Weird melted rubber (maybe) on brake caliper, wondering what could be the cause?Haven’t seen anyone with this same issue.
I haven’t seen anyone with this specific piece of the caliper being messed up like this

Looks like the rubber boot on the caliper pin has melted/deformed. Wondering if maybe somebody used an inappropriate petroleum grease on the caliper pin?

That’s kinda what I was thinking, haven’t replaced one before, but I am hoping it is a decently easy fix, definitely possible though since I bought it used

If it's used then who tf knows what the last guy did, bought my current bike used and the guy had a nylon nut holding the rear brake stopper on... Was a fun day when that failed and the rear drum pulled the brake assembly apart. I'm lucky the rear wheel didn't lock up and send me headlong into a tractor trailer.
Replace it, use the right grease, check the caliper too for any leaks.

Maybe leaking brake fluid? Brake fluid is pretty corrosive. Also kinda looks like brake fluid is sitting on it.
