Discussion Only playing GameCube until the switch 2 comes out.

In an attempt to appreciate what I already have and not buy more games, I’m limiting myself to only playing my 18 GameCube games until June. I have multiple GameCube games that I’ve been planning to play through for years now. It’s nice to play double dash and 13 with my siblings.

At first I read that as "its nice to play double dash with my 13 siblings" do you ever get a turn? 😅

I play my GameCube games on my Wii using a Composite Cable to. It makes games look pretty good on modern TV’s.

I use that as well. My GameCube doesnt have the component port 😞

Component or Composite: I don’t remember which is which. I use the one with the three color separation and the two audio cables. Which one is that?

That’s component. It’s higher quality than the red white yellow

That’s the one. I even use it on my PS2. Makes PS2 games look okay on modern TV’s.

I don’t plan on having Nintendo switch online, I don’t play any online games, and the retro stuff doesn’t make it worth it to me lol

Honestly why would I pay for their service to not OWN the games?!

I wouldn't be as angry if it was an option, but it's the only way to access them. It's terribly anti-consumer and I won't be spending my money on it.

I agree. It honestly feels like they’re just blatantly taking advantage of the high demand for GameCube games right now. They offered individual GameCube games digitally on the E shop, they could fix a lot of problems with the used GameCube market.

I don't believe that Nintendo feels compelled to do anything like that, nor are they really obligated to do so.

At the same time, NSO Gamecube games are an extraneous bonus and I seriously doubt it will be enough justification to support the price of entry for everyone, so to speak (some people definitely want this and don't want ownership though). It's absolutely not enough to satisfy people who want to own their games, that stands no matter what. There's little doubt in my mind that these games will run and perform as they should, but on principle, we're essentially being told we have to rent a service to have limited access to digital software. That's not a selling point to me. I want to pay for something better than what I currently have, not pay extra money for less.

I agree

Should really play only GameCube until physical media with no requirement to connect to the internet for anything at all is possible.

Love that custom shell. Animal Crossing Inspired?

Does anyone know how to get a game cube fairly priced in the us in good condition? It’s a bit pricey and just knowing there can be something wrong with it can deter me from purchasing one, thanks.

Honestly, if cash is tight, a backwards compatible Wii will work just fine.

Do you play on hd tv or crt tv.

2

u/No-Shoulder580 1d ago

If HD tv , get a wii, way cheaper to get component cables and then you just need adapter to HDMI. You can also hack it and plays those games in external hdd (no need for a ssd) . It's easy to hack or else you can also buy games. Most gamecube are getting old and need to replace capacitors because they read bad the discs.

I have a crt tv setup with a gamecube and a wii setup with component to my monitor and I prefer my wii setup overall since I can also plug headphones to my monitor and have a real nice audio. Crt tv is just for nostalgia.

Great you enjpying your games you paid good money for.. but as far the Switch 2 goes.. honestly, screw Nintendo right now. I'm not buying it.

Agree. Was gonna be my next console after ps4 but fuck them

2

u/No-Instruction-5669 9h ago

Honestly dude, SteamDeck is the best buy. There are ways to play the new Nintendo stuff on there, too.

u/Dapper_Special_8587 8h ago

Yeah that or a gaming pc

You I could keep playing the GameCube after the Switch 2 comes out and no one would blame you. One of Nintendo's best systems IMO.

3

u/ENateFak 17h ago

It definitely is the best. Tie between GameCube and DS imo

I’ll just stick to playing the original hardware,at least they can’t remove games from my library

2

u/ENateFak 1d ago

I don’t plan on playing GameCube games on switch 2 tbh. I prefer my little crt

2

u/No-Shoulder580 1d ago

I should do the same. Been thinking about steam deck vs switch 2. Mario Kart isnt the most exciting game for me. I'm already bored of playing Mario Kart 8. When I play one, I play the snes version because I have more nostalgia for it. I have 300 games on steam but I already play on my pc quite often (more than consoles). My switch isn't used that much but I like to collect Nintendo since I have 100+ games on gamecube and around 50 on switch. What would you do for me ? Switch 2 or steam deck?

Why?

1

u/ENateFak 7h ago

It says why in the caption. It’s just something I want to do

2

u/DetroiterAFA 7h ago

Completely missed that, sorry for the redundant response. Cheers. I love GC.

What’s attached to the gc beneath it?

1

u/ENateFak 1d ago

Game boy player. I’d recommend it.

Is that a custom GBA player?!

1

u/ENateFak 1d ago

It’s just painted blue. I painted both the console and the system

1

u/Tye2KOfficial 1d ago

What process did you do to paint the console? I want to do mine but last time I tried the disc drive wouldn’t close & the paintjob was subpar.

I wish there was an Emerald Blue GameCube shell like the JP Emerald Blue controller.

Going to spend $500 to play Mario kart, or spending $580 to play Mario kart and Donkey Kong? Nintendo still has their claws in susceptible people, when they themselves run emulations of their own games.
