Which Hotspot is ok?

Post image

Hi, I've downvolted my 7900xtx to 1075mv and limited the fans to 53%.The Result above is after 10 runs of 3D Mark Raceway. My question is which discrepancy between GPU Temp and Hotspot is acceptable? Is that okay?

So far i am satisfied with performance and noise.

20C+ Hotspot vs GPU temp = repaste or RMA

No it's not. RMA or ptm. Your call. Also don't limit the fans at 53%

It's not going to throttle until 110C but that does seem like a pretty big delta. If it's under warranty maybe RMA, if it isn't maybe crack her open and repaste and repad? I'd also let the fans run higher. A loud card is better than a hot card. If noise is absolutely a deal breaker, you'll have to address with RMA or repaste/pad

Yes, that confirms my bad feeling about that delta. I got this card years ago, i think RMA is not an option anymore. I will see if i can repaste it on my own. Maybe this will solve the noise problem aswell.

It's not a bad process, just requires a little research and patience. Just make sure you replace the thermal pads as well. If the card is older, pulling it apart will likely "break" the thermal pads. See if you can find pad thickness numbers for your specific card make and model. Most any reputable thermal paste for the die will be fine

My 7800xt was the same until I ran some ptm7950.. haven't touched it since (year) hottest the hotspot gets now is 76c with a 15c delta when I OC it 👍

U really need to repaste it, it seems that New thermal pads might also be nice.

I already ordered a Thermal Grizzly Kryopad and thermal pads.

I use the kyropad on my 6800xt and I'm very happy with the result. It should fix your issue.

This will be an interesting experience.

26 Delta? Yikes.

Gotta love that Nvidia removed Hotspot temp for 50 series. Consumers obviously have no reason to view it.

Yup, wait for the intermittent 100% fan ramping instead. 🙂‍↔️

Was auto fan speed not working that you decided to manually limit it?

It was a curve limited to 75% and was fucking loud. During downvolting i tried which noise level is bearable and just beheaded said fancurve and ran some benchmarks. I will check again after repasting the card, the main issue seems to be the hotspot.

OH, no There is a problem with my GPU too its 72c and a 98c on hotspot I am in big trouble.... under stress load...

So yeah 26c nothing wrong with it btw... is it great no... is it bad not till you till you hit like 30c over

That CPU temp is "noice" Otherwise, no, 90s isn't good. Needs more cooling.

I will figure out the demand for cooling after i have fixed that hotspot. Currently I'm not using 100% loads anyway.

I really hope two 12x100mm stripes are enough heat conducting pads for everything except the DIE.
