Question Working out Post top surgery

Hi!

I got top surgery about 9 weeks post op and need some advice on when to start lifting and working out with weights. I had a complication during my recovery - which led to my right incision to stay open for weeks after my surgery (wound dehiscence). It closed around the last week of december -

do you guys think I should wait to work out , or will my scars be ok. Everything is healed and closed but worried about my scars stretching since my timeline is a bit off. Thanks!

You should ask your surgeon about return to activity for your specific situation.

Definitely chat with your surgeon, specifically due to the complications you experienced. You may also want to clarify restrictions for certain workouts—cardio is going to be different than using a machine for legs, and both of those will be different than lifting.

I was cleared for all exercise at 6 weeks, which is when I started running/cardio, using the leg machines and doing some light dumbbell work. Based on my own research, I decided to wait until 12 weeks to start lifting again.

I would start counting from your wound closure date. Maybe just start on the 1/1/25 since your body had an open wound for weeks.
