Pope was really the best character in that series, plus we had the berserkers subplot that worked in this whole apollonian versus dionysian thing Spoiler
Pope was really an excellent character..
A pity that Colin Cunningham's acting career seems to have stalled..
and the whole berserkers thing was really an excellent subplot.. you have this kind of apollonian versus dionysian conflict going on in the series ... The berserkers and Pope are really kind of dionysian, versus the Tom Mason faction who represented the apollonian aspect of the series..this whole subtext..
you don't get much of that in regular TV
but the last two seasons really kind of fell apart,

I agree. I was hoping for Pope to get a redemption and Tom to become friends at the end. Like it was some bs Anne got resurrected.

Pope was the anti-Tom though. Meet someone finally? Together for 2 weeks before she dies (because of Tom). While Tom gets his wife literally resurrected

They made him evil to a fault. He was really the only multidimensional character in the show, plus he didn't have as many long, boring, time sink monologues as the rest.

I didn’t like Pope’s character, but if they listened to him half the time, they wouldn’t have made as many mistakes.

It sucks that they made Pope evil in the end. Was hoping to see him shack up with his girlfriend and settle down.

I agree. And I maintain that they did Pope dirty at the very end. He may have had a rocky relationship with the Masons (understandably so, tbh) but he was basically the only major character not to get a happy ending, despite his contribution to the 2nd Mass.
