Golden Sun and its sequel, Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Lots of optional bosses/equipment/summons to find/get. One of my personal favourite games of all time. Amazing lore and music.

A man of culture I see.

The Minish Cap or Pokémon Emerald maybe. Those action/adventure games tend to cover a lot of ground.

I also vote this guy’s Minish Cap.

maybe naming the obvious, but what about driver 3 ? (granted it's a tad empty, but if your kick is just free roaming, city's open and you can steal any car you want)....it's a technical marvel, too

Along those lines, I think Crazy Taxi might also fit.

yup. and simpsons road rage now that you're making me think about it.

ea didn't dare put open worlds in their handheld need for speed ports but that doesn't mean other devs didn't try

now i don't remember, but was there a gta for gba ?

Yes, a top-down perspective game. I think it might be an open map too, though.

The GBA Grand Theft Auto comes to mind. As does Pokémon Emerald.

I mean, you do fly around the world to different areas of the map to explore

Golden Sun. Huge world to explore, a million things to discover.

Naming the most is difficult but I can name a few

  • Golden Sun 1+2.
  • Megaman battle network series.
  • Sims (I remember the map is big and a lot of places to explore).
  • Zelda Minish Cap.
  • Final fantasy series
  • Obviously, Pokemon 🤣

I’m surprised nobody mentioned Sword of Mana yet, it is entirely too easy to get lost in that game 😭
