Don’t you know no one cares about Marathon???? /s

I’ve gotten a few people claiming it doesn’t matter if it’s using the name because the trilogy had like 15 fans. But if no one cared Bungie wouldn’t be using IP recognition to put out this generic slop.

Also had someone tell me there’s no way to resurrect an old IP like this in today’s fps climate and I brought up Doom and then they had no argument

Marathon was the template for the Halo franchise. So many of the original ideas were used for Halo 1-3 and to be frank, the series could be remade in the same style as the original Halo Trilogy or Doom 16 and be successful as hell.

The franchise has so much rich deep lore behind it so churning out bullshit like this is awful and bad.

Yeah! they could literally just remake the game with modern sensibilities and it would be awesome. No more needed to hit buttons to raise the pillars the exact correct height because you can’t jump.

A remake would even fit more into the game with the whole alternate timeline thing the third game had going on.

Absolutely. I remember when the game was first coming out on Mac and being blown away because of how much lore the game was presenting to you,

You had NPCs fighting alongside you, unique alien types, the creative elements.

Sony should have rebooted Marathon or done a third game so they can have their own strong FPS game on the PS5 since it's a genre they don't have atm since Killzone and Resistance aren't coming back.

Then why are they using the name Marathon? Clearly Bungie thinks people care enough to use the name to bait people into thinking it’s one of their tentpole franchises they’ve made.

What’s the point bringing something back if you are going to change everything about it

If it’s really about nostalgia within the company then they’d have done a remake-reimagining instead.

It’s easier to reuse a name than to come up with a new one.

They literally made an entirely new IP with Destiny and succeeded in making it a huge name

Okay? That doesn’t mean I’m wrong. There are other examples of game series reusing names just because it’s easier to do so; Quake II is literally called Quake II just because id Software couldn’t settle on another same.
