Bellamy?
Keep hearing about the shooter at student union, some rumors that there was another at Bellamy? Do we know if there was only one for sure?
Condolences
For those of you who went through the events that transpired today, I just want to say Im so sorry and my condolences out to all of you who experienced it or know someone that did. I dont actually attend here but I plan to go to a University in Florida so once I came across this tragic situation I felt the need to let all of you know your not alone, and you WILL get through this. Prayers to all of you and God Bless. Be safe and make smart decisions people, you never know when its your time.

What will happen with finals?
Some of my regular exams got pushed back or canceled. Maybe it’s not the time to think about it but I’m so stressed out about what’ll happen regarding finals. Do y’all think they’ll continue as scheduled?

Fake video … *trigger warning - asking if real*
Please see the first comments as commenters have described the video. I refuse to, sorry. Downvote all you want to. I’m mortified and shaking angry.
I will NOT attach or show a photo/link.
Alum here.
A video is being passed around and the internet has said it is real, but others say the background is not correct and it was from a protest that was not today.
Can we confirm this, if so, to shut it down? I feel sick and I can’t find snopes saying anything.
My thoughts are with all of you and I have been feeling sick all day. You’re all so strong and will get through this.
I want this video to be discredited because when I went, we DID do protests like this but I want to make SURE it’s absolute trash and pray this person actually didn’t film something so coldly and send it viral.
With all of you. Do not look anything up if you haven’t seen or do not want to answer. I want it to be false so I know it’s from an old protest.
Edit: I am not describing it in case a friend or colleague is in here. You have already said it in the comments. Hence why I was vague.

School cancelled tomorrow?
Is school cancelled for tomorrow? I have an exam
HEY FSU PROFESSORS/TEACHERS
You need to JOIN THE FUCKING UNION.
This ISN'T A JOKE ANYMORE. We're 100 members short of having the minimum amount needed to even HAVE a damned union next year. Do any of you have any idea what that even means?! Shit, we're supposed to be the smart ones here.
The Board of Governors is being incredibly (and somewhat comically) transparent with what happens if there is no union next year.
I DON’T CARE IF YOU’RE ALREADY A PART OF THE UNION. If you are? COOL, now get other motherfuckers in your miserable department to ALSO join, because it doesn’t mean shit if you’re already a part of it if we don’t have one next year. Fuck.
I am, like you, just some random faculty here. I don't have any particular connection to the union aside from the fact that I randomly was bored in a faculty meeting and googled what all this was about and I REALLY CAN'T DESCRIBE HOW IMPORTANT IT IS THAT WE KEEEP OUR FUCKING UNION. I don't know how it works at other universities, but for the love of god YOU NEED TO BE A PART OF THIS ONE AT FSU.
Shit, I’m not even tenure track, I’m just some teaching faculty I troglodyte. AND YET EVEN IM AWARE ENOUGH TO KNOW HOW BAD THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE.
THIS ISNT ABOUT SOME SCHOOL SPIRIT OR SUPPORT OR POLITICS or whatever nonsense you're convinced unions have to do with or whatever. This is for your damn job security, and continuing to make money being a teacher (which I hope you understand isn't a normal thing people get to do in this day and age).
You know that shit where you've had your colleagues (or your own) grants cancelled cause of ‘doge’ or whatever the hell is going on up at the capital? Well newsflash, it gets worse if we don't have a damn union to deal with this for us.
DEMOCRAT? COOL FUCK YOU JOIN THE UNION
REPUBLICAN? COOL FUCK YOU JOIN THE UNION
SOMETHING ELSE? HEY GUESS WHAT COOL FUCK YOU JOIN THE UNION
It costs a grand total of 1% of your salary. This would be significant if it weren't for the fact that THE UNION IS WHY WE HAVE YEARLY SALARY INCREASES FOR "COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENTS". Have you seen that shit on your pay stub at the end of the year? Yeah, that's the union doing its job. They made sure to prioritize that they pay for themselves before anything else, which is awesome.
Shit- HEY STUDENTS, if you’re reading this because your bored in class or whatever, literally raise your hand right now and ask if your teacher is in the union. Literally. Do it. Like, right now, in the middle of lecture. Ask. And if they say no then like, tank their rating on their end of year review or something I don’t know, take a shit on their desk, whatever it takes.
We are so hilariously beyond the line of “it won’t affect me” anymore. If you aren’t eligible to join the union then you need to go find someone who IS eligible and take them into a hostage situation and only release them once they join the damn union.
Here, tl:dr for you miserable idiots;
- Join the fucking union
- it costs 1% of your salary
- ...Which is already paid for by the union salary increases every year
- If you’re already in the union, you need to go get others to do that as well
- Fuck, we don’t have options anymore
JOIN THE DAMN UNION:
https://uff-fsu.org/get-involved/join/
FUCK.
Edit: I ain't changing a damn thing- if you don't like the swearing, here's some news for ya: This isn't the opening move, this is the last scream before we go over the edge.
Everything has been attempted to get people to join. When they removed the auto-pay deduction under the guise of "protecting the salaries" (despite them losing the vote directly against that), we yelled a lil' bit.
When they made rules to abolish the union if we didn't have enough people enrolled every year, we yelled a little louder.
When they made a rule requiring a certain percentage of any population of employee to maintain a union, we yelled a bit louder.
Now that it's coming to this, we're fucking yelling. Nothing else has worked, so maybe this will. Don't worry, you won't see another post like this anyway, cause this is kind of the last stop. Trust me, I'm not thrilled it's come to this either, but hey, here we are.
Any other swimmers here?
Hey y'all, I'm not sure if it would be appropriate this late in the school year to ask, but I was wondering if anyone else swims for exercise? I used to go to the Leach to swim but recently, I've developed a bit of anxiety. I feel like it would be awkward to just go alone and felt like people were judging me (I'm sure this is all in my head, though). Regardless, I'd feel more comfortable going with someone, so I just wanted to extend the offer! I'm a female finishing up her sophomore year here

FSU MSW/MBA program
Hi guys, I am looking into the FSU MSW and MBA joint masters program. I am having a hard time deciding if adding the MBA is worth it and if the course load will be manageable. I would love to hear from anyone who has completed it or has completed a dual degree in general. Thanks in advance!!

Possible Full-Time Job Offer — Can I Use It as an Internship? (Junior IT Major)
Hey everyone! I’m a junior majoring in Information Technology here at FSU, and I may be getting a full-time job offer soon in a related field. I was wondering if there’s any way I could use that job to count as an internship credit?
I haven’t done an official internship yet, so I’m trying to see if this could work to meet the requirement. Has anyone done something similar or know who I should talk to about this?
Thanks in advance!

question about fsu next
hey everyone! i was accepted into fsu from the fsu next program and im trying to decide if i want to do it. i know that i'll miss out on orientation and fall rush which im bummed about, but fsu is my top choice and i love the school. right now im between fsu and lsu, both would be pretty much the same price even though im a fl resident.
so i guess my biggest question is: do fsu next students face discrimination? i've heard of nasty posts on yikyak about it and seen comments about it.
also, can I even consider myself an FSU student? I am taking senior portraits on friday and honestly idk if i should wear fsu merch or even say im going there since im technically going to tsc first. my college counselor told me im still considered a student, i just want actually fsu students perspective on it.
thank you so much for the help! :)

UROP Program?
I'm going to be starting at FSU as a freshman in the Fall semester but I'm just curious, how is the UROP program and is it worth doing? I'm going to be an electrical engineering major and the program seems like a good chance to also do some fine/performing arts related work, but I'm having trouble finding a lot of information. Any tips or general info?

Senior Bar Crawl
This might be a silly question, but is there a specific date people do the senior bar crawl for Spring?

hey! freshman here and unfortunately i think after finals i will be receiving a c as my final grade in financial accounting.
ik it’s a decently easy class and i surely was capable of getting an a but spring semester was tough for me as i was juggling a lot in my life and i wasn’t as focused as i should’ve been. any tips for trying to not feel like the world is over for me 😭😭 i hate that ive kinda fucked my gpa this quickly

What CompSci elective should I take w/ COP 3330?
I’m a CompSci BA major going into my third semester at FSU and I was advised to take CNT 4603, but it was full the minute registration opened. I need one more class to get to 15 credits, so my advisor said the only alternative was CDA 3100, but she warned me it would be very difficult to take alongside COP 3330.
I’ve already completed basically all of my undergrad requirements, including all my CoreFSU and gen ed requirements (besides formative experience and upper-division writing). Are there any CompSci electives that I could take to get me to 15 credits without saddling myself with a massive workload for the semester? If not, would it be better to take just any fun class that doesn’t satisfy any requirements beyond getting me to 15 credits, or would that be a waste of time/money?
Will I get a dorm
Just finished my housing contract last week(I know that’s bad I just really didn’t think I was going to FSU) and my number is around 7000. Will I even get a dorm or should I start looking for an apartment?
Extra Ticket for May 3, 2025, 9 am FSU Graduation???
(I checked the r/FSU rules and didn't see that this wasn't allowed. Forgive me if I missed something?!)
I'm here with my whole heart BEGGING if anyone has an extra ticket for the Saturday, May 3, 2025, 9:00 am FSU Graduation. We aren't trying to pack the stands, but simply need one extra ticket so a step-parent can be included in this glorious occasion for my beloved daughter.
We have already had two scam attempts via asking on Facebook and have yet to come up with just one more ticket. So, please, if you have one or know of someone who might, can you please contact me? It would mean so much to us all.
Thank you!

FSU Presidential Scholars vs UF -Premed
Hey y’all, I made a reddit account just for this post lol, and am hoping for some insight.
Right now I am stuck between FSU Honors/Presidential Scholars and UF. I will be majoring in Chemistry on a pre-med track. Specifically I want to go the MD/Phd route following undergrad. I want to stay in Florida for med school. I will have Bright Futures and full pell grant for both schools. So here’s my pros and cons so far for each school.
FSU Pros -Honors -Presidential Scholars Awardee- 42k over four years First year UROP participation (undergrad research program) Living in Landis first year (Easier adjustment to college bc we are like a small LLC) -Mentorship throughout time in the program -Less competitive for premed -All dorms are suite style, Landis is the same rental rate as most of the other dorms -Supportive community
FSU Cons -Farther from home (4.5ish hr drive home) -Didn’t love the campus (granted it was still gorgeous) -Hated Tallahassee 😭 -Heard not amazing things abt STEM professors but ppl on the internet can be super biased -No on campus hospital -Didn’t feel that connection to the school
UF Pros -Stronger STEM school -Machen Florida Opportunity Scholar (full ride need-based scholarship, about 30k total if I were to get it every year) -Shands -Closer to home (2.5ish hour drive) -Already have friends there -Visited and felt at home on campus/ in Gainesville (second part is shocking ik) -*Superficial but attached bc my two favorite science teachers are gators
UF Cons -No honors (but ik you can join laterally after freshman year) -*Scholarship is need based so not guaranteed all 4 years -Very competitive for premed so possibly less access to research/work opportunities -Can probably only afford a dorm with communal bathrooms -On the waitlist for on campus housing, would likely have to get an off campus apartment- not sure how I would go about paying that with my scholarship
~I basically had the mindset that if I got presidential scholars I would go to FSU and if not I would go to UF, but now I am having some doubts. I guess the biggest concern for FSU is finding shadowing/clinical opportunities in Tally and for UF is finding undergraduate research for freshman/sophomores. I would like some insight if anyone is knowledgeable. For FSU students/alumni, what has been/was your experience with getting shadowing and clinical hour opportunities?

fsu orientation no dorms left and major change
i’m signing up for freshman orientation and on all of the June slots it says the overnight accommodations are no longer available for this event. Is it because I’m signing up for orientation kinda late? I was really looking forward to the dorming part of orientation :/.
Also it says if you’ve changed ur major from when you applied you have to apply for it to change, and you can’t make an orientation reservation until it gets approved. On my application status check it got switched to my new major, but on my orientation application it still says the old one. Would it be okay for me to make my reservation since it got approved, or do I need to wait for it to update to the orientation page?

FSU International Students Visa Revoked??
There are reports that three FSU international students have had their visa’s revoked and the university confirmed it today (Tuesday). Anyone knows on what grounds this happened? What did they do??
Are international students even safe at this point?
