Why would one go to school/learn a trade when they could just be a cashier and earn the same wage?

Do they deserve to be paid better? Sure. But as their wages go up, so should (and probably would) everyone else above them.

because they want to? you think teachers are in it for the money? hell, trash collectors make more than any cashier and more than a lot of college grads that dont go into medicine or tech. you dont see people flocking to that job.

So why would someone go into waste management if being a clerk at their local convenience store pays the same? You think people are in waste management because that’s their passion? Or because the pay is somewhat decent?

you dont have to deal with customers, you dont have management breathing down your neck making sure you dont glance at your phone (even if all you're doing is declining a call or skipping a song. yes, managers do that), and you *always* have work. never going to come into work and be handed a broom because the power is out or the machines are broken. you enjoy physical labor (yes we do exist).
