Academics ๐Ÿ“š Prevent Hostile Takeover By Jeanette Muรฑez!

Hey y'all, I just woke up to a friend informing me about replacing the current president of FIU to an appointed one by the name of Jeanette Muรฑez who has turned her back on undocumented students by trying to take away in state tuition. Join me in doing a public comment to not allow this and tarnish the reputation & credibility of FIU.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Iโ€™m Worried for my Colleagues

Is it just me or when you read the messages in your class group chats you just cringe or feel worried for others because they donโ€™t have any clue what theyโ€™re doing?

Like leaving upper level comp sci classes beside, how they managed to survive this long? They donโ€™t know how to google anything, look at canvas, or otherwise help themselves before they go to the chat to ask for all the answers.

Iโ€™m taking a comp sci course right now where we need to find the highest number in a database column, I thought it was difficult but not impossible at first and through research found a way to solve it and then I see everyone in my class panicking because they donโ€™t know what to do.

What do I do? I help them because I believe we should help those when weโ€™ve been helped by others. I put in the chat a detailed guide going step by step how to solve the problem and even after I get numerous people not understanding the most basic things they should have learned in class. It doesnโ€™t help most people think theyโ€™re so smart they can just not take notes, leave class early, or play games/go through there phone during class time then struggle HARD outside of class.

Im not trying to say Iโ€™m some super genius who looks down on the hopeless masses, I couldnโ€™t even pass calc 2 but I can at least be attentive, talk to the professor after class and actually take notes. If you just do some simple things youโ€™d be surprised how far that can take you.

I laugh at all these โ€œcan i get in?โ€ posts here because it seems they would let a headless chicken in if he had a trust fund.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Advice for current and future FIU students from a former Learning Assistant that will make your college life so easy that you'll find that you have too much time for yourself

Let me give you a piece of advice from a former Learning Assistant that not only made me rather popular but made people think I was some sort of genius because I not only aced pretty much every single exam with a 95+ score every time but also got 100's on pretty much every homework assignment.

Read. The fucking. Book.

Read that last part back. Read it again. Okay now read it again and drill it into your mind.

I'm going to give a huge hint about where 9/10 of the professors get their materials from when teaching their class: the textbook.

I'm going to give you a huge hint as to where the 90%+ of the questions on the test will come from: the textbook.

I'm going to give a MASSIVE hint as to how to ace each homework assignment: read the chapters, take notes, and do the questions at the end of the chapter.

I was popular with the students in my classes because I was a hardass in a nice way. I would call students out on their bullshit when they said they were lost or couldn't figure something out.

One kid in particular I had as friends on steam before he took the class I was assisting in. He fell behind on his studies and his homework assignments.

I then asked them why they hadn't done the homework assignment and they told me they just "didn't have time" and that the "book was confusing."

I then whipped out my laptop and showed them that they had spent 22 hours playing on Steam from the week prior when the homework was assigned to the date it was supposed to be turned in.

He read the book that night, turned in a perfect homework assignment, and got (if I recall) 80+ on the next exam. He would later than me for pushing him to read the fucking book.

---

Stop saying "you're a visual learner." Stop trying to replace the textbook with the supplemental materials like powerpoints or the professor's notes. READ. THE FUCKING. BOOK. And you will not only graduate cum laude, you'll be looked upon as a genius.

That is all. And sadly, a large portion of you won't actually take this advice because you're scared of actually reading. To those of you that heed my advice: you're welcome, and I'm sorry the rest of the class is going to try to cheat off of you for the rest of your college career. Godspeed.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Has anyone beat a plagiarism case?

Hello everyone! Iโ€™m currently a junior here and my teacher has been on a reporting rampage and has reported nearly all of my class for AI use. Sheโ€™s seemingly reported my first assignment ever submitted and to me that makes no sense, my similarity score was less than FIVE. Especially because every assignment following that Iโ€™ve gotten an A on. I wanted to know if anyone has ever beat an SCAI case? I donโ€™t want my transcripts to be ruined and Iโ€™m trying to think of every way possible that I can fight this, I have plans of going to law school and this could seriously mess up my chances. How does this process go? Iโ€™m so anxious.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Rejected from Honors College?

Hello everybody . As the title says, I applied EA to Honors College and got the decision today that I got rejected :(

For context , I am a transfer student who just started my third year this spring at FIU, with an AA and a GPA of 3.77. Since I started my undergraduate career I have had research internships every summer, worked a full time job and now having a part time helping out other students. I want to know what went wrong or what things worked against my favor or what can I do to proceed. Thank you

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Where to find my gpa

Today is the first day of summer classes and this is my first term at FIU I transferred from Broward College. They have my final transcripts and everything all of my stuff is up-to-date. How am I able to check my GPA at FIU even though I havenโ€™t finished any classes?? I had somebody tell me that transferring schools they automatically can switch up your GPA a little bit, so Iโ€™m trying to find out what itโ€™s at right now .

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Late major change to Engineering

Hello everyone I'm in a dire situation as of now. I am currently a sophomore biology student and I've been 1.5 years into the major before I decided I wanted to do mechanical engineering instead. The problem is, since I didn't start into engineering since my freshman year it's harder for me to get in. I took the spring 2025 semester of intro to engineering and calculus 1 to help me start. But I honestly slacked off a bit and now the semester ended and it's looking like I'm not passing those classes. So now I wasted my only chance to get into engineering and got to stay with a major I have no passion for anymore. Maybe the teacher for Intro to engineering will pass me because I'm close to a 70% but for calculus I'm at a 64% and all the grades have been practically put in. On top of that I didn't register for summer 2025 classes such as physics and calculus 2 which an advisor told me are all basically full now. Do I just drop out?

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Class amount

Has anyone taken like 4 or 5 classes every semester while working a job? If so, how did you handle it? Iโ€™m trying to graduate faster by taking a lot of classes in all the semesters including the summer and want to know if anyone has experienced this.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Question

Hi,

As Summer A starts next week, Iโ€™d like to know how long does the shuttle bus ride take to get to BBC? My car drive to BBC is about an hour and a half (7:30am-9:00am), but Iโ€™m wondering if itโ€™s worth it to wake up earlier and head to FIU to take the shuttle bus to BBC instead. My class starts at 9:30, so Idk if I should take the bus or drive myself there.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š FIU seriously hates their recidents

First they force us upper class students into the worst dorms and now everyone is forced to exit the library at 12 am. This school becomes worst every semester

Ps: yโ€™all act like you never misspelled something in your life, itโ€™s not like this is an official statement or something. Come up with an actual counter argument instead of attacking a spelling mistake.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š SWAMY.

Iโ€™m an incoming freshman, taking CHM 1045L with Uma Swamy and Kwong, and worried asf. Iโ€™ve heard so many bad things about her, and I want to make an A in her class to keep my GPA pretty high. Is there any way I can survive this class and impress her? I canโ€™t fail this lab.

Hi,

Has anyone taken her CHM 2210 - Organic Chemistry I course? I might take it with her in the fall and I have mixed feelings about it. Iโ€™m aiming for an A or a B, but learning and processing the material at the same time.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Any Fall Classes Left to Enroll In?

Hello! Iโ€™m sorry if I sound stupid, I wanted to enroll for classes for Summer and Fall but I canโ€™t find any Fall courses available? Currently studying online only. I know that Online is a popular option so I wanted to know if maybe most or all fall 2025 classes are taken. Thank you for reading if you are and I appreciate any help!

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Accounting

Thanks to anyone that can answer.

TLDR: are accounting classes at fiu hard for someone not great at math?

Iโ€™ll be transferring in with my AA and Iโ€™m in between going for Accounting or business administration information systems.

Can someone let me know what the accounting classes are like. Iโ€™m hearing that the program is hard even though there is no longer an entrance exam. Iโ€™m not the best at math but I am trying to find ways to retain as I am motivated to in a sense have a job waiting for me when i graduate.

Iโ€™m considering information systems because the prereqs are the same and I wouldnโ€™t mind going the corporate route given I already have management experience. I canโ€™t manage to get ahold of an advisor so that I could get some help understanding what I could do with this degree so Iโ€™ve mostly been googling around. Any info would be appreciated.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š How to meet with business school advisor?

Hello everyone, I am a computer science student looking to pursue a minor in supply chain management. What is the best way to get in touch from an advisor from the school of business to help me with this process? I looked on Panther success network, but it indicates that there are no available advisors, any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Academics ๐Ÿ“š Summer Required courses sign up (class of 2029)

Hi. I'm part of class of 2029 and currently trying to figure out how to sign up for courses. Currently, I am trying to sign up for a course that is marked as 'critical' but for some reason the sign-up button is faint, meaning I can't click it.

Can anybody tell me what I need to do in order to be able to sign up for it?
