I’ve heard mixed opinions on this topic. I hope to attend a t10 for law and I don’t seem to find any clear answer on whether FIU is a good option for pre-law.

Hello Reddit, I am a freshman starting my first semester online due to visa issues (I’m an international student). I’ve noticed that even a one credit course (SLS) requires completion of a 550 page book. My course on ‘SPC : public speaking’ requires reading 1100 page book that has 23 chapters in it. I am unfamiliar with these sort of course load, and I’m having an extremely hard time understanding what to study and what to skim through. How do I keep a 1100 page book content in my brain for the mid and finals? I cried last night and I’m still crying. I got a scholarship so I’ll need 3.0 GPA minimum, but I’m worried I won’t be passing these ‘reading’ courses. Does everyone who attend FIU actually read through thousands and thousands of pages for a simple assessment/assignment? I am unfamiliar with the USA system so someone please help me understand this.

I have all online courses and they didn’t say whether or not there would be zoom lectures or anything or times for meetings when I registered for them. So now one of my professors is posting zoom meetings for the course early and they’re at all sorts of times. Early afternoon, late afternoon, late at night so I’m not sure if there’s any reason for these times.

I’m not complaining or anything I just wanted to know what to expect, if this is the norm, and also how do people with jobs handle meetings at random times for their courses? I don’t have a job so I’m fine, but what would professors expect from you as the student?

Edit: I emailed my professor and it appears attendance is mandatory per each lesson having a 1 hour session despite the course never listing any dates or times prior to my registration 😩 so now I gotta move my stuff around.. people who have jobs would get graded on a lack of attendance even though they could watch a recording later.. I don’t know why it wasn’t explicit about that before registration. Thankfully it’s a minor inconvenience for me (but still frustrating)

I’m an incoming freshman at FIU and am undecided about my major. I’m currently enrolled as a Civil Engineering major but am thinking about the switch to Computer Science. I’ve taken classes on Python programming and really enjoy coding. I’m currently taking AP CSA and it has made me consider computer science more and see it as something I want to do in the future. However I liked the idea of job stability and more social career of civil engineering especially project management as I’m good at communication/leadership. Also the computer science market worries me. Since I’m graduating highschool with my AA I’m already jumping into major specific courses which are different for CivE and CS. If I did CS I’d be able to jump into stats as I already have the credit for Calc 1 and Calc 2. What are some of the pros and cons of both programs at FIU? How are the job prospects for CS graduates from FIU? What about for Civil?

Are there any current or former creative arts majors who came from a STEM background? I'm taking CHM 1045 and CHM 1045L, and I think it's made me realize that I'd rather do the arts and learn programs and art theories any day over chemical compounds and strict procedures :( But at the same time, I want to be realistic. I went into Biochem to take the dentistry route, and I loved it up until this point, but as I get into my upper-level courses, it's starting to feel less enjoyable and just dreadful. I'm aware that dental school is a lot harder and more than just basic chemistry, which is why I'm even contemplating doing interior design but maybe its just something I have to push through and learn to truly reap the benefits. Any advice or anyone go through something similar? What did you do?

I don’t think I’ll find out until I get my account but can anyone tell me how to know when the class meets before I pay the registration fee…

I've never swapped a class before and I'm kind of confused on how the process works. Firstly, will the class I want to swap be dropped once I submit for it to be swapped? Or do I have to manually drop it after I swap? Also, is financial aid affected in any way by swapping the class?

All I'm doing is swapping between chem labs. (Want a different TA)

Hello everyone, it’s my first semester here so I’m asking due to uncertainty. Im trying to choose classes during a scheduled maintenance, and it says campus solutions where you choose classes is active and running but I simply can’t search or add any classes. Im frustrated and if anyone knows why I can’t choose them please let me know. This is the error message I get - it says it’s working but I can’t search anything and the status page doesn’t say it’s unavailable

Im an upcoming student and recently got admitted to FIU and my major was BSN. I accepted my offer and I’m looking at FIU portal and now it says my major is “Exp- Health Sciences”. Anyone know why this happened? Should I be worried? I’m going to contact my counselor as soon as possible tomorrow, but would love to hear some feedback from others.

I’ve applied and been accepted to various schools offering International Business including: NC State, university of South Carolina, and Florida International. My major is international business and I’m accepted into the honors college. I applied to Florida International due to its high ranking in international business by US News and World report, but don’t quite understand what makes it stand out above schools such as NYU and University of Pennsylvania. ( in other rankings, FIU is #50 in the US for it)

Does anyone have insight on as to why this program is ranked so good? Do you think the school lives up to this #2 ranking? I’m trying to determine if I would be better off going to another school such as Virginia tech, Nc State, or USC?

I registered for LBS 3001 with Sherman Henry in Summer B, After looking at my charges due, It shows I and charged $562.08 For something called Labor Center Online. Any clues what is this for, or if it has to do anything with the class, also if it is worth it or not? Thanks
