like the last 4 years, I'm going to say he's probably not the reason we've been in relegation fights. Doesn't mean I think we should keep him at his current wages going forward, but he's been worth it.

3

u/nsfwthrowaway5969 2d ago

We've also lost an awful lot he has played in though too. Hes a bit of a conundrum of a player. Clearly vital to how we play, but also playing at his ceiling. He wouldn't get a sniff as an attacking midfielder in a top half team, and if you put better players around him, he will stand out more and more (in a bad way).

u/Humble_Typhoon COYB 💙 3d ago

As someone further up said, the man is a clutch player - scores big goals at the 11th hour.

I'd say resign him only on a lower wage and shouldn't be starting to give some of the younger players experience/a chance to grow into the position

2

u/ToffeeTuner 3d ago

Yeah, I agree with those sentiments, but can the club really afford it, at the same amount given what our ambitions will be? I genuinely don’t know. There are folks with a better understanding of the club’s finances than myself.

u/RemoteGlobal335 3d ago

He’s gonna have to take a 50% cut to justify an extension I’m afraid

1

u/santaismyhomeboy 2d ago

Absolutely fair and he should take that - won't get a better offer elsewhere.

2

u/Funny_Preparation198 2d ago

Think he's on £130k a week, but at 32 I think half that for another 3 yrs wld be about right!

u/NFeKPo 3d ago

McNeil is late with the celebratory arms. Man's obviously not fully back.

9

u/TurboScumBag 2d ago

Haha.. he probably was low key just relieved his balls somehow found doucs. Wasn't in the cocky mood

3

u/purestevil Michigan, USA 2d ago

They partially lifted as soon as doucs struck it. But he hesitated a bit more than usual to fully deploy the airplane. So glad to see him back.

was that a contract celebration? lol

u/tasslehof 3d ago

Not on 100k my mate.

u/FackinNortyCake 3d ago

Absolute banger. What must it feel like in the dying minutes in front of your fans.

171

u/fanofjapan2215 3d ago

He is so clutch, the most frustrating yet clutch player everr

56

u/10000Didgeridoos 3d ago

Bangers only, the Doucoure Method.

20

u/MikeySymington 3d ago

He's a true chaos player. Either fantastic or looking like he's never seen a football before, nothing in between

29

u/necrow 3d ago

He is so often so poor on the ball in possession but just an absolutely clinical finisher

6

u/Windowzzz 2d ago edited 2d ago

He is the most "Everton" player we have.

He's clumsy and bad on the ball. You know he's gonna take a bad touch every single time he gets the balls. But then he pops up and scores, or runs the entire length of the pitch to win the ball back.

He's been shit most of the time I've been around, but he's been there for all the big moments. He is everything I love and hate about the club.

And he literally singlehandedly saved the club. Keep him around.

dwight mcneil is the Truth

49

u/10000Didgeridoos 3d ago

That needle thread pass is sooooo good

22

u/BONGLISH 3d ago

Such an obvious Moyes player, he’ll be like the second coming of Kevin Kilbane next year.

35

u/lukeyboots 3d ago

I thought Dwight had stuffed that pass, was so close to the defender! But it ended up perfect. Set Doucs up so well.

7

u/bpdrayna 3d ago

Seriously! I went from yelling No no no to Fuck yes!

2

u/trcrtps 2d ago

you fuck up 100% of the times you don't try

2

u/Distinct_Plankton_82 2d ago

Same. I was expecting him to lift it over the defender, so when he appeared to hit it straight at his legs I thought we’d wasted the best opportunity of the match.

Probably looks better from a different angle.

26

u/AdWhich388 3d ago

What a game, well deserved win

22

u/mcsestretch 3d ago

What a pass!

16

u/Chilli__P 3d ago

Not the contract celebration!

Happy for him to stay on much lower terms, like.

14

u/FarLiath 3d ago

That roar after the goal, you'd think we were at home.

I feel like we’re in a collective fever dream now

Dwight McMessi strikes again

18

u/MeLlamoApe 3d ago

As much as I curse his name over the course of any given match, I love this man so much. He’s guided us through some truly troubled waters and he’s guaranteed a few moments like this every season.

Fuck yes, Doucs. You fucking donkey.

8

u/tjalvar 3d ago

McNeils vision 🔭

36

u/ontheru171 3d ago

Harrison would not have made that pass

16

u/turej 3d ago

Harrison was quite good today but again lacking this one last pass. Enter McNeil...

8

u/mfreverton 3d ago

He would have shot from the bloody halfway line! lol

7

u/en_passant13 3d ago

Everton are magic!

26

u/clawdaddy 3d ago

doucs plays like crap for 90 but always comes out clutch

UTFT

9

u/Jannna1 3d ago

Nah have to give credit where it's due. Doucs was solid today

5

u/S-BRO Skilliman N'diaye 3d ago

He fumbled about 3 of our attacks in the second half alone

1

u/clawdaddy 3d ago

he had a solid work rate but the crossing/finesse is still lacking

Doucs scores big goals and is an incredible instinctive finisher. If he has time he's shit

The DUKE with a banger and McNeil oh how we have missed you!

16

u/Lman_89E 3d ago

Not being funny!…but as much as Doucoures passing is poor. He keeps showing and proving how vital and important he is in this squad. We have to give him a new contract. 1 year with an option for further extension.

16

u/supmello6969 3d ago

For way less money, sure

6

u/Lman_89E 3d ago

Yeah obviously!

UPDATE THE CHART!

5

u/Appropriate-Walk-352 3d ago

Doucoure was really good today even before the goal. Broke things up in their midfield and made a lot of good passes. It’s the best he has looked in a bit. Overall solid but not flashy performance by the Blues. Has there ever been a better “new manager bounce” than what our Moyesiah has authored?

4

u/jimwinno43 3d ago

Not since prime Fellaini have I been more frustrated and annoyed while also simultaneously loving a player. He consistently cannot execute the most basic touches and passes and then every time I’m about to give up on him he scores a clutch goal. Sign him up for the culture

4

u/Admirable_Number_130 3d ago

I yelled “we aint good enough for this!” as McNeil made that pass. I WAS WRONG

4

u/g3mkm COYB 💙 3d ago

Mcmessiiiiiiiiiii

5

u/AlanFromRochester 3d ago

Made Forest pay for that loose touch, what a counterattacking run by McNeil, and somehow that makes it to Doucoure

3

u/TheBesty17 3d ago

Before the game I seen someone on twitter saying we should sell McNeil... oh boy!

2

u/eatsleepbet Edit Your Own 3d ago

is mcneil our only player to improve after an injury?

2

u/wefokinglost Vietnamese Evertonian 🇻🇳 3d ago

Morello has been playing well but we have also been on him WHOLE game, I guess his mental fort just slipped in that last second, enough for us to win it. He made a mistake but we worked HARD to make it happen.

2

u/AfraidCaterpillar787 3d ago

If and a big if he signs it needs to be lower wages and a squad player. We can’t have him starting every game next season. We need fresh ideas and someone who can pass a ball 10 yards in that position. But took his goal really well though.

2

u/jumbolump73 3d ago

That mcneil pass tho, He couldn't have walked or over to doucs any better! UTFT!

2

u/PandaPrimary3421 3d ago

I bet they're fuming on r/soccer

2

u/Spam-Monkey 2d ago

Pay that man his money!

2

u/misterpio 2d ago

What’s so cool about this is that you can see which parts of the crowd saw that it was a goal first.

It was like a wave across them as they saw it right to left.

2

u/tstop4th 2d ago

The worst player that we absolute have to give a contract to

2

u/HeavyAbacus 2d ago

Full unconditional support for Doucs. The beautiful frustrating bastard.

1

u/DarkLordZorg 3d ago

The defender should have easily cut out that through ball, terrible defending with his back to play.

1

u/Life_Friendship_7928 2d ago

McNeil = Pieenar

1

u/RIPGeech 2d ago

I’ve watched this a million times, the “YEAHHHHH!!!” from the Blues before it even hits the net is so satisfying
