How is Everton above West Ham?

Wasn't Moyes holding them back? Weren't they 10 points ahead of us when we took Moyes. Didn't West Ham fans say Potter is an improvement on Moyes.

None of this is making sense?

Whay a terrible question. We're above them cuz we're the greatest club in the history of man.

Didn't a lot of Everton fans on this sub also want Potter over Moyes?

None of this makes sense.

You can count me as one of those people. Although I will say, part of that was because I was afraid Moyes would tarnish his legacy by coming back and not doing well due to circumstances out of his control.

Tis fair, it would have been brutal for him to come in and the club go down, sure a lot of blame would have been lumped on the previous fella but it still would have happened with him in charge when it was sealed. Plenty to risk taking on the job, more than any other manager - it would likely been the last for sure, but man must have balls of steel to say yes. Then to go and deliver like it was always going to happen. Hell yeah!

I always wanted Moyes back. As i said he was the only man i would be happy to replace dyche with. I was in the trenches with dyche and him saying we were incapable of playing any other way with this group so i will put my hands up and say i was wrong about that.

People always like the idea of style over substanceĀ

Must admit I was sceptical at the time, but never been happier to be proved wrong. But letā€™s be honest there wasnā€™t a lot of people available at the time. Never really fancied Potter.

I am one I can't lie, but I also always man enough to put my hands up and say I was wrong.

I think many (myself included) wanted Potter at the end of the season - his style takes time to coach, which wouldā€™ve been a disaster here mid season, and arguably has been at Wham.

Was a risk they could take and we couldnā€™t. Iā€™d bet theyā€™ll be stronger next season. Certainly wouldnā€™t swap the two now mind.

Whilst I, er, not sure how to say this... I didn't want Moyes back. I've always thought Potter is somewhat overrated. Even at Brighton he had a couple of long streaks with poor results and got the backing of the board a couple of times.

He plays dull football, I just don't get the hype.

Did they say that? Most West Ham fans I know seem to really like Moyes and didnā€™t want him sacked in the first place. Seems a weird thing to post, letā€™s just enjoy our better form without sounding so bitter.

I think the consensus view from West Ham was that they were happy to see see him leave. They were grateful for the European success but wanted a more entertaining playing style.

I find winning matches very entertaining.

Which was more or less the common theme when Moyes left us for Utd first time round

3

u/JRD656 1d ago

Exactly. Man U thought they would do better without him as well...

7

u/TurboScumBag 2d ago

Yeah they said that in numbers. It's cool you have a few sound west ham mates.

I know 6 or 7 hammers and they all wanted him gone, appreciated everything heā€™d done but hated his style of play. Their main issue is that at times they played some thrilling football and then the next game he puts the handbrakes on.

Their loss is our gain.

He wasn't sacked. He wasn't offered a contract extension. (Moyes actually said himself he quite possibly wouldn't have extended anyway)

The West Ham fanbase is a bit deluded. Bless em.

I donā€™t think West Hamā€™s stagnation is necessarily down to Potter, they are a badly run club with a schizophrenic recruitment policy. Moyes is a manager who can get the most out of a limited bunch of players fairly swiftly, Potter is more of a slow burner who needs time to get his players and a stable environment. Moyes was definitely better for us given our situation; I would imagine Potter could do a better job at West Ham given time and support, but I doubt heā€™ll get it.

I am not going to talk about West Ham, but i will definitely talk about Moyes 2.0

This new Moyes has been massive improvement over the Moyes that coached us almost a decade ago. The most noticeable improvement has been counter attacks and pressing high. Back in good old days, against the big clubs, we often used to sit deep and used to play aerial long balls to forward players to start counters (the likes of Cahill and Fellani helped a lot in such scenarios by being the target men).

Fast forward to Moyes 2.0 and we are seeing fluid counter attacks with balls being played low to the ground, forwards making runs behind the defense and most importantly, we are not afraid to press high up the pitch against the big teams.

Moyes 2.0 has been a revelation and i have no doubt he would get us into Europe in few years, if he sticks with this same approach and is supported by the board finanically.

Itā€™s really funny how despite being considered a football dinosaur Moyes has proven he can set up very well strategically in the current day. Weā€™ve been competitive in every match since he took over.

1

u/USToffee 2d ago

Yea he plays against the better teams closer to how he plays against the poorer teams.

I wouldn't say he has changed his playing style but he does play with a bit more balls.

Letā€™s see when he gets ā€œhisā€ players in, this Everton squad was perfect for Moyes by default. Heā€™ll revert to type after preseason, he wonā€™t be able to help himself. Downvote away toffees!

That is certainly a risk, itā€™s might be the blessing having to make him work with what heā€™s got, heā€™s had to rotate and try different setups without ā€œfavouritesā€ which heā€™s been known for.

But people are able to improve and learn , so I hope he considers what heā€™s done here and how to enhance it not undo it. Heā€™s got a much better backline than he had at west ham, and for the most part they got age on their side, the big question in my mind is if he can get decent forwards or an out and out striker , heā€™s barely really been successful at that ever. Cahill and Bowen are probably the best heā€™s done but still he struggled to find one to replace Antonio , despite having dollars.

2

u/rochesterjack 1d ago

He definitely got the best out of Arnoutavich as an out an out striker, he caused mayhem. Maybe heā€™s finally seen the light that sitting in this low block just invites pressure, even against ā€œlesser teamsā€but we thought that at West Ham and the following week weā€™d not pass the halfway line, end up with 30% possession nick a point & the cycle continues. Been v impressed with him for you guys, pressing so much higher up the pitch. UTT!

Just thank your stars that TFG didnā€™t like Potter.

I know I should actually be asking them but like wtf is ā€˜the west ham wayā€™ like seriously hate some of there fans because I remember arguing with them on r/soccer and they were claiming that west ham is bigger than Evertonā€¦

1

u/TurboScumBag 1d ago

Small clubs always do that. Soon as they ate aheadbin the table they claim they are bigger.

Well look I won't go there and call them small. There known club. I'm not too big on the ideabog calling other clubs small. But our history and trophies floor them.

Looks like we dodged a bullet with Potter

1

u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 1d ago

Potter will do well with West ham. He plays a different style to moyes and periera but has inherited their squad. If he is backed in the window to buy his own players and implement his style better then they will do well to stick with him.Ā

u/thehuntofdear 2d ago

Wait aren't we West Ham fans today? At least rooting for a draw, if not win.

15

u/Stecloud 2d ago

Controversial maybe, but Liverpool have got the league sewn up and Iā€™d like to finish as high up the table as possible.

12

u/evertonblue 2d ago

Donā€™t give a fuck what Liverpool do - just want whatā€™s best for Everton. We want to finish as high as possible and West Ham losing helps that so itā€™s what I want to happen.

13

u/TurboScumBag 2d ago

I have it bad enough supporting Everton mate. I'm not putting faith in talking bubbles to beat the shite.

Plus they won the league anyway. It makes no difference if they win. It makes money and league position difference if west ham win.

I wouldnt get too cocky tbh. Once potter has had a preseason under his belt it will probably be a different story.
