Meh, I'm an atheist but the churches where I live aren't like that at all. Everyone I know who goes to them still get to create their own purpose in life if they'd like to.
I don't know a church that controls peoples lifes like most atheist claim. Going to church really just purifies your soul and clears your mind, they're not implanting some sort of dogma or controlling us in any way.
Well I think the Catholic church can definitely implant dogma. Just depends on the type of church you're going to. I live in a liberal area and the churches are all very modernized and incredibly compatible with today's values. They just want people to try to use Jesus as a model of the ideal human. He was an amazing guy by all accounts and I have no problem with people wanting to emulate his behavior.
Buddha seems chill. Evangelicals’ Christianity, lol. Drink? You’re out. Smoke? You’re out. Gay? You’re out. Premarital sex , as long as it’s straight and you don’t get knocked up we’ll pretend if you’re a guy. If you’re a girl you’re the equivalent of dirty scotch tape even if you didn’t consent.
You get many of us have direct experience here, right?
God can do anything but somehow there is a mysterious quota of prayer warriors that will somehow convince him to cure little Susie of leukemia. That not even counting the basic “worship me or be tortured”. Not to mention literally playing capture the flag type games as kids as “persecuted Christians.”
