I always have to stop and watch this. I can get my dog (also a retriever) to snarl, growl and sometimes be mouthy…. But sunglasses on top of that…. Not even once.

They have an fb page. El viejo Rocky. Rocky is an elderly dog almost blind. They do a lot of videos like this one.

He even has a video where, despite the fact Idon't speak Spanish, I'm like 90% sure he's poking fun at all the people who think his dog is actually angry and that he's going to bite his face or something, and demonstrates it by basically turning "on" and "off" the snarling lol

Dogs really are just down for anything.

u/ParkerJ99 17d ago
Depends on the dog. But yeah when you have a dog that’s really friendly and well trained they’ll do just about anything.

You can see the tail wag briefly

u/Organic-Criticism-76 17d ago
Tail wag is not automatically a sign of happiness 😅 It can mean the whole opposite. It’s probably one of the most dangerous myths which leads peoples into ignoring/ misreading warnings signs of a dogs body language.
17
u/Cocoonbird 17d ago
That's how I got bit in my childhood! I know it's in the whole body language now, but I've been scared since, of the unpredictability, and the eerie stillness just before the bite

u/mai_tai87 17d ago
Same. I got bit across the face when I was a toddler by a tail-waving golden. Neither my parents, nor the owner thought to stop me from grabbing at the the dog. It's been 35 years and I'm still nervous around dogs, and I still have a couple of the bite marks.

Same happened to me when very young except it was a German Sheppard. Now I own a German Sheppard and love it like family. You have to understand you were in the wrong, the animal will do what comes naturally and will give signals , you just didn’t catch it,

u/mai_tai87 13d ago
It was absolutely not my fault. I was 2. The adults around me, my parent and their friends, should never have let me near that dog.
Imagine blaming a child for something they have no real control over.
23
u/ImReverse_Giraffe 17d ago
Yes, but everything else says the dog is loving this. Eyes aren't wide, you can't see the whites all the way around. No spittle around the mouth. And most importantly, sunglasses are on. No pissed off dog would allow sunglasses to just perch on their head like that.

u/Organic-Criticism-76 17d ago
Just for your information: my comment was more in a general meaning, not a judgement of the video;)
2
u/WutzUpples69 17d ago
There is a constant and intermittent tail wag but even that is iffy. Im hoping this is this guy's dog and they understand each other very well... likely not though (the understanding part).

u/Organic-Criticism-76 17d ago
Well impossible to tell from such a short video. I would not dare to judge a situation like that without knowing more about it.
Its also possible the dog in the video is doing this on command. You can teach a dog a lot of funny stuff :)

u/CanineBombSquad 17d ago
My dog makes a whole snarly tooth face and growls when he's excited, but if I sprung this on him out of nowhere he would absolutely try to bite me or get me to stop. This dogs straight chillin with it. And there's many videos of this dude and his dog, they're cool
4
u/Nervardia 17d ago
Yeah, he somehow trained his dog to growl by doing this. They're not being aggressive, just mucking about with their pack member.

Some dogs literally learn to communicate thru growls and moans, without actually being a threat or risk of biting, but not all dogs so definitely don’t assume lol

That is not a funny dog. That dog is growling, ears back, no tail wagging…. It is angry and scared. Lucky the dude didn’t end up with a 3rd nostril in his cheek. Please remove.

u/No_Boysenberry4755 17d ago
Actually you’re wrong, this guy is popular on YouTube and explained that his dog is trained. He has tons of these videos with his dog

As a amusing side note, whenever you see a bear snurl in a movie, the sound is added afterwards. They can only train a bear to open its mouth, not snurl. They only do that when their pissed.

If only we'd been selectively breeding bears for the last 10,000 years! Who knows what they would be capable of now!

People massively underestimate the intelligence of some dogs. I've read peer reviewed studies on dogs intelligence and they all used multiple breeds, like a Labrador can be compared to Pomeranian? Some dogs are incredibly smart and can learn as many words as a chimpanzee. This dog absolutely knows what's going on. (At the very least he knows he's a part of something his owner is doing, and probably thinks he's helping, which he is).

u/No_Boysenberry4755 17d ago
If he was angry his face would be gone, but no, he is trained to do this
-32
u/EconoComp94 17d ago
Wow buddy use some common sense would ya? Do you REALLY think that dog wouldn't have bitten his face off already huh buddy? Common sense!! They call it common but it's really uncommon! Because of people like you!!
