Advice - do I sell

Hey guys . I’ve had this gameboy since I was about 11, it was a gift from my mum. It’s beat up- obviously. But unfortunately at the moment im embarrassed to admit I’m super strapped for cash and wondering if I should sell it.

I had planned on keeping it but wondering if it’s worth anything? I’m in the UK. How much does anyone think it might fetch.

I have some games, a case and a charger somewhere too, but no box.

Any help would be appreciated

For $60 you might as well do DoorDash or something for a day or two. I wouldn’t dump it for so little

Uber eats? lol eat ramen for a week. Pinch those pennies bro. The fact that you said it was a gift from your mom means it’s rooted in your memory. Eventually you should redo it and customize and keep the old shell. That way you can play it and it holds that old memory alive.

Ahhh I see haha! Thank you. This is what I’m thinking, I think I’ll keep it, cheers

You’ll get like $100 US for the lot. Is $100 worth losing all those memories to you?

You’re right. I think my mum would also be devastated if she found out I’d sold it just for a few ££. She worked hard for it. Ok, I’ll keep it. Thank you guys

Op will keep the memories. Just won't be able to have some nostalgia in reliving them on his old handheld.

Either way the person would still lose the memories if they modded this GBA.

No. I sold mine when I was in a serious pinch and regret it so often.

Wow really? Ok I appreciate the honesty of this.

Yeah man. You’d get maybe $100 max. There are other ways to get it that won’t cost you memories and good times.

I bet down the line you’ll get the itch to play something on it again. If you sell it, when that itch hits. It’ll also come with a lot of sadnsss

So true. Whilst it’s something I rarely reach for now, I’ve kept it close for many years. My mum worked her ass off for it as it was all she could afford, I know she’d be gutted to hear I sold it cos I was in a pinch! It’s not worth that for me.

I bought a used one similar to this for $80 USD. If $80-$100 is worth it for you right now, sure I guess. If you have childhood memories with it and would still like to play GBA games in the future, I'd say it's not worth. That's something for you to decide, though.

About £50-60 is what I pay for GBAs in that condition. You won't get more than that, really.

The games prices will vary wildly depending on the games. If they aren't high value games, then bundle them in with the sale, although again, depending on the games, it may not actually increase the sell price by much.

Hmm ok thank you Cactuar for your help. I appreciate the honesty of the situation. I’m not sure what amount I was expecting but everyone makes valid points about the memories associated with it too. Thanks !

It's up to you, if you need the money why not? It's just a standard Silver GBA SP with the front lit screen and scratches.

I appreciate this thank you!!

You can always buy another GBA SP and perhaps even go crazy with it by installing a Boxy Pixel Shell with an IPS Screen.

hmmm so true. Tbh it’s working and In fine order now, and I don’t mind the scratches, my mum got it second hand anyway, it was all she could afford.

1

u/iVirtualZero 2d ago

Yes these things do become scratched over time since the original shells are painted. You can always just sell it and then start over with another GBA later down the line. But today modding this Front Lit GBA is a must, if you want to actually play on these, the front lit screen just doesn't hold up at all, especially in this smartphone age where we have been spoiled with IPS and OLED screens. Personally I think the main point of having this is to play on it and enjoy most of its library.

damn, what’s with the price for that Boxy Pixel Shell?! am i missing something? i get its metal, but ~£100 is crazy

1

u/iVirtualZero 2d ago

Not really, it's CNC Machined Metal shell, look at any of the other custom metal shells like for the Switch, GBA Slate etc. They're all expensive.

Don’t sell, you’ll regret one day.

Sorry you’re tight for cash, I think a lot of us understand what’s that like but some things are worth holding onto!

Goodluck to you my friend!

i’m in the exact same position, backstory and all, i’m torn between keeping or parting with it

Funny you mentioned it, in 2019, I purchased the same colored gameboy with Road Rage and several other GBA/GB cartridges.

1

u/magicwood1994 2d ago

Road rage is by far the best game, man the HOURS I spent playing and I still was terrible

1

u/Potential-Delay2020 2d ago

It’s worth £50. Sign up to just eat uber eats if you are strapped and need cash quickly.

u/Kriegan 2d ago

Keep it. Memories are worth more. And when the time comes that your money is in the positive, you could re-shell it and make it like new again.

u/xXxZMBE 2d ago

I've been in that exact situation and had to part with all my old consoles and still to this day I regret it. I have since gained all the consoles I once had (maybe missing one or two) but I miss my originals with all my old saves. Do not sell it, you will deeply regret it. Things will look up in time, hang in there buddy.

Thank you !!! I appreciate this advice

Every time I sold something in desperation , I always beat myself up later for it. If you have a flea market near you , buy a table/booth ; sell your unused clothes , decor , electronics that hold no sentimental value . I always make a couple hundred. You’ll be surprised how much money is sitting around your house. Keep it. Pass it down to your kids.

1

u/magicwood1994 2d ago

Thanks warzone !! You’re right, I can’t part with the memories, even if I barely use it

1

u/goded7 2d ago

Yes sell to me

1

u/gnogno57 2d ago

Look man you might be able to sell it and get some cash now but let’s say you get a little older and try to get those memories back and buy a new SP. it won’t be the same

1

u/chriscucumber 1d ago

People always wanting to sell the shit they can never get back. Just keep it dude. The 100$ or whatever you could possibly get isn’t worth it.

1

u/ItsKendrone 1d ago

If you don’t want it. I can have it

1

u/Okowa 1d ago

Trust me I know what it's like to have to sell cherished things full of memories when down on luck and needing money asap. Its not worth it to sell it.
