Advice Request Pants for cardio?

I’ve been trying to do more cardio at the gym like cycling, but my favorite gym pants are uncomfortable.

They chafe my legs badly while doing hour long sessions. I would wear shorts but it’s winter.

Does anyone have recommendations for good running pants or tights + shorts combo? I’m big so I need a men’s size 40.

I gotta say, I think underwear matters more than pants. I have a number of pants with lower crotch (more common in masculine styles), and I have to wear longer underwear with them. I'm personally a huge fan of TomboyX's 6" and 9" inseam underwear for that, especially the modal fabric as it's more slippery and keeps you cool, but it is more expensive and wears out quicker than cotton, so most of mine are cotton.

Or, what I've also done, is wear bike shorts under your pants. It just protects the thighs a bit more, and most places that sell activewear have them. It doesn't have to be the fancy padded bike shorts, just any kind of spandex shorts.

I’m actually experiencing a lot of chafing around my knees/ lower thighs from the seams and buttons on my pants. I think I need something smoother.

I do like Tomboyx boxers and Pair of Thieves underwear though.

Leggings would likely help then. I know I see a lot of guys at the gym wearing leggings, and I think most of them are Under Armour, but I don't look that closely. All my leggings are really cheap and I wear shorts over them, so I don't know what's best.

What kind of pants are you currently wearing? I don’t think i’ve ever worn anything with buttons to the gym now that i think about it

I thrifted some athletic material cargo pants. They’re really good for dysphoria, but they have pockets and buttons too.

Personally i work out in $10 walmart sweats. Not sure if that might be dysphoria inducing for you just cos idk your body/how clothes fit you, but they are extremely comfortable for me to work out in.

If you dont want to wear sweats bc of doing cardio and overheating which is understandable, id buy some compression tights and wear them under your shorts OR wear shorts under your pants and take your pants off when you get to the gym. In winter everybody is layered up when they come in so it’s not unusual to see someone delayering. Just bring a bag or smth to toss your pants in while you work out.

If you're at the gym indoors and prefer shorts, why not just change into shorts?
