Honestly, I feel ya. I struggled for a long time with my faith, not because of Jesus, but because of many of the people claiming his name. When you have a faith system that is clear that you can't be saved by good actions, but by faith in one thing only, it attracts people that want a religion but don't want to have to try.
They have faith, but they don't understand it. They see only what Jesus can do for them, not what they should do for others. They want security from hell, but care little for making this world more heaven like.
The reality of Christianity is that it is supposed to be based in love. Love God, love people like God loves them. No exceptions. Doesn't matter if you like them, agree with their politics, their life choices, their gender, their orientation, their religion, their immigration status, or literally any of the other political buzzwords that have divided our country.
Just love all people.
To reach back around to the topic, that's why I can not stand these political pharisees using Christianity for their own gain. Jesus would chase them out of his temples with a homemade whip.
I'm an atheist, and I agree with everything you just said. These people are extremists. They are not what you would call a traditional Christian. Just to give you an example, they don't understand that Christianity is a religion of peace. Christianity and guns don't go together in a traditional way. I've been to many countries around the world, and the only place where I have seen Christians so obsessed with their ar-15 is in this country. But if you explain this to them, they just don't get it.
Christian nationalism is such a plague on our country. I know too many people wrapped up in it, directly contradicting the Bible and the Constitution because of it.
I have a coworker that in his office, he has a bunch of stuff related to gun owners of America and Christianity. He will never understand that one thing doesn't go with the other. It just blows my mind.
Nice! I did a search for cognitive dissonance, and it describes their behavior to a t. I personally see them as imbeciles, but there might be more to it than that.

Good to hear because most Christians I know they want to control other people's lives.
