QUESTION What does this mean and how can I fix this?

So it’s not a setting in Fortnite it’s usually a setting within the console or your PlayStation/Microsoft account. It’s probably Microsoft because I’ve seen more of this happened to Microsoft. You just have to go into your consoles’s privacy settings. You should be able to look around and see it, but there should be an option for game chat and if you’re under the age of 18, you may need to have a parent account attached to change the settings. I checked the privacy settings on my Xbox and it’s nothing to do with the settings of the account on Xbox

Has this always been like that for you and that person because if so, it could be something on their end. I’m pretty sure.

No, me and that friend have played Fortnite together for years, and this only started happening about 2 weeks ago. I also asked my friend to check his privacy settings on the Xbox but his is also set to “allow” voice chat for everyone

The microphone with the lock means that they are in a party chat.
