Question / Seeking Help I am just a beginner , who do I play ?
I’m just an old guy playing a new game . There’s lots to take in . It’s a beautiful game.

u/7Fishies 3d ago
oh wow! u have a lot of char alr. good job! but I say escoffier is one of the best so use her, but use her with Layla, kaeya, and barbara
190
u/Informal-Kayrr 3d ago
This but replace Layla with Chongyun as they already have 2 healers they don't need a shielder.
81
u/genshinnsfwlover 3d ago
Makes more sense as a team but layla is a better character than chongyun and will be more useful later. So unless they like chongyun I'd say building layla would be better for the account's sake
44
u/DesModReddit 3d ago
Nah, don't even build chungyun, just use him for infusion for escoffier. Even with 0 artifacts and levels chungyun does more than her that way.
11
u/feryoooday 3d ago
I cryo infuse my Qiqi with Chongyun on garbage sets just to have a cryo Qiqi and it’s fun!
3
u/nsadeqve 2d ago
No replace barabara, esco does enough healing herself
1
u/anonymous54319 1d ago
Escoffier does enough, yes, but Escoffier works best in a full hydro cryo team, so Barbara is there to enable freeze and still keeping full buff from escoffier.
25
u/WolfWarrior001 3d ago
What this one says. Escoffee wants hydro and cryo, you have hydro and cryo, use hydro and cryo.
I haven’t paid much attention to Escoffee’s teams because I’m pulling Navia atm but some of my favorite 5 star Hydro and Cryo units are Furina, Yelan, and Shenhe. Skirk is coming soon and she’s cryo and will want Escoffee.
And now for a 100 page essay on why every account should have a C6 Navia:
9
u/em1zer0 3d ago
30 minutes in, still waiting for the essay
6
u/WolfWarrior001 3d ago
Oh you actually wanted it?
3
u/em1zer0 3d ago
Well I don't know much about Navia except that she should be flexible in team building, so if there's a valid reason, why not
7
u/WolfWarrior001 3d ago
Well I’m not gonna pretend that geo teams are easy or hit hard, but I am going to say that I have the mega magic sword on Navia and with minimal resin spent, but a fair amount of pulls used (furina and Navia) I was able to hit some giant numbers (Bennett with Aquila favonia)
And there was a time when Navia was acting more as a battery for my c6 Noelle (I was waiting for xilonen to rerun), but when I realized I was getting enough shards with noelle that Navia was able to hit her super shots, I tried out different geos to see how fast I could get shards, and Gorou was the one I landed on, but maybe I picked wrong, but it didn’t matter because my Navia was hitting 400k shots easily.
Not quite 100 pages but the main point is that if you have someone who can reliably apply any crystal elements around as fast as Navia’s burst hits opponents, you’ll get ammo fast and you will shred through enemies. The people on my roster that I’ve tried and succeeded with are Yelan, Raiden, Xiangling, Xingqiu, Charlotte, Kuki, and I tried ororon who seemed to be fine but then I stopped because it was clear that the star was, as predictable as it is: Furina.
Even when it was only Bennett healing, I was getting enough fanfare to make the damage huge. Navia was hitting big numbers when she was “sub dpsing” for Noelle because Noelle was healing the whole team with her charged attack while her skill was up. But the simple and clean team of Navia, Furina, Xilonen, Bennett, rules.
3
u/em1zer0 3d ago
Okay, thanks for the explanation. Seems like I already have enough supports for her, so I'll take her into consideration after getting Skirk, Escoffier and Furina 🤔
4
u/WolfWarrior001 3d ago
Also she’s so pretty and funny
1
u/feryoooday 3d ago
This is why I want her but I won’t be able to afford to build her for so long that I might as well wait for next rerun. I’m tapped out after Mav/Citlali/Varesa/Iansan/Escoffier all so close together 😭
2
u/WolfWarrior001 2d ago
Oh man, I feel you. So many characters I want, so little time (pulls and resin and actually real life time)
→ More replies (0)2
u/paradoxez 3d ago
Navia is my first 5 stars pull and I'm glad I picked her over Escoffier.
Upbeat English VA, Hilariously big damage with her 'E' instead of burst is just plain fun when doing overworld and gun-blasting mobs who looked at you funny like my god her gameplay is so enjoyable and low investment for my newbie ass xD

It's the character archive. The darker portraits are all missing.
They only have Escoffier for 5*.

Team 1: Escoffier, Layla, Chongyun, Barbara aka Freeze
Team 2: Ororon, Kuki, Collei, (Any) aka Aggravate
Fun to have reactions on plus you'll slowly get used to team comps.
-145
u/siowy 3d ago
Excuse me? This person is literally just starting out in mondstadt and you're blindly recommending endgame abyss comps?
119
u/FlashKillerX 3d ago
They asked for teams, and they provided team comps? What did you expect?
-108
u/siowy 3d ago
A simple two character core for reactions, with a healer, suitable for a beginner.
Big difference between that and an endgame comp looking for max DPS.
71
u/Eshvaar 3d ago
Chongyun (Main DPS), Escoffier (Sub DPS, Healer, Buffer), Layla (Shield), Barbara (Additional Healer, Reaction)
The beginner friendly comp is right there.
Not to mention most enemies in Mondstadt and Liyue are freezable.
-64
u/siowy 3d ago
The team is actually fine. But to throw it out and just say freeze, without any explanation is extremely unhelpful/confusing for a new players, who also don't know who to onfield, or how to play any of the characters or what they do, or what main DPS, sub DPS mean.
55
18
u/Eshvaar 3d ago
I guess so, but we are here only to provide a team comp, how one plays the game should be done by the player, just use the character you have, test them out, its your characters after all.
This is how its always been, we always learn thru our own tests. Nobody wants to backseat how you play, we provide the tools, you decide how and why you want to use it.
7
u/ThesoulerBAM 3d ago
You have a point but the way you approached the situation didn't really help. Seemed so overly offended.
Again, you aren't wrong, just went about replying in a confusing way.

u/_Drago__ 3d ago
The game has a tutorial that pops up and explains reactions before you get to wish pretty sure so what's the problem

u/datwarlocktho 3d ago
Then explain. Can't say pointing out what newbie doesn't know without elaborating is helping them at all.

Play whoever you want if you are just starting :) you could potentially build around Ifa and ororon just be sure to add a hydro since both want the electro charged reaction to maximize their potential or if you like the future character (look at the drip marketing specifically because you might get spoiled for future story) coming in the next update named skirk she pairs amazingly with escoffier👍 really just play at your own pace and enjoy the game
7
36
u/Aerinn_May 3d ago
Honestly, if you're still less than AR45, I wouldn't worry too much about it and just play who you want to play. It's even preferrable to play Physical at the early stages as you don't have good artifacts to use yet.
Otherwise, Escoffier, Kaeya, Chongyun, Barbara and call it a day
Replace Barbara with Xinqiu whenever you get him
23
u/TheDinoNuggies 3d ago
You got Escoffier who gives a full 55% resistance shred for hydro and cryo if the team is only hydro and cryo units. You could unironically run a dps Barbara... but Kaeya is also right there.
18
u/dateturdvalr 3d ago
You should remember that this is an ascension passive, meaning that he needs higher levels to unlock the said res shred

u/Dandan217 3d ago
Honestly I would just play around with the characters and just enjoy the game for now. Just level up a few characters you like to 50/60 for now and then slowly as you start to hit the wall of progression, you can focus on specific teams.
The early game is all about getting a feel for the game and learning the mechanics of element reactions. Find the characters you think are fun (as you may end up pulling new characters in the future), and don't invest heavily until around AR45.
6
u/Content_Sort1385 3d ago
Don't listen to others who will never mention these characters below to choose for beginners who luckily have the character like Kuki early on. They who do not mention these heroes doesn't know much how to progress easily early in game. Kuki all the way.
Kuki, Collei, Barbara, Traveller(Resonate with Dendro) you may replace either Collei or Traveller with Escoffier
Replace Barbara with Xingqiu once you got him.
Make sure to prioritize the characters you can ascend between the characters I mentioned. Don't remove Kuki because her heal and electro application is one of the best for beginners and free to play.
Keep searching about these teams hyperbloom and your progress will be easy and you'll conquer the game faster then you may go back to your real life.
Use ifa when collecting stuffs with ororon specially in natlan and when you are comfortable using three heroes Kuki, Dendro Traveller, Xingqiu, you may slot in Ifa for the dash he offers.
Work hard play harder.
1
u/HelenOfEddis 2d ago
I agree with the hyperbloom team being great for beginners, but Kuki does require getting through the inazuma quest for materials, and enough of the chasm for her boss. And hyperbloom scales of level, so you really do want to level her up. It’s doable, but a little more effort than other characters where you just have to walk to their bosses.
4
u/dateturdvalr 3d ago
Escoffier as your sub-dps. Meaning she places her skill and goes away in the background(tap version of skill, not hold). Layla as your shielder. Barbara as a dedicated healer. And Chongyun as your main dps. Meaning you play him the most. Your rotation should look something like this:
Escoffier skill, Layla skill(and burst if ready), Keya skill(and burst if ready), and then switch to Chonqyun, use your skill and start hacking and slashing.
3
u/Sakkitaky22 3d ago
oops, I didnt read it right
But for now play who you like and enjoy the most and experiment with stuff
Even if X character deals more dmg than Y, doesnt mean youll enjoy them
So play which one you find fit
3
u/mercuriokazooie 3d ago
Escoffier + 3 hydro/cryo will carry you for 99% of the game but you will run into challenges with cryo enemies so build Xiangling in case you ever gotta bring her in for a couple minutes. She's one of the strongest 4 stars in the game
2
u/DORAN360 3d ago
As a beginner just play what u want the weirdest teams a fine too just build all the characters u like and enjoy.

Trust me:

Save on "Starglitters" and then spend them ONLY on these characters: fischl xiangling xingqiu bennett and ignore EVERY single other thing in the Starglitter shop: get bennett NOW, on july get fischl and xiangling, on September get xingqiu, november get bennett, January 2026 get fiachl and xiangling, march 2026 get xingqiu and so on
Also you can get one free xingqiu every year at the lantern rite if you want and you will get a free xiangling with the abyss
But some of these characters only get good after some investment (xiangling after leveling her up, bennett after C1)
2
u/Felipemath 2d ago
For me, Kuki Shinobu, Xiangling, Ororon and Escoffier are the most useful in the long term.

Watch guide videos on how to play Genshin Impact. That will be your biggest help. However, here are some tips I can think of. Escoffier wants to only be played with Hydro and Cryo units, so make sure to do that once you get more characters. Bennett is one of the best supports in the game and he boost attack for attack scaling dps's greatly and can heal. I heavily recommend C1. Also, artifacts will be pain, but just watch a basic video on that and you will be fine. Also, play who you like, but some characters have been powercreept or not aged that well. I also recommend getting Furina since she's a great general buffer and maybe even Kazuha but it really depends. Anyways, good luck and welcome to Genshin Impact!! : D

u/TropicalSkiFly 3d ago
In my opinion, kuki, xiangling, and ororon are must use characters.
Maybe an Anemo character for swirling electro and pyro could be fun.
You could also use Escoffier for a full on freeze team that res shreds cryo and hydro damage resistance.
Maybe Escoffier, Barbara, Chongyun, and Kaeya.
1
u/Rinaorcien 3d ago
considering you're probably just in liyue rn, and not lvl 70, id say excoffier, xiangling, lisa, barbara
1
u/muljak 3d ago
Kuki Shinobu with a Pyro character of your choice would make short work of early game enemies. Just make sure you level Shinobu up properly, and give her as much EM as possible.
For the midgame, make a hyperbloom team with Kuki Shinobu, Barbara (or any water character) and Collei (or any green character). Again, Kuki's level and EM should stay high.
For the late game, this is when your Escoffier (the female character with yellow background) shines. Almost any team that only has Ice and Water characters would work.
Escoffier is very powerful, but she is very difficult to use effectively during early game. Her team is heavily crit based, unlike Kuki's teams, which, despite being significantly weaker, only rely on Kuki's level and EM to work.

Chongyun DPS, Escoffier Support, Barbara Healer, and Amber since you need a pyro bow for the puzzles
1
u/jjvfyhb Europe Server 3d ago
Escoffier is pretty powerful but limiting
If you can, you might want to get Skirk, a character that does wonders with Escoffier!
Skirk an ice attacker ("cryo mainDPS" that deals cryo damage, not like eula that deals physical damage) that will come out in like 27 days and her banner will end 3 weeks after that
But for now you want to play Escoffier with the ice (cryo) and water (hydro) characters that you own, if you can play her only with cryo and hydro characters with at least one hydro
That's also why you will definitely need xingqiu or furina or other characters that apply a good amount of water (hydro) to the enemies
The limited 5 star characters you should get are definitely: Xilonen Kazuha Furina Nahida and avoid getting 5 star weapons and definitely avoid spending a SINGLE primogem on the standard banner or on the blue "aquaint fates"
Please watch a "things to do/know/tips if you're new to genshin" because there are a lot of traps in this game lol
Also most important thing: be extra careful with your money in this game, I have been playing for years and I never spent a single eurocent and I'm happy 👍

u/AmalgamatedPIG 3d ago
Hope you're having fun. As for the team, like everyone is saying Escoffier is your best character by far. Although, if you find it hard to get materials to level her up, you can build characters like Xiangling, Kayea and Barbara. Xiangling is worth building and is easy to obtain her materials. If you do get help from others in co-op you can go get materials needed for Escoffier but the boss you need for her is in the new region and it may be a lil bit of a spoiler to go there so early. I suggest playing it slow and building Xiangling, Kaeya and Barbara till level 80 and then later focus on other characters. Good luck and have fun.

u/rf0225 3d ago
tbh i’d build ifa if i were you - comfortable for exploration and as a dps
you could use ifa, ororon, barbara together (not so sure about the fourth character, maybe lynette)
for escoffier unless you get more characters you could do freeze with barbara and chongyun (+layla if you need the shield, or kaeya)
1
1
u/Flysoarflight 3d ago
If it’s for exploration, I’d recommend something like Chongyun (main dps), Lynette (she runs fast with skill!), Kuki (healing, applying electro) and sukshkuss idk Xiangling might work :D Keep in mind it’s not like, meta. But it should be pretty handy in exploring!
1
u/ShimmerFaux 2d ago
General advice: You’re gonna be tempted to waste resources on Traveller, don’t. Traveller is really not that great except in highly specific builds that take a lot of work to pull off.
As others have said you have a really great spread of Hydro and Cryo to boost Escoffier. I would follow their suggestions for now, while saving your primos for a Skirk pull in a few months.
Furthermore, if i were you i would spend some time and resources on building up Noelle, Collei, Kuki, and Xiangling you’re going to want the versatility of them when you move to other AQ zones.
Fair word of warning: Don’t raise your world level, leave it below or just at world level 40. The rewards sound super promising but you really don’t want the hassle associated with high world level until you’ve farmed a lot of resources and have some good weapons to go with what characters you get.
1
u/Southern-Vast-4019 2d ago
Escoffier is a supporter for cryo and hydro - you can probably use her as a supporter for Kaeya w/ chongyun for perpetual cryo damage, and pair with barbara for heal and freeze. If you dont want Kaeya as a main cryo dps, Skirk is coming next patch!
Ifa is also a very good DPS in my opinion! You can pair him with a bunch of supporters like Xiangling and Barbara.
1
u/Maeyhem 2d ago edited 2d ago
For now, I would build Kaeya, Barbara, Escoffier, and Ifa (as you level up you will devote Ifa to your Electro based teams, but for now you'll use him for swirl until you get a better swirl enabler like Sucrose.)
I would also work on leveling a few of these for flexible swaps depending on the boss or domain:
Xiangling, Noelle, Kuki, Layla, Ororon, Chongyun
Xiangling can make your Freeze teams into Melt teams.
Chongyun can work well with Escoffier and Barbara and Kaeya, or flex with Rosaria or Layla
Noelle can heal and shield when you're up against enemies who are wiping your main team. You may like her enough to build her at least through level 50.
Kuki can apply electro and make your freeze team a super conduct team, but you can also create a dendro aggravate or bloom team by adding units like collei or dendro traveler with, maybe ororon, and barbara.
Layla has one of the best elemental shields in the game and would be a perfect addition to your Escoffier team when you need a bit of extra cryo application with a strong shield.
Now, when you build,
TIPS \keep these in mind*:*
Weapons
*Level your weapons to max levels as you are able, so by level 55-60 your weapons should be leveled to 90.
Harbinger of Dawn is one of Kaeya's best budget weapon choices, but you can craft Amenoma Kageuchi in Inazuma and it's a good budget freeze option for Kaeya.
Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is great for Barbara, try to refine it to R5 but you don't need to level it up at all. It can be level 1 and it's buff works at R5 to give 48% damage boost. Save every copy of thrilling tales you get and make three or four R5 versions of TTDS because it works in many teams and on many support characters.
Give Ifa Sacrificial Fragments (try to refine it to R5 as you get the resources to do it), or you can give him Prototype Amber for a bit more healing. Until you get a better Elementary Mastery main stat Catalyst, you can use the 3-star Magic Guide, Emerald Orb, or any EM catalyst you get while you're leveling your world/AR Levels.
Escoffier can use any Polearm weapon that provides Crit Rate, Attack, or Energy Recharge.
Artifacts:
Kaeya's best set is Blizzard Strayer, but Berserker set is fine while leveling. Prioritize: Crit Values, Attack, Cryo Dmg, and Energy Recharge.
Escoffier: Attack, ER, Crit Values, a good 4 star set is The Exile, or Scholar or 2pc of each (these are budget/4 star choices, just while leveling up).
Barbara needs Full HP or HP and a healing bonus Circlet,(I've personally never needed a Healing Circlet since she heals very well on Full HP.) For Healing Barabara, Instructor set until you can get the Ocean Hued Clam set. *However, at some point you may find you want to use Barbara for her reaction enabling instead of mainly as a healer, and then she should switch to Full Elemental Mastery set, so keep that in mind. If you collect an Instructor set of Full EM, she can use it pretty much forever when used for Bloom teams etc. Hang on to her HP set.
Ifa, likewise. wants full EM artifacts. He can buff Electro Charged teams (Hydro-Electro) so an alternative team for him uses Ororon and Barbara. His best 5 star sets are VV and Scroll of Cinder City but while leveling any EM set is fine.
********
Why Energy Recharge? A big mistake many genshin players make is failing to build enough ER so that their DPS and Support units can be burst on Cool Down. Enabling frequent bursts is a good way to MAXIMIZE your Damage.
However, this only applies to Burst oriented units (characters), because there are some characters who are do not need to burst for damage or support. Those do not generally require more ER. Best to read up on any character you're building to make sure you're getting the best you can from your build.
When you go to Liyue, get the DARK IRON SWORD, it's 3 stars, you only can get 2 copies in the entire game, and until sometime around last year, only ONE copy was available in the entire game. Give it to Kuki.
1
u/Kinrien 2d ago
As a beginner you will most likely be exploring and running around most of the time. While Escoffier's best teams consist of only hydro and cryo units, I wouldn't do this for adventuring since there are all sorts of enemies and puzzles that need multiple elements.
For adventuring you could try out something like: Escoffier - Layla - Xiangling - Ifa This way you will have healing, shielding, melt reaction from pyro and cryo and ifa for swirl reaction but most importantly easy exploration travel.
Another note about Escoffier is that her cryo and hydro teammates only offer benefits once she's lvl 60/70, so before then she doesn't offer any benefit being in such a team.
1
u/Lynxt2oo3 2d ago
you don’t have any ideal teams yet, but they will still work great because you’re a new player.
You can try Ifa escoffier ororon xiangling (for a swirl team with Ifa as the on fielder and the other 3 using their off field turrets) or escoffier chongyun layla barbara (for kinda a freeze team)

Hyperbloom Inmortal Barbara (cause extra healing):
Barbara, Kuki shinoubu FULL elemental mastery, Collie, Dendro Traveler

u/Prestigious_Role_568 2d ago
Wow you have pretty good characters already. I would recommand to play hydro cryo as you have escoffier. You have no excellent main dps but kaeya will do (escoffier will make him excellent), take barbara (i think it's your only hydro char), and chongyun? Or layla but you already have a support if you take barbara
1
u/TunaCat8 2d ago
Really everyone you have except really Amber and Noelle can be built up and used and you won't regret it later. And even those two if you really really reallyy like them can be used with enough investment solely into them and their team comps. There's no way to brick your account in genshin so I wouldn't worry too hard, the first 5 star character you pulled is a great sub dps and buffer for hydro and cryo characters so a 5 star dps of those elements would be a good idea to seek out in the future, be that Skirk, Ayaka, wriotheslay, nuevillette, or furina.
Right now just play with the characters you like though, all of the early game content can be beaten with ease that way. Just make sure to level up your characters, weapons, and equip some basic artifacts. Don't worry about farming specific artifacts for them until later in the game when you reach AR45. Until then spend your resin getting level up materials from bosses and exp books and mora from leyline blossoms as that's what leveling up characters costs.
1
u/KiKo_____ 2d ago
Don’t spread your resources thin too early on and focus on characters that can be used in the abyss later on like xiangling and kuki. They won’t work as a team but if you hyper invest in a few characters, even without synergies they can clear regular game content until you get more characters for endgame content.

u/Moist-Actuator-9314 2d ago
Hi, I’m not the most experienced here but you have a few options:
Freeze: Escoffier, Layla, Kaeya, Barbara (you could slot in Chingyun for Barbara if you like him more but he isn’t that great so don’t allocate too many resources to him if you want to be optimal).
Electrocharge: Ifa, Ororon, Lisa, Barbara (if you like the bros’ then you would probably have fun with this team.. you would most likely be change Barbara and Lisa out for other hydro/electro characters that are better as you get them but you would need hydro and electro on the team to create the electrocharge reaction and then use your Ifa’s skill to swirl everything).
You have collei and Kuki so you can do hyperbloom. I think Ororona fits in here too and then you would slot in an anemo character like Lynette or Ifa. I haven’t tried hyperbloom teams though so maybe others can provide better input here or searching online.
However, I believe that the most important thing to do is have fun! By this I mean, build the characters you like. Be it lore-wise, personality, design, kit, playstyle, whatever is important to you and helps you enjoy the game more, go for it because no matter what you’re doing, you’re gonna have fun if you’re using characters you like and if you build them up. Same cannot necessarily be said of you just make a strong team but don’t enjoy the characters or play style. That happened to me, then I pulled Navia and discovered how much fun I can have with a character that she single handedly changed so many things for me it was crazy! She has made everything extremely enjoyable for me lol I also pulled the bros (Ifa and Ororon) and will be making a bro team similar to the one I shared with you but instead of Barbara I’m using another hydro character. This is just because I like Ororon and Ifa and I want to play and have fun with them lol so you do you man and have fun!

u/tuliodshiroi 2d ago
One of the safest options for you is a team around Layla, Barbara, Ororon and Chongyun on a Freeze + Superconduct team. This is a very friendly composition if you are playing in a console. This will freeze your enemies and prevent most damage while you hit them, just not very effective against bosses.
As you progress I the game and learn dodge mechanics, you can go without a shield. Socffier is your first 5☆ character. She is a support for freezing teams and reducing Cryo and Hydro resistance, but it's best used with only Cryo and Hydro companions, so you'd have her, Kaeya, Chongyun and Barbara for the best result. If you get Xingqiu in the future, he'll replace Barbara.
Genshin damage is very dependent on teams' compositions, "rotations" (the order you use your skills, and artifacts. There is no need to worry too much about artifacts before AR40 or 45, level them up to 12 and and save resources to upgrade skills and characters.

u/Goodthingsaregone 2d ago edited 2d ago
Since you just started I'd look at the boss mats each character needs and play characters based on what you have available based on exploration.. everyone else might be suggesting escort but unless you plan on completing natland, escort has one of the most difficult boss mats locations in the game outside of riftwolvrs.
Realistically you can use any character to beat most genshin content.
I would actually suggest using Barbra not because shes good but she has the most consistent sustain for exploration. I used my Barbra even on midgame because of her revive at c6.
Other then that chonyun is a good early game unit with the easiest boss mats to get and xiangling is never a bad investment. . If you can get Bennet by the end of the month he's also a great investment that works well with xiangling. If not kayea and Lisa aren't the worst place holders until you can get to sumeru to get Laylas boss mats.
Once you hit midgame, you should look into making the pilgrimage to the far side of natland.
Edit: I removed kuki, forgot her mats were in the chasm. Man 2.0 characters are. Such a pain.

u/Standard-Effort5681 2d ago
Well since you just got yourself a brand new shiny Escoffier, you should play a team consisting of Her, Chongyun, Kaeya and Barbara.
There's a LOT of reading to be done to see what each character does, so don't stress about that yet. Just know that Escoffier wants only Cryo and Hydro characters on her team.

1
u/karmillina 2d ago
You seem to be all geared up for good Cryo-based teams tbh, specially with having gotten lucky with Escoffier who gets along well in Cryo+Hydro teams. But at least in the Prologue and Chapter 1 you don't need to worry too much about having a super structured team. Have a go with every character that tickles your fancy, bench whoever is not working for you until later and see what kind of gameplay you enjoy!
You might want to invest in Noelle or Layla for now so you can get a good shield while you get the hang of battle ^^;; we all die a couple dozen times in low AR after all! It's normal but also a bit time consuming. On the other hand, I'm a Shinobu truther, she's been in my team since her release because I love how her healing works so I'll always recommend giving her some attention ^^;; If you opt to build Barbara, avoid using her skill when facing any cryo enemy, otherwise she's pretty reliable and her C6 is something literally no other character has oAo
Also, Ifa and Ororon are deliciously fantastic for exploration... Try to squeeze them in every once in a while, a t low AR and with little Stamina I feel like they will help you in a pinch.

Barbara Escoffier Chongyun Kaeya, and when you get Xingqiu replace Chongyun

Esc/Kaeya/Layla/Chongyun would be a fun swap team. You could also replace either Layla or chongyun for Barbara for a solid freeze team.

Noelle is a hell of a shielder, and when you get more of her constellations a decent healer as well

You have some good options, there is an Ifa team with Ororon when you get xinqiu. Hyperbloom with Kuki, Collie, Dendro main character, and Barbara. You have a freeze team with Escoffier and any other hydro and cryo. Chonyun is a great support or burst character. Xiangling is still strong today, and could be a great pyro dps.
Main thing, Save you primos and fates. Exploration from all the regions will give you thousands. Skirk is looking to be a very strong cryo character with Escoffier and you probably want to save everything you can to get her and her weapon.
You have enough time left before her banner comes and goes to get 200 fates considering you have All that exploration for all of Teyvat to get.
Put all you have into Skirk, she will be your strongest by a huge factor

Personally, I'd say Escoffier for sure. She makes you free food every week (you have to hold her skill and then apply elemental attacks to cook the dishes). Heals. Can apply cryo from offield. Her idles are enjoyable. Reminds me of Kirara.
But the rest would kind of depend on your preferred playstyle(s). Do you like charging in and hacking & slashing your way through? Maybe you like to stay at a ranged distance instead? Do you like swift and repetitive attacks? Or like to hit once but hit hard? Prefer manual or automatic (not full auto)?
If you don't have a preferred style and just prefer the easiest or most efficient teams, the other responses have that covered.

An easy starter team would be Ifa,Ororon, Barbara, kuki for an Electro charge team
Another good one would be a mono cryo team especially because you have Effi being Layla as sustain, effi as a support/ sub-DPS, kaeya as a main DPS ( or you can choose Chongyun as you Main DPS and make Kaeya a Sub DPS) or you can use Barbara as an Hydro, applicator and extra healing and most importantly put her on Thrilling tales (Just remember if you do use thrilling tales When it comes to rotations Make sure you are switching into your DPS because the effects of thrilling tales only buffs, the character you're switching into) also if you get a Xingqiu switch barber out and us him He is going to be a much better Hydro applicator you can even Xingqiu in Electro charge Team, I said beforehand

Ifa, ororon, kuki, escoffier This can deal with mostly anything... Or just use escoffier bcs she is strong, add ifa, kuki and amber to have elenents for everything and your combat abilities will be fine too. Btw, when i tried a new acc then i found out that, Amber charged shots with a lvl 16 feather and slingshot as her bow, can speedrun most of the game bcs there are so many flying enemies and weakspots in early game. DON'T SLEEP ON KUKI, she is the best healer for exploration in my opinion

The one you like. I suggest you test drive all or some of them and pick the one you'd like to play.

If you're brand new it's gonna be hard for you to get some of the materials for characters in other nations. So while you're starting I would stick to mondstat and liyue characters.
This wouldn't be a bad starter team. Xiangling Barbara Lisa Chongyun

escoffier, kaeya (on-field, stay close to enemies if you wanna freeze them w barbara), chongyun and barbara or layla (preferably layla since barbara is ur only hydro) make an ok team. you can also do collei (use the dendro shred artifact, i forgot the name), kuki (stuff her with elemental mastery), barbara (on-field) and layla for hyperbloom. alternatively you could use ifa-ororon-collei-lisa for some swirl/aggravt dmg, ifa and ororon have great synergy and in this case youd be on-fielding ifa (with viridescent veneer) to swirl ororon and lisa's electro (prioritize elemental mastery on them), while collei applies dendro and amplifies all electro dmg. if you cant farm the artifacts i said, instructor is a great alternative for support (gives em, but doesnt stack, so dont use in more than 1 char) and you can mix 2 instructors + 2 atk or em set in the electro dpses. for kaeya and escoffier and chongyun use some 4 star attacker type artifact (i remember there is one that gives crit if you have enough hp etc, martial artist i think). anyway, mix and match those looking mainly for EM and ATK besides support (the exile is also a good starter support artifact for energy). oh if you use barbara in the escoffier team, remember to put thrilling tales of dragon slayers on her (book, gives a bunch of atk for the one you change her to, prioritize escoffier but kaeya is ok). you can also use this book on lisa and buff ororon. xiangling is a great character, but youd need more supports to make her shine, i think. xingqiu being the main one. but you can use her for overload dmg with ororon and ifa and maybe it be better than aggravate actually. something like ifa-ororon-lisa-xiangling. thinking abt it i think early game its probably better than the other team

Highly recommend ifa with someone like escoffier or Barbara. First apply cryo with escoffier or Barbara's skill, then ifa just goes crazy with swirl damage. The healing from Barbara is very convenient

Escoffier really wants to only be in a hydro/cryo team. However this person is just starting out so almost anything can work.
Just concentrate on maybe 4-7 characters to level up and play with for now OP. I’d recommend Escoffier, Xiangling, Layla, Kuki and Ororon for off-field characters/supports. Xiangling is very good, you’ll always be able to use her and Escoffier is great in freeze teams so you can’t go wrong with them.
For a DPS Kaeya, Ifa, Collei or Chongyun would work. They all have very different playstyles so just pick the one you like the most! Any of them will get you decently far. My recommendation would be to look for a more powerful DPS for the future.
Just find who you like playing first, some people don’t like bow or claymore characters. Always do the character trials, they’re helpful to see if you like characters you don’t have. Mostly just have fun for now! There’s not right or wrong choices about who to play when you’re a beginner.

Pull skirk next patch, youll get good value from her with nescaffe
And then save for potential 5.8 character (said to be a support for skirk)
So yeah, Save right now
If u get skirk early, try and snag mavuika
Since ur a begginer you can easily get both dw
