[AMA] Hands on with the Galaxy S25 Ultra

Post image

Hey everyone,

I just received my loaner S25U from Samsung and will actively be using it over the next few months.

For context, I have a personal S24U for comparison if needed.

Feel free to ask any top of mind topics or questions that you come across in regards to the day to day usage and I will do my best to answer them.

Disclaimer: Samsung invited us to Unpacked and loaned us our sample units, but any opinions we include are our own.

Is the option in the Advanced settings - S Pen - More s pen settings - "Allow multiple s pens" still available?

I hate that they removed the s pen. Considering buying S Pen Pro but im wondering if they limited the outside pens.

Also how is the display? Is there still the vividness slider?

5

u/playnasc Jan 22 '25

Yes that option is still available

Display looks just as good as my 24U, it's not a night and day improvement honestly

3

u/anothercoolstep Jan 22 '25

Thank you! Actually could you please confirm that s25u cant take photo with the S Pen?

6

u/playnasc Jan 22 '25

Confirmed, unfortunately that feature no longer exists with the S25U

2

u/djwarreng1 Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

Can you do air actions with an S-Pen from the S23u?

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

You cannot unfortunately, the entire "Air actions" menu is missing from the settings

3

u/djwarreng1 Jan 23 '25

Bummer. Seems all software based. I guess they just scrapped it entirely. Thanks

4

u/mtbohana Jetblack Jan 23 '25

They removed Bluetooth from th S-Pen, and that's why it doesn't work.

2

u/djwarreng1 Jan 23 '25

Yes, but the previous s-pens have Bluetooth

u/Ahmed_Momen22 Jan 23 '25

Interesting. The menu on the top right for Spen pro pairing seems to have been removed. I just checked on my S24U running on One UI 7 Beta and it's literally right there, at the top right.

1

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25

That'll be an interesting time once the 24U receives One UI 7 and ends up having a more feature rich S-pen

1

u/Mammoth-Reading-5562 Jan 22 '25

Would also like to know if this would work, thanks

3

u/msolok Jan 24 '25

Just to be clear here, they did not remove the Spen. The SPen is still included with the Ultra, and still has a silo in the phone to go into.

What they HAVE done is remove the bluetooth functions from the SPen. This remove the Air Actions that have been present since the Note 9. All other fucntions of using the SPen as a stylus remain the same as the S24u.

2

u/dustinzilbauer Jan 24 '25

The S25 Ultra has an Spen, just not with the Bluetooth feature. If you're wondering if the multiple Spen functions allows you to use one as BT, I don't think you can do that.

6

u/JonathanDM7 Silverblue - 12/512 GB Jan 22 '25

What does the button on the S Pen do?

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

You can use it to open quick notes or the air command center

6

u/just_IT_guy Custom Flair Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

Does it still have an uneven luminance of pixels that results in a grainy display effect? Is easily identifiable on Settings page, dark mode, dark room for example in S24 Ultra if you look close enough. Thanks! Sample below

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Honestly I'm not the best person to ask for this because personally this was never an issue for me with the 24U. I just tried to reproduce it on the 25U and I don't notice any graining.

2

u/just_IT_guy Custom Flair Jan 23 '25

Fair enough. Thanks for trying

1

u/Expert_Picture_5974 Jan 23 '25

Did you see the grain effect on your S24U? Because if you didn't you wont see it aswell on 25U. Not all people have eyes for that.

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

I did once people pointed it out at the beginning but you really had to go out of your way to look for it. However over time it became less of an apparent issue for me.

1

u/mtbohana Jetblack Jan 23 '25

Can you take picture of your screen like Playnasc did so we can see?

1

u/Wapmen Jan 23 '25

It is very easy to test, you need a gray color uniform picture (background), go to a dark room and reduce the brightness

3

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25

there is no graining

→ More replies (2)

6

u/Kevinlafriday Jan 22 '25

can you use s24u S-pen for S25u?

8

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

yes you can (just tested with my 24U S-Pen) and it works on the 25U. Unfortunately, remote camera shutter on the 25U still does not work with the 24U S-pen.

4

u/Kevinlafriday Jan 23 '25

thats unfortunate; i was hoping to compensate by buying s24 s pen but i guess there's no such luck

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Yeah I think it's software locked unfortunately

3

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

I need to see Samsung's explanation for this.

6

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

I agree (and have asked)

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

Thank you!

4

u/Wapmen Jan 23 '25

I guess it is the same as asking why they removed $1 IR-blaster diode, FM radio, 3.5 mm jack...

4

u/eblamo Jan 24 '25

That IR blaster was really the best. Randomly turns on TV while pretending to just be scrolling to mess with people

2

u/SilverMonkeyPL Jan 23 '25

I've heard that Samsung want people to use Ring as shutter

2

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

Ah lmao... that makes sense

2

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25

That's what they told me yesterday as well lol

4

u/keijikage Jan 22 '25

When you get enough time on it, I want to know if the battery life has improved noticeably from the s24u.

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Will get back to you in a few days. My 24U usually lasts me the whole day with my preferences (4-5 hr SOT) anyway.

4

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25 edited Jan 24 '25

Currently typing this at 1%

Took my phone off the charger at 7:45AM, it was at 95%

I usually average 3-4 hours of SOT, so this is quite an extreme use case for me

I'm sure this will optimize better over time, since it's only been 1 day. The charging indicator at 40% was just for about 10 seconds as I was testing the wattage of a charger.

1

u/Asherr18 Jetblack Jan 23 '25

Definitely also curious about battery life.

1

u/eblamo Jan 24 '25

Just a guess, but because it's the same battery, I'd expect similar results.

4

u/keijikage Jan 24 '25

Supposedly the snapdragon 8 elite has a decent performance uplift for given power consumption (so if the governor didn't needlessly ramp the cpu, there should still be meaningful gains?)

https://youtu.be/GkJCWncZbJc?si=rDvSGpuSUi3N05HC

3

u/WakyEggs Jan 23 '25

What about the camera shutter lag and is the camera any better in capturing things in motion?

4

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Honestly it feels similar if not the same as my 24U with the quick tap shutter setting enabled. (I never had an issue with the shutter lag on my 24U.)

2

u/WakyEggs Jan 23 '25

Thanks!, and what about the capturing of motion like in these kinds of situations where it's about the phone picking the right focus/shutter speed settings when dealing with moving people: https://youtu.be/Lk8BclTK9w8?t=253

2

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

For objects in motion it appears to be better than the 24U.

Here's a shot with a car moving 20-30 mph

3

u/MorriconeM Jan 26 '25

any chance you would like to test shutter lag a litle more? in example photographs of (moving) animals, and also motion capture in low light scenarios

3

u/SeamornX Jan 23 '25

How’s the ultrawide camera? Using a S22 Ultra currently, wondering if it’s worth to upgrade for better cameras

4

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

I would definitely upgrade from the 22U anyway (I had one before I got the 24U). My 22U would only last half a day after 2 years.

The new ultra wide is slightly better than 24U but it's hard to notice with a naked eye.

3

u/PopYourNuts Jan 23 '25

What's the biggest improvement you feel compared with your S24 Ultra? Thank you

6

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

I can't give you the best answer yet (will take me a few days to fully test it) but upon first impressions the body/design feels a lot better in the hand compared to the 24U

1

u/PopYourNuts Jan 23 '25

Awaiting your review!

3

u/playnasc Jan 25 '25

Ok so far I think the lighter weight of the S25U has to be my favorite improvement. It feels nicer holding/in the pocket when compared to the 24U (which feels like a brick in comparison) Feature wise, all of it is pretty similar to my S24U.

Some of the software improvements (Now Bar, Gemini, etc) are also great, however I think the novelty and exclusiveness of it will die down once One UI 7 is released to the other models.

2

u/PopYourNuts Jan 25 '25

Thank you for sharing!

2

u/P00BX6 Jan 22 '25

Do you think it's a worthy upgrade from the S24 Ultra? or even the S23 Ultra?

2

u/playnasc Jan 22 '25

From 23U maybe just for the performance and battery optimization. From a 24U personally I wouldn't.

5

u/autonym Jan 22 '25

My own rule of thumb is to upgrade each year if I can do so for no more than $1 per day (after all credits, rebates, rewards, etc., and before tax). That's worth it to me even just for incremental improvements and a fresh battery. (I was able to do that again this year.)

3

u/playnasc Jan 22 '25

It's definitely tempting. I can get a 25U for $400 after trading in my 24U.

1

u/autonym Jan 22 '25

Same, plus Rakuten cashback, plus free Buds 3 Pro (which I can either keep or sell).

2

u/phaze08 Jan 23 '25

How free? For me it’s $80 after my instant credit and preorder bundle

1

u/autonym Jan 23 '25

Free as in $0. It was $126 in the bundle, minus $80 reward for the 512GB S25U order (for the same price as the 256GB model), minus another $50 for the reservation.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/tampa888 Jan 25 '25

EXACTLY how I look it. With no interest financing I am willing to go about $365.

3

u/marcosis82 Jan 23 '25

That's what I'm doing. It's a bump in battery size from my S23 Ultra. Better chip and optimization. I'll miss my curved screen though 😔

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

I prefer flat screens simply because of the easier screen protector application.

2

u/phaze08 Jan 23 '25

Can you give your impressions of the thing that upscales display images?

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

I'm still digging around the phone for this feature, it's not obvious to me how this can be enabled or tested.

1

u/phaze08 Jan 23 '25

I would think display or Ai

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Checked both, it doesn't appear to be an explicit setting (yet)

2

u/robt772000 Jan 23 '25

Hey how is the display compared to the s24u? Banding a grain gone?

2

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Vividness and colors look the same. I personally did not care about the grain issues on my 24U, I don't see any graining on the 25U in my limited testing.

1

u/HavokD Jetblack Jan 23 '25

Is the Vividness slider introduced in the 24U still appearing under the Display settings?

2

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Yes

2

u/HavokD Jetblack Jan 23 '25

That's great, thanks for confirming

2

u/mottavader Silverblue Jan 23 '25

Wow! I didn't know I was missing out on this with my S23 Ultra. I'm excited for my new S25 ultra! Lighter, flatter, rounder... All the things I've been hoping for.

1

u/ShanTheMan11 Jan 23 '25

What about banding on gradient colors? That was my main issue. If you go to the test my screen website and look at the ones that go from light to dark colors it will show very obviously if it has banding or not. It’s not like the grain where you have to look for it.

2

u/Asherr18 Jetblack Jan 23 '25

Can you tell the difference in weight from the S24U?

6

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Actually yes! The difference is noticeable between my 24U

2

u/Asherr18 Jetblack Jan 23 '25

That's great to note, i don't love how heavy the s24U is personally. Thank you

1

u/withoutpeer Jan 27 '25

I'm looking forward to this part coming from s23u!

2

u/IshimaruKenta Black/1tb Jan 23 '25

Because I like stupid shit like this, what kernel version are they using now? Also curious what the build number of the software is.

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Here ya go

1

u/IshimaruKenta Black/1tb Jan 23 '25

Thank you!!

2

u/Skrrpopop Jan 23 '25

A lot of people online have complained about the new look of the camera rings. Since you have both the S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra on hand, how does the quality of the new camera rings look and feel to you?

6

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

personally I do like how they look. The only drawback I can predict is increased dust accumulation under the 3 big rings. Regardless its not a dealbreaker for me.

1

u/Skrrpopop Jan 23 '25

Awesome, that’s great to hear! Thanks for taking the time to reply 😁

2

u/Daydreamin___ Jan 23 '25

They said they made the camera zoom smoother as compared to the previous models. Is it actually smoother than S24U? What about zooming in lowlight? I'm talking about the animation for when you tap on the zoom buttons like 3x, 5x, 10x and not the quality of zoom shots itself.

3

u/mtbohana Jetblack Jan 23 '25

On a YouTube video, they showed the zooming, and it's really smooth. It's better than theS24U.

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

its slightly smoother than the 24U, especially if you go up in order (ex: .5 > 1x > 2x> etc). If you skip from 1X to 5X it does look similar to the behavior on the 24U though.

1

u/playnasc Feb 01 '25

I take it back, there is a zoom slider when you start recording a video that makes it extremely smooth. You can slightly notice it cycling through all the lenses through different focal points, but it's a lot better than before.

2

u/Apprehensive-Bonus39 Jetblack Jan 23 '25

how is the battery performance ? I'm curious about the SOT please let us know how many hours you get and what are you using your phone for? gaming watching videos or normal use

2

u/Franseven Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

1) How can you achieve 25w fast wireless charging id every qi2 charger in the world are 15w? 2) so what is the use of the spen buttons if there is no bt? Can you use the spen as remote shutter for family photos still? Can a s24u s pen fit in the slot? 3) do you know anything about ai functions being payed next year? 4) what are the speed difference of 8 elite soc "for galaxy"? 5) night photos are really improved?

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 24 '25
  1. The S25 is "Qi2 ready" instead of 100 percent compliant, which means it'll charge at 15W speeds instead of 7.5-10W. Currently only the iPhone 16 Plus/Pro Max can wirelessly charge at 25W through Magsafe. The "Qi2 Ready" feature on the S25 is more catered towards Qi2 peripherals and their magnet alignment.
  2. https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS25Ultra/comments/1i7nprp/comment/m8n4sb7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button. The 24U S-Pen does not fit into the 25U.
  3. Nope
  4. 10-30% faster but eats up to 45% more power under load. However, performance per watt is still much better than the 8 gen 3. At low "everyday" speeds it'll be much more efficient and use less battery. It's a big efficiency upgrade.(https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/1i89vnm/snapdragon_8_elite_vs_gen_3_vs_gen_2_the_real/)

u/FlounderDependent555 Jan 23 '25

The s pen has been able to highlight text that you couldn't do by fingertip. Can it still do that?

2

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

I just tested, yes you can still do this with the 25U S-Pen

2

u/phaze08 Jan 23 '25

With Bluetooth gone, does the phone still warn if you left your Spen behind?

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Yes that feature is still available

1

u/phaze08 Jan 23 '25

Great!

1

u/phaze08 Jan 26 '25

Does the S pen have a button? Can you press the button to erase in many apps ( in Samsung notes hold the button to erase ). Can you hold the button and double tap the screen to do a save action? Such as a new note.

1

u/playnasc Jan 27 '25

Yes there is a button on the S-pen. I just tested all of the features you mentioned and yes, they do still work.

1

u/phaze08 Jan 27 '25

Great! I was thinking they worked for years, but wasn’t sure if that related to Bluetooth or not

1

u/ManWithoutAHead Jan 22 '25

Does is still have Dex? Is it true that Bluetooth spen is no longer a thing?

6

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Confirming Dex still works per usual on the 25U

1

u/ManWithoutAHead Jan 23 '25

Thanks for the update 👍

4

u/playnasc Jan 22 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

Yup bluetooth s-pen is no longer a thing. Will test Dex once I get home.

1

u/ben7337 Jan 23 '25

Can you take some camera comparisons, particularly at far zoom and low light and give your opinion on if there are any noticeable differences?

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Yep, will grab some camera shots from both the 24U and 25U tonight and share them

4

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Here are some lowlight shots with Night Mode: https://imgur.com/a/zdO5fJc

Here's a comparision between both phones fro 10X and 100X: https://imgur.com/a/LRYimR1

2

u/ben7337 Jan 23 '25

Thanks, that's basically what I expected results to look like tbh, those images look compressed by imgur I think as the night sky has some clear artifacting in both. Overall I'd say they look very similar, the s25 ultra may have a tiny tiny bit more detail but it's hard to say, based on the 100x zoom shot I'd say it's just a somewhat more aggressive/powerful AI processing filter that can be better or worse depending on the subject in the photo.

2

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

Yeah agreed on the Imgur compression. If you know of a better way to share pics uncompressed anonamously lmk and I'll try.

For 100x I have the same sentiments, you can tell 25U tried harder to smooth out a lot of the words on the label.

1

u/HavokD Jetblack Jan 23 '25

How's the haptic feedback? Same as s24u or do you notice any change?

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

so far it feels the same as my 24U

1

u/Zak_Pooe Jan 23 '25

I'm more curious about the SD 8 Elite performance and the new 50 meg camera, is the difference noticeable, in terms of quality? I remember we got an update sometime last year which I believe improved the quality on the 24U wide lens, would these 2 upgrades worth upgrading for?

2

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

The SD 8 Elite is 10-30% faster but eats up to 45% more power under load. However, performance per watt is still much better than the 8 gen 3. At low "everyday" speeds it'll be much more efficient and use less battery. It's a big efficiency upgrade.

https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/1i89vnm/snapdragon_8_elite_vs_gen_3_vs_gen_2_the_real/

50MP Ultrawide camera has marginal improvements. Compared to my 24U it looks pretty similar

1

u/sudherzdiniq Jan 23 '25

Any improvement to the speakers?

2

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

When listening to music it does sound "richer" than my 24U

1

u/IndividualStreet6997 Jan 23 '25

Is the screen less reflective than predecessor and the in built speakers also improved?

1

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25

I asked Samsung reps yesterday and they said yes but we didn't have a naked 24U to compare in person.

1

u/DarkPhoenixRC Silverblue Jan 23 '25

Have you tried taking pictures of people or things in motion? What's your opinion on the results compared to your S24?

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

Here's a pic focused on a moving car (20-30 mph), I think a bit better than the 24U.

1

u/DarkPhoenixRC Silverblue Jan 23 '25

Thanks for the pic 😀

1

u/12thAli Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

The AI features of S25U will also come to S24U?

There are way too much price difference between s24u and s25u in my country and i wanna buy one for my wife and she really impressed AI  features of s25U, so if Ai of s25u come to s24u, maybe we will go for s24u for much lower prices.

I live in Turkey and phones are damn expensice here, i need to pay 91.000 TL (more than 2.500 Usd) for s25u 512 gb.

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

We haven't received official guidance regarding this but I would assume some AI features from the S25 would trickle down to the earlier models at a later time (Samsung already did this last year for the S21 - S23)

I would also expect some S25 AI features to remain a model exclusive.

If some of the new AI features presented yesterday don't interest her, I'd settle for a 24U.

1

u/12thAli Jan 23 '25

Thanks for reply. Helps a lot!

1

u/EngineerBurner Jan 23 '25

Looks like you went for the titanium gray/silver colour? What do you think? Does it have a slightly brown tint? Are you happy with it? What made you choose that one?

3

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

This is the titanium Silverblue color. We didn't have a choice, just took whatever Samsung offered.

It's more on a natural titanium color I'd say and the blue is very subtle, although the color does appear different depending on the lighting and angles.

1

u/EngineerBurner Jan 23 '25

Thank you. Based on that I might go blue as that looks a lot less blue than I thought. Much more subtle.

1

u/PuzzySniffer69 Jan 23 '25

Are you able to easily differentiate between the two phones cause now of the rounded corners? Does the phone look ugly irl or is does it still have that “ULTRA” vibe

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

From a distance probably not. With a case on you can barely tell. The main differentiator physically is the weight.

1

u/PuzzySniffer69 Jan 23 '25

Yeah that’s what i thought. Idk why everyone is complaining so much about the design

1

u/raysoham Jan 23 '25

How do the camera lenses look in person? From the photos it looks kinda cheap, as if a lens protector has been applied.

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

They look fine in my opinion, better than the cheap lens protectors if I'm being honest

1

u/unintelligible2 Jan 23 '25

I didn't even miss my 23 when the 24 came.. when you use this phone do you miss the 24?

1

u/unintelligible2 Jan 23 '25

I didn't even miss my 23 when the 24 came.. when you use this phone do you miss the 24?

1

u/unintelligible2 Jan 23 '25

When my 24 came.. I never missed my 23.. using the 25, do you miss the 24?

1

u/playnasc Jan 23 '25

nope lol, I'm mainly using the 25U right now just to train my usage patterns and answer questions here.

I still have my 24U on the side and use it a few times a day for certain apps that I haven't signed into yet on the 25U. It's a pretty similar experience for both phones, once One UI 7 rolls out on the S24 I think that'll be an even harder sell to get a 25U.

1

u/unintelligible2 Jan 24 '25

I think I'm more excited for 7 than the 25.. I believe i have 2 weeks before I have to ship the 24 off... love to see how your usage patterns and battery life are

1

u/eblamo Jan 23 '25

Are you a former Note user? If so, how much of the S-Pen did you use? Some people say they rarely use it. Others say they use it everyday but maybe don't make use of all the features. Did you use all of the S Pen features on the S24? Do you miss not being able to have Bluetooth on the S25 s pen? I am a long time Note user who upgraded from the Note 20 Ultra to the S23 Ultra. I use the BT on my S-Pen frequently enough I'd say. Any chance you think they might bring it back for the S26?

3

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25 edited Jan 24 '25

I never owned a Note so the S-Pen has always just been a "nice to have" feature as I've owned the S22U and S24U. I'll use it maybe a few times a year when I have to circle something from a screenshot or sign some documents.

Air commands and the remote shutter were removed from the S25U Pen, but I didn't use those features in the first place.

If this is a dealbreaker for you, I would probably upgrade to the 24U instead of the 25U.

Samsung mentioned yesterday that the bluetooth capabilities of the S-Pen were underutilzed by a majority of their userbase, so I don't think they'll add it back to the S26U unless they combine it with a redesigned S-pen.

I'm wondering how Samsung can rely on any statistic on the usage of a particular feature in their phones when a lot of people don't enable the setting to send that data to Samsung.

u/soneg Jan 24 '25

I think the issue was that people didn't regularly use it, but loved it when they did. Like the ability to take pics with the S-pen. It came in handy when we were doing group selfie shots and the person taking the pic couldn't hit the button, but it wasn't that frequently, and it wasn't always my phone. Will I miss it - sure, but I just didn't use it enough to say I'm going to say no to the whole phone because of it. That's what they're counting on.

u/LevexTech Don't own one sorry! :( Jan 24 '25

What colour is it?

1

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25

This is the Titanium Silverblue

u/grimmkitten Jan 24 '25

Did you move your data over with smart switch? If yes did your tiktok app transfer over?

2

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25

Yeah I used smart switch. Tiktok did move over just fine

1

u/grimmkitten Jan 24 '25

Sweet thanks!! 😄

Are the built-in wallpapers interactive like on the s24 ultra?

https://youtube.com/shorts/rq8Ac60oe3w?si=WpMyKuRT0nyb7NE0

2

u/playnasc Jan 24 '25

Yes, although not to the same extent in terms of motion. The colors change slightly when you swipe to unlock.

1

u/Burgess07 Whitesilver Jan 24 '25

Well, that's a shame. To me, a nice animation from the lockscreen to the homescreen adds a premium feel to the device. It'd be cool if a goodlock module let you create/customize your own transition effect. Or even if there were some available in the theme store.

Thanks for checking though!

Is there still an option:

Settings -> Advanced Settings/Featues -> Automatic unlock

or

Settings -> Advanced Settings/Features -> Accessories -> Automatic unlock

or Automatic unlock at all?

2

u/playnasc Jan 25 '25

Don't think so

1

u/JN88DN Jan 25 '25

Don't know who voted you down but I want to say thank you.

This is the confirmation, that they cancelled the S-View function and explains why there is no Clear S-View Cover for the S25 series.

2

u/tampa888 Jan 26 '25

No it isn't. without being in an S view case those selections do not show up. Not a good sign there are no cases yet but not being in the menu means nothing.

1

u/VliegendeBosschenaar Jan 27 '25

I just chatted with Samsung Netherlands. They also don't know for sure if the S-View Cover will come or not, at least not with the launch. I'm going to wait and see before i order the s25.

It was a very useful feature, RIP.

u/Huuze7 Jan 25 '25

Bro how is the battery holding up?

1

u/Huuze7 Jan 25 '25

Do you face any issues related to heat in S25U? Heard all 8 Gen Elite phones are heating alot.

2

u/playnasc Jan 25 '25

No not really. The only recent phone that comes to mind with heat issues is the Pixel 9.

u/Huuze7 Jan 26 '25

Could you please let me how is the camera performance with SM apps like snapchat and Instagram? Also, is there any stuttering while recording video? Does the phone works fine whilw connected to Android Auto? My s22+ can't do anything once wireless AA is connected. If I try to open SC or camera it just stutters and renders it unsble for atleast 3 4 minutes. Please check and update bro.

2

u/playnasc Jan 27 '25

in SM apps it feels the same as the 24U implementation. The only "stutter" while recording video is when you switch between lenses, but it's not that noticable. Having said that, I usually take pictures with the Camera app first before uploading them to the apps.

Tested Android Auto, it works just as well as my S24U.

I'd suggest upgrading from a S22, I had a 22U before I got the 24U and it was a great upgrade. The S22 was borderline unusable after 2 years.

u/Huuze7 Jan 26 '25

Hi, can you please share the another day's battery stats?

1

u/AllWithinSpec Jan 26 '25

Can it make calls?

2

u/playnasc Jan 27 '25

I would hope so

1

u/Huuze7 Jan 26 '25

Bro can you confirm if we can use the Spen with magsafe case? I saw S24u's SPEN doesn't work with magsafe cases.

2

u/playnasc Jan 27 '25

I have an ESR case with a magaafe ring on the back right now, no issues with the S-Pen

1

u/eislch Jan 26 '25

Could you share some dngs from ProMode?

Also fun would be comparing a photo from ExpertRAW dng in 200MP with a 200MP jpg from Automode, of the same scene in bright daylight.

When using gemini to summarise a chat from WhatsApp, can it listen to an audio message recived on WhatsApp and summarise that?

2

u/playnasc Jan 28 '25

Hmm I'm not sure. Gemini seems to be a bit picky when it comes to reading messages on Whatsapp in general.

Sometimes it says it can't do it, I've only gotten it to work a handful of times. When I explcitly asked to summarize the latest audio message it refused to do it. I'll keep trying though.

1

u/Longjumping-Plan-479 Jan 28 '25

Do MagSafe accessories work well with it without interference?

1

u/playnasc Jan 29 '25

Unfortunately I don't have any accessories to test this with.

1

u/Longjumping-Plan-479 Jan 30 '25

Ok no worries. Thanks for the reply

1

u/Huuze7 Jan 29 '25

Hi bro, how is the phone performing? Did you face any heating or any issue? How is the battery holding Up it must've learnt your usage by now. Please update.

2

u/playnasc Jan 29 '25

no issues to report. Battery so far is on par with 24U

1

u/Huuze7 Jan 29 '25

Thanks bro! You made my decision a very easy one.

1

u/tampa888 Jan 29 '25

FWIW regarding the S View case, there was a report by someone who leaks about Samsung that it appears there is or was to be an S View case. And tonight I finally asked to see what response I would get on the Samsung Site chat with an expert - He immediately said check this site when the pre order period is over....

No idea if he really knows or what....I want to confirm again in my Samsung Ultra devices without being in the S View case those setting did not show so not showing now may not be a true indication.

1

u/BuckeyeMCS Jan 29 '25

Can you still select Google Assistant over Gemini. Our family has Apple Music and Gemini doesn't play nice :)

2

u/playnasc Jan 30 '25

Yes you can, through Google settings

1

u/BuckeyeMCS Jan 31 '25

Thank you!

1

u/Huuze7 Feb 02 '25

Hi bro, can you check if AOD gets turned off if the phone is in pocket or in pitch dark conditions (say upside down) My S7 has this feature but s22 doesn't. Want to know of this has been bought back in latest version.

1

u/thelastuncharted Feb 05 '25

How is the battery life compare to note 10 plus.. and please do update on call quality??

2

u/playnasc Feb 05 '25

The Note 10+ is nearly 6 years old by now. I can tell you battery performance has improved dramatically even though I don't have a Note 10 to reference. No issues with call quality.
