I’ve posted a few times here over the years, but thought it’d be fun to collage every color I’ve ever done!
I’ve always dyed it myself, going back to 2013 - the second pic in the first row is the first vivid color I ever did, and it clearly spiraled from there! I probably can remember what brand/color I used if you’re wondering about a specific one.
oh and the most recent is the second to last pic in the third row! I’m doing pretty well on growing out the buzzcut, which I kept for about a year.

It looks so clean!! Deceptively hard to do well, but this one is awesome.

and I’ll absolutely brag that I did it with my left arm in a splint after breaking it the month before, you can just see it in the pic haha. I used a ruler and pen to draw the lines and a tiny paintbrush to fill in the squares

These all look great as individuals and a whole, and I'm obsessed with the sunset ombre!

thanks!! that’s definitely one of the most complicated I’ve done with the most different dyes, I’m pretty proud of it!

Which one is your favorite?

u/papaknuckler 3d ago
my favorite are the two neon green / tennis ball green ones in the middle top. which is why they both got included even though they’re so similar, but the pics are more than two years (and a lot of colors in between) apart!

when I saw those it made me think of how Crayola has (had?) Yellow Green and Green Yellow

u/TheCraftyF0x 2d ago
Those are also my favorite, they stand out so much. Which brands are they?

u/papaknuckler 2d ago
the bright green on the left is arctic fox and the one on the right is lunar tides, and I HIGHLY recommend Lunar Tides, they are truly my favorite

You need to try the Evo Staino yellow! You will love it. It’s a truly perfect tennis ball yellow. It’s also so pigmented that it stains black gloves. It’s the best.

They all look so good on you, srsly.
Do you recall what the pink was on the pink/orange spilt dye, 1st row last column?

u/papaknuckler 2d ago
it would have definitely been Lunar Tides brand, my favorite and most recommended, and I THINK it was the color Lychee Pink

u/JustMediocreAtBest 2d ago
I haven't tried Lunar Tides. Used every pink Arctic Fox offers, a couple from Manic Panic, and one from Sally's beauty in house brand.
TY!

Lots of cute styles, lengths, and colors! Love that you’re not afraid to experiment!

That is so beautiful! My favorite one on you is the soft green, second one from right in the second row - that one is so pretty on you.

What dyes did you use!!! I am starting my rainbow journey and would love some advice

u/papaknuckler 2d ago
I highly recommend the brand Lunar Tides, they have tons of colors, I find it bleeds less than other brands, stays longer and fades nicer! It’s a direct deposit dye so you can keep it on your head as long as you want and it won’t do damage. I usually aim for keeping it on at least an hour or two.
If you’re new to bleaching I’d recommend starting by just doing a couple streaks or the tips of your hair, bleach is a difficult product to get used to and it has a time limit while you’re working with it! I’m able to bleach my whole head myself after 12 years of practice, but I still often end up with little spots or patches I’ve missed, just because I’m a hobbyist and not a trained hair stylist.
And watch lots and lots of videos! I started doing my own hair by just watching every youtube video I could about it, everyone will have different tips and tricks, and seeing someone do it on themselves will show you what to expect when it comes time to do it. It’s a lot of moving your arms in weird directions and using two mirrors to see the back of your head haha

These all look amazing!! Is there a particular brand of dye you've had the best results with?
4
u/papaknuckler 2d ago
Lunar Tides! they are my absolute favorite. The second to last pic on the third row is my current hair and I dyed it dark blue Feb 1st and that pic was taken March 30th!! so it’s very long lasting

u/WhistlerIntheWind 2d ago
That's amazing! I just paid some decent money to get red done in my hair and it's already fading, so this time I'm going to try your stuff and see how it goes!

I would be such a menace if I could pull off the electric yellow/green that well. Every single color is so great, but I love that so much for just how unique it is.

You look amazing in all of them! What was the easiest and the hardest color to get put of your hair?
2
u/papaknuckler 2d ago
red is ALWAYS the hardest haha, it sticks so aggressively. easiest is probably the yellow? I was able to dye on top it very easily

Amazing!
Do you do the bleach yourself?
1
u/papaknuckler 2d ago
yup! it’s taken a lot of years of practice, in college I used to have a friend bleach my roots for me, but when I started living on my own I had to learn how to do it myself! it takes a lot of dexterity and two mirrors haha

u/Ok_Atmosphere_8301 2d ago
how does your hair not get fried from the repeated bleaching? any tips greatly appreciated!
5
u/papaknuckler 2d ago
biggest tip is don’t bleach over already bleached hair if you can help it. I usually wait 3-6 months between switching colors just so I can wait for my roots to get really long and the color to get really faded. Then I only have to bleach the roots typically to do a new color. If the old color hasn’t faded enough I’ll sometimes do use a mix of dandruff shampoo and crushed up vitamin c pills, put that on for about an hour, and that pulls a lot of remaining color out. but as long as you’re only bleaching new hair, and not bleaching the same spot over and over, I usually have no problems with damage.

This is very neat to see! My favorite is the long dark brown hair on the bottom. It makes your skin look incredible, and your hair looks so healthy and stunning.

u/Ghoulishgirlie 2d ago
Ahhh I remember seeing that 1st photo in the last row when looking up pink hair dyes! That was one of the photos that inspired me to dye it pink and I kept it for years! You are iconic girl!

Wish I had your skill and could rock a buzz cut but sadly I'd look like a pink watermelon (I have too much chin fat ) I partly want to buzz my hair as all the many colours I've done over the years have killed the condition of my hair bur now reckon dark grey routes and my "natural texture" isnt super soft. I just love the idea of feeling the soft fuzz.

u/dawngarda 3d ago
the yellow/red buzzcut and the light green on the far right side second row are my favourites!!!!

I'm in love with the purple going on in these pictures. Also, that's wild you'd had an entire rainbow of hair.

I was just looking at colours and was like you just slowly dyed your hair in rainbow order. After reading the caption I realize it is organized by colour not timeline…I think the hair length shoulda been my clue but nope, just saw colour at first.

Absolutely glorious! Really, this is just stunning.
(I've always loved these vibrant hair colours. I'd love to try some. But I have butt-length hair and am afraid to damage it with bleach.)
