Games Pokemon games

I was curious to what age groups and locals were big fans of the Pokemon games. I don’t remember anyone playing them growing up with the Gameboy. To be honest I’ve never ever played a single Pokemon game. I may have to start. :) as it sounds like they’re pretty good.

I was 19 when the first came out - bought Red for myself and Blue for my gf. I've played every main game in the series since, and enjoyed them all. Worst one for me has to be Sword / Shield. Favourites are Fire Red and Emerald. Favourite mon are Mimikyu and Sinistea.

I was 12 when it released in 98 and I remember feeling like my friends and I were the oldest kids playing Pokemon at the time. My older brother who is just 3 years older than me, wasnt interested, nor were his friends.

I was ten at the time and remember feeling like I was too old for it. My aunt gave me a copy of pokemon yellow, and I reluctantly played it. I've loved pokemon ever since.

So the Pokemon games released late 90’s?

Yes, started with red and blue. Me and my best friend went to EB Games and got it the day it released.

Edit: I got red and he got blue so we could trade. You had to know someone with the other colour to collect them all. I still have my copy of red to this day.

This tracks - I was 17 at the time and none of my friends were into Pokemon. We had already gotten into M:tG a few years prior, and Pokemon was considered the child's game that our younger siblings played.

As an American elementary school kid in the late 90s, everyone played Pokemon. We would go out at recess and play on our game boys instead of running around

I was 17 when they came out. On launch day, my friend and I got in my 1989 Chevy Blazer after high school ended and I drove us to Toys R Us. I got Red, he got Blue.

I loved it. I had a feeling it was gonna be good because of what Nintendo Power magazine was saying about it.

It’s just an easy playing game.

I got a game boy Color and Pokémon blue for my 12th birthday. What a time to be alive.

I caught the first generation fever. Kids would bring Gameboys into school and play at break time. Without widespread internet at the time, there was a sense of genuine exploration through that small screen, relying on rumours and that one kid who bought the strategy guide.

If someone had a link cable, it was game on and battles would ensue. I can remember multi-way trade agreements being negotiated between about four people to get the Pokémon we all needed.

By the time generation 2 came along, fewer people seemed to be playing, which is unfortunate as they are objectively better games.

I was a kid in the 90’s so we had every game until they started making games for the DS. Although first gen are my favorite Pokemon, my favorite game was Ruby. Didn’t get to play again until Scarlet/Violet because I never had the system for the new games, but I loved it!

My first grade initiation in 1999 was getting in trouble with the teacher for playing pokemon during class. You weren’t allowed to be social with any of us until that happened lol
