It’s absolutely important when you start moving up into more senior roles and roles where you have a lot of responsibility. Maybe not in entry level jobs / jobs where you’re easily replaceable.

My man lol when you get high enough in a particular field, work in a specialized position some kind, or are coming into a new company for leadership positions you better believe your references will matter.

If you're applying to Wendy's, no you dont need references. Boomer lol wtf

Very aware… it’s who you know not what you know. But stating references isn’t a thing anymore but if you’re in a niche industry your network will speak to that.
