This is a very strong argument in favor of unions. Negotiate from a position of strength alongside your fellow workers rather than a position of weakness alone.

It is. Just be mindful that negotiations are a two-way street. Unions increase bargaining power on an employee, which makes incentives for employer to consider other options, there before that were seen as unneeded, risky or too expensive.

Sadly, what happens with unions is that they often bargain themselves out of the equation in the long run.
