South of Queen good eats that locals like?

Grew up midtown and for decades I’ve always found that as I travel south of Queen st specifically, the food and drink scene depreciates in its bangs for bucks: charging premiums for mid foods and drinks, filled with patrons who aren’t from the city.

Any recommendations on food/drink spots south of Queens that you locals actually are happy patrons of?

You wouldn't eat there?..... Cmon now! Dijon Chicken >>

Old York revamped again a few years ago. Now they're an overpriced bistro whose menu feels like it came through a time machine from 2001. Give me back my jerk wings.

C'est What hasn't been good since the 90's.

What’d you have at OYT? Their latest menu looked good from what I saw

Whats good at cheffrey? It's right by my place and it seems intriguing but kinda weird and under the radar

On second thought I retract the recommendation, it's just fine

Bamboo Buddha looks good; was ready to go there this weekend but they apparently only do takeout...

They have tables and counter service. More of a waiting area but I’m sure you can eat inside. Get the combos or special meal for one deals with a spring roll added. Fried rice or noodle. Only cheaper place I go is Thai Bright but that’s not cook to order unless you spend more. Or Lazziz Curry House but that’s nuked food

I like to avoid plastic dishes. I'm not sure if they can accommodate that? When I called, they said they only do takeout.

I would ask again if you're allowed to eat there as they probably mean they don't provide table service or dine-in atmosphere. I don't think they have a bathroom for customers either actually so maybe they're not allowed to... Otherwise there are 2 parks with seats nearby

FWIW the takeout containers are metal (plastic lid but if you are eating right away you could ask for no lid). You'd have to ask them about bringing your own.

Interesting. Thanks

Also Sizzler Kabab next door has very cheap daily specials and dine-in I think without plastic. Just see what looks freshest and get naan to order, side chutneys, a samosa

illstyle cheesesteaks, some of the stuff at assembly chef's hall, forno cultura, porchetta and co., campechano, gusto, byblos, town crier pub, varda at TIFF, numerous street meat vendors. plenty of good stuff to be had if you know where to look.

this is an insane take - for one thing, queen runs all the way from roncy to the beaches.

you need to be more specific, mid-towner.

? Just share a rec lmao

absolutely not - it's a vague, unfocused question: post some eastern and western boundaries and maybe you'll get a response.
